    O património religioso na cidade de Évora: proposta para uma metodologia de inventário

    A Religião apresentou sempre uma estreita relação com as comunidades, através do traçado e vivência das cidades. Todavia, o que mais as influenciava eram os Edifícios e Costumes Religiosos, atribuindo-se nesta investigação maior atenção à Religião Cristã e à Europa. Évora, à semelhança de centenas de outras cidades na Europa, não foi exceção na relação entre Religião e Cidade, pois, desde a sua fundação, os diferentes povos desenvolveram e pontuaram a cidade com e a partir de Edifícios Religiosos, especialmente Cristãos. Esta Dissertação visa demonstrar o impacto e marcas deixadas pela Igreja no Centro Histórico da Cidade de Évora, bem como a identificação e localização dos seus Edifícios e elementos Religiosos. Tornou-se possível quantificá-los através de um Inventário (Tipologias Arquitetónicas e Outros Elementos), levando-nos a um número revelador da forte presença da Igreja na cidade, tendo-se identificado 281 elementos religiosos (Edifícios e outros), dos quais subsistem apenas 248; - ABSTRACT: The Religious Heritage in the City of Évora: Proposal for an Inventory Methodology Religion has always presented a close relationship with the communities, through the layout and experiences of the cities. However, what most influenced them were the Religious Buildings and Customs, attributing in this research greater attention to the Christian Religion and to Europe. Évora, like hundreds of other cities in Europe, was no exception in the relationship between Religion and City, because, since its foundation, different societies have developed and punctuated the city with and from Religious Buildings, especially Christian ones. This Dissertation aims to demonstrate the impact and marks left by the Church in the Historic Center of the City of Évora, as well as the identification and location of its Buildings and Religious Elements. It became possible to quantify them through an Inventory (Architectural Typologies and Other Elements), leading us to a revealing number of the strong presence of the Church in the city, having identified 281 religious elements (Buildings and others), of which only 248 remain

    La festividad de los muertos entre dos mundos. Conectando el patrimonio cultural inmaterial global

    El propósito de este trabajo es homologar dos festividades pertenecientes al Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial (PCI) de México y Bulgaria, para lograr que el segundo obtenga a través de un proceso de gestión resultados similares al primero. Para desarrollarlo empezamos realizando una clásica investigación histórica de ambos casos de estudio por separados, luego pasamos a desarrollar el problema de investigación y la hipótesis general, lo que nos guía a la formación de una base que sirva como punto de partida para un inventariado a través de una observación estructurada y participante de la festividad búlgara inspirándonos en el caso mexicano. La metodología de investigación activa nos permitió introducirnos en el tema desde diversos puntos de vista y con amplia diversidad de fuentes. Esto nos dio la posibilidad de ver claramente en qué consisten las identidades de ambos temas y así proponer una representación del valor de la muerte en estas sociedades. - The Celebration of the Dead Between Two Worlds. Connecting Intangible Cultural Heritage Globally; Abstract:This thesis explores the cultural connections between Mexico and Bulgaria, through a comparative study of their respective celebrations related to the dead, both essential part of their Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). The primary objective is to align the Bulgarian festivity more closely with the cultural and managerial successes of the Mexican celebration, by employing strategies grounded in cultural heritage management. The research follows a two-step process: first, a historical analysis of the Mexican and Bulgarian festivities is conducted separately; second, a comparative framework is established to develop an inventory for the Bulgarian festival, inspired by theMexican model. Ultimately, the work identifies key elements that define the cultural identities of both societies and offers a representation of how death is valued and symbolized in each. By highlighting the unique yet interconnected nature of these traditions, this thesis contributes to a broader understanding of cross-cultural heritage management and the global significance of ICH

    Astro-tourism in Portugal’s rural areas

    This chapter unfolds as a case study in Portugal about The Dark Sky® Network, which includes the Dark Sky® Alqueva, the Dark Sky® Schist Villages and the Dark Sky® Valley of Tua destinations. The study focuses on these exquisite locations, which have achieved international recognition for their original tourism product: astro-tourism. The present work analyses the implementation and development of this process and present progress of astro-tourism locations, as well as highlight the relevance of working through networks. This case study methodology is based on the analysis of documents from various sources, semi-structured interviews, and participant observation. The findings disclose details of how to function within a networking system. Astro-tourism opens a door for a potential niche tourism segment with unique characteristics and capacities, aiming to develop rural destinations. This chapter advances recommendations which are relevant for the successful implementation of this niche tourism product in rural destinations

    Vivência do corpo, vinculação e sintomas somáticos dos estudantes universitários

    Objetivos: Examinar as diferenças de género na vivência do corpo, vinculação, e sintomas somáticos dos estudantes universitários, sua relação com a idade e a associação dos sintomas somáticos com a vivência do corpo e a vinculação. Método: Este estudo teve como participantes 298 estudantes universitários, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 30 anos, que preencheram questionários de autorrelato sobre problemas de sintomas somáticos, vivência do corpo (consciência interocetiva, dissociação corporal) e vinculação. Resultados: O género feminino apresentou níveis mais elevados em dimensões da consciência interocetiva e sintomas somáticos. Já o género masculino apresenta níveis superiores na vinculação insegura. Os sintomas somáticos associam-se com a maioria das dimensões da consciência interocetiva, dissociação corporal e vinculação. Conclusões: As dimensões da vivência do corpo, sendo elas a consciência interocetiva e a dissociação corporal, e a vinculação estão significativamente associadas aos sintomas somáticos em estudantes universitários. São ainda salientadas algumas perspetivas para a implementação de intervenção psicomotora na promoção da saúde mental dos estudantes universitários - Body experience, attachment and mental health of university students - Abstract: Objectives: To examine gender differences in body experience, attachment, and mental health among university students, as well as their relationship with age and the year of study in higher education courses. Additionally, to examine the relationship between body experience, attachment, and mental health in university students. Method: The participants of this study were 298 university students, aged between 18 and 30 years, who completed a self-report questionnaire on mental health (i.e., somatic symptom problems), body experience (interoceptive awareness, body dissociation), and attachment. Results: Somatic symptoms and attachment were associated with most dimensions of interoceptive awareness and body dissociation. Females showed higher levels in dimensions of interoceptive awareness and somatic symptoms, while males displayed higher levels of insecure attachment. Conclusions: The dimensions of body experience, namely interoceptive awareness and body dissociation, and attachment were significantly associated with somatic symptoms in university students. Some perspectives for the implementation of psychomotor intervention in the promotion of mental health of university students are also highlighted

    Characterization of building stones from the archaeological site of Pyrgi

    Abstract: This thesis aims to investigate the lithotypes used in the ceremonial quarter in the archaeological site of Pyrgi in pursuance of preliminary hypothesis of the source of the building materials. A multi-analytical approach which includes the study of mineralogical-petrographic and chemical composition by digital (DM) and optical (OM) microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been integrated for identification of geomaterials used. Nine samples have been classified as sedimentary rocks, while four samples have been classified as volcanic rocks. The geomaterials acquired as stone buildings in the archaeological site of Pyrgi were found to be sourced locally

    A formação do cânone da literatura angolana: uma proposta para o ensino secundário

    Em Angola, a educação tem revelado dificuldades diversas na criação do gosto pela leitura de obras literárias, bem como no seu ensino, ao longo de muitos anos. Uma realidade pouco confortável se apresenta, pois os alunos têm revelado pouca apetência para a aprendizagem da literatura. Assim, consideramos a relevância de analisar a formação do cânone da literatura angolana no Ensino Secundário. Esta tese, na sequência de uma abordagem de investigação-ação, apresenta uma análise exaustiva de programas e manuais de Língua Portuguesa e de Literatura do referido nível de ensino, no que concerne ao lugar da literatura angolana, tendo em conta os ideais e as práticas a ela associadas. Neste sentido, partimos da língua como porta para o conhecimento da literatura nacional, para, em seguida, entrar no contexto problemático da aprendizagem da literatura em Angola, com um olhar atento no processo de ensino-aprendizagem da literatura angolana, o que nos levou a enquadrar e operar conceitos teóricos relativos ao cânone literário, sem perder de vista aspetos históricos que favoreçam o entendimento do cânone da literatura nacional. Tal perspetiva levou a uma seção sobre o movimento das obras das margens ao centro e o que seria o cânone da literatura angolana. Abordámos questões relacionadas com os aspetos didáticos e modelos de ensino da literatura nacional, no qual não perdemos de vista o entrelaçamento de dois momentos que dizem respeito à coexistência de dois sistemas de educação e ensino em Angola: um que antecede a colonização, assente na tradição oral de cada grupo étnico, e outro relacionado com a educação convencional adotada a partir do sistema colonial, assente na literatura. Sobre a análise referida, buscámos aferir o número de escritores e suas obras que aparecem nos programas e manuais, de modo a apresentar uma proposta, à luz de um ensino que se pretende centrado no aluno. Concluímos que o atual modelo de ensino da literatura angolana não se tem mostrado eficaz e o lugar desta, nos normativos, programas e manuais, não tem sido garantia suficiente na formação de bons leitores no Ensino Secundário, em Angola; - Abstract: The Formation of the Canon of Angolan Literature: A Proposal for Secondary Education In Angola, education has revealed several difficulties in creating the habit of reading literary works, as well as in teaching them, over many years. An uncomfortable reality presents itself, since students have shown little interest in learning literature. Thus, we consider the relevance of analyzing the formation of the canon of Angolan literature in Secondary Education. This thesis, following an action-research approach, presents an analysis of Portuguese Language and Literature programs and manuals at that level of education, regarding the place of Angolan literature and considering the ideals and practices associated with it. So, we started with language as a gateway to the knowledge of national literature, and then enter the problematic context of learning literature in Angola, with a close look at the teaching-learning process of Angolan literature, which led us to framing and operating theoretical concepts related to the literary canon, without forgetting historical aspects that favor the understanding of the canon of national literature. This perspective led to a section on the movement of works from the margins to the center and what would be the canon of Angolan literature. We addressed issues related to the didactic aspects and teaching models of national literature, in which we considered the intertwining of two moments that concern the coexistence of two education and teaching systems in Angola: one that precedes colonization, based on the oral tradition of each ethnic group, and another related to the conventional education adopted from the colonial system, based on the literature. On the aforementioned analysis, we sought to measure the number of writers and their works that appear in programs and manuals, in order to present a proposal, in the light of a teaching that is intended to be centered on the student. We conclude that the current model of teaching Angolan literature has not been effective and its place in regulations, programs and manuals has not been a sufficient guarantee in the formation of good readers in Secondary Education in Angola

    CHANGES IN CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND DISPOSITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A BLENDED CURRICULUM IN THREE COURSES OF A VETERINARY MEDICINE PROGRAMME

    This paper reports on the implementation and evaluation of critical thinking (CT) blended curricula in three courses of a Veterinary Medicine Programme, as part of the Think4Jobs Project (https://think4jobs.uowm.gr/). The project aimed to foster CT development through discipline-specific interventions and assess their impact on students' CT skills and dispositions. During the 2022/23 academic year, three courses piloted these curricula: Imaging – diagnostic image analysis and problem-solving; Deontology – ethical dilemma analysis and professional decision-making; Andrology, Gynecology and Obstetrics – clinical case analysis and diagnostic reasoning. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted using validated tools: the Critical Thinking Self-Assessment Scale’ Short Form (CTSAS-SF) and the Student-Educator Negotiated Critical Thinking Dispositions Scale (SENCTDS). Analysis of responses (n=100) showed significant gains in all CT skills dimensions (p≤0.0001) and in overall CT dispositions (p=0.010), particularly Reflection (p=0.001), Perseverance (p=0.005), and Intrinsic Goal Motivation (p≤0.0001). However, Attentiveness, Organization, and Open-mindedness showed no significant change. No significant differences emerged between the courses, indicating that intentional pedagogical design fostering CT is more relevant than the specific course content or discipline. These findings support the integration of blended CT curricula across veterinary education and emphasize the role of constructivist learning strategies in developing both reasoning skills and reflective dispositions critical for professional practice

    Nostalgia is defined as ‘a positively balanced complex feeling, emotion or mood produced by reflection on things (objects, persons, experi- ences, ideas) associated with the past’ (Holak and Havlena, 1998, p. 218). Nostalgia is differ- ent from other ways of remembering, since it is based on positive memories that individuals have experienced directly or indirectly (Holak and Havlena, 1998). The definition of nostalgia has evolved through time, and context has been studied in diverse areas of knowledge such as marketing, consumer behaviour, psychology, sociology and leisure, and seems particularly appropriate within tourism and tourist behav- iour studies (Rodrigues, 2012)

    Solidão e bem-estar em adultos de meia-idade e idosos portugueses

    A solidão é um fenómeno que tem vindo a ser associado ao envelhecimento e à diminuição da saúde e bem-estar. Os objetivos deste estudo são caraterizar a solidão e o bem-estar em função de variáveis sociodemográficas e explorar a associação entre o bem-estar e a solidão. Utilizou-se uma metodologia quantitativa, correlacional, com desenho transversal e amostragem não probabilística. Uma amostra com 313 indivíduos (46-84 anos) preencheu instrumentos de autorrelato sobre dados sociodemográficos, solidão (não escolhida: romântica, familiar, social; positiva; tempo só) e bem-estar (emocional, social, psicológico e total). Destaca-se, entre os principais resultados, que a solidão positiva e a solidão romântica foram superiores nas mulheres, os mais velhos passaram mais tempo sós e reportaram mais bem-estar. Níveis mais elevados de solidão associaram-se a níveis mais baixos de bem-estar. Realça-se a necessidade de mais estudos sobre a relação entre a solidão e bem-estar em Portugal e algumas implicações para a prática; - Abstract: Loneliness and Well-Being in Portuguese Middle-Aged and Elderly Adults Loneliness is a phenomenon that has been associated with ageing and decline in health and well-being. The aims of this study were to characterize loneliness and well-being according to sociodemographic variables and to explore the association between well-being and loneliness. A quantitative, correlational methodology was used, with a cross-sectional design and non-probabilistic sampling. A sample of 313 individuals (aged 46-84) completed self-report instruments on sociodemographic data, loneliness (not chosen: romantic, family, social; positive; time spent alone) and well-being (emotional, social, psychological and total). The main findings include that positive loneliness and romantic loneliness were higher among women, older people spent more time alone and reported more well-being. Higher levels of loneliness were associated with lower levels of well-being. The need for more studies on the relationship between loneliness and well-being in Portugal and some implications for practice were highlighted

    Prioritising iberian wetlands for the conservation of migratory waterbirds through network analysis

    Without adequate protection, wetlands used by migratory waterbirds as stopover sites risk degradation or loss, reducing connectivity and limiting species’ ability to adapt to environmental change. To address this, we developed a workflow that uses spatial network analysis, informed by citizen science data, to assess stopover site importance. Applied to the Iberian Peninsula, this approach determined the relative importance of wetlands for the post-nuptial migration of 17 waterbird species, both at the species and group level. Our results align with existing research, while highlighting sites where current protection may be insufficient. However, the workflow’s reliability is influenced by species-dependent, temporal, and spatial parameters, which require careful consideration to ensure robust and ecologically meaningful assessments. Despite these limitations, its adaptability and replicability enable its application in other geographical regions for which data is available, making it a valuable tool for prioritising wetland protection to support migratory waterbird species conservation worldwide; - Prioritização de zonas húmidas ibéricas para a conservação de aves aquáticas migradoras através de análise de redes Resumo: Sem proteção adequada, as zonas húmidas utilizadas pelas aves aquáticas como locais de stopover durante a migração correm o risco de degradação ou perda, reduzindo a conectividade e limitando a capacidade de adaptação destas espécies a alterações ambientais. Para enfrentar este problema, desenvolvemos um procedimento que utiliza análise de redes espaciais, informada por dados de ciência cidadã, para avaliar a importância de cada um destes locais de stopover. Aplicado à Península Ibérica, este procedimento determinou a importância relativa das zonas húmidas para a migração pós-nupcial de 17 espécies de aves aquáticas, tanto a nível específico como coletivo. Os nossos resultados estão alinhados com a investigação existente, destacando ainda zonas húmidas onde a proteção atual pode ser insuficiente. No entanto, a fiabilidade do procedimento é influenciada por parâmetros dependentes da espécie, temporais e espaciais, que devem ser cuidadosamente considerados de forma a garantir resultados robustos e ecologicamente relevantes. Apesar destas limitações, a sua adaptabilidade e replicabilidade permitem a sua aplicação noutras regiões geográficas para as quais existam dados disponíveis, tornando-o uma ferramenta valiosa para definir prioridades na proteção de zonas húmidas a fim de apoiar a conservação de espécies de aves aquáticas migradoras em todo o mundo
