Purchase intention of counterfeit luxury goods: perspectives on the Portuguese market

    No full text
The aim of this study is to examine the intention to buy counterfeit luxury goods using the framework of the theory of planned behaviour in the Portuguese market. Data was collected through a questionnaire applied to 96 consumers and analysed using structural equation modelling. The findings highlight that positive attitudes towards counterfeit luxury products increase the likelihood of counterfeit consumption. On the other hand, subjective norms influence individuals’ attitudes towards buying counterfeit luxury products. Perceived behavioural control also influences the intention to buy counterfeit luxury goods. The contributions of this study have significant implications for policymakers, luxury brand managers and consumer protection agencies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

What's in it for me?: the perceived investment value of business angels

    No full text
Besides the extraordinary impact of Business Angels (BAs) as the leading contributors to fund entrepreneurship at the early stage, the value BAs perceive from their investment activity has not yet been fully explored. Based on a new holistic perspective resulting from marketing and consumer behaviour, this article builds on the concept of perceived investment value to create a new instrument that measures the overall value perceived by BAs in their investing activity. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire with 849 BAs from 79 countries. The instrument created was tested through Structural Equation Modelling. The results reveal that: (i) BAs are not purely financial investors and expect more than just money from their activity, as self-esteem, entrepreneurship, emotion and altruism are the main dimensions that explain angel perceived investment value (APIV), with economic and functional dimensions being the least influential; (ii) APIV positively influences their job satisfaction; and (iii) angels satisfied with their jobs are more likely to reinvest their money and engage in positive word-of-mouth. A multigroup comparison was implemented, validating the results for males and females, novices and veterans and light and heavy investors.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Drivers and obstacles on refugee entrepreneurship: the host country perspective

    No full text
Refugee entrepreneurship encompasses the enterprising endeavors undertaken by individuals forced to flee their home countries. This research area has gained scholarly traction due to its profound relevance in the socio-economic perspective. To provide a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon, a thorough systematic literature review was conducted, drawing upon the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The review scrutinized a corpus of 57 scholarly articles, which were analyzed and categorized into two main themes: the profile of refugees regarding their entrepreneurial intentions, and the contextual factors within the host countries that either facilitate or impede their entrepreneurial pursuits. Refugee entrepreneurship is associated with the necessity-driven perspective, as individuals often embark on entrepreneurial ventures due to the shortage of viable employment opportunities in their host countries. However, there exists a nuanced perspective wherein some refugees leverage their innate entrepreneurial traits, finding resonance between the economic landscapes of their home and host countries. Nevertheless, the inception of entrepreneurial endeavors is invariably accompanied by some obstacles, spanning legal, financial, and socio-economic domains. These obstacles do not deter the entrepreneurial spirit ingrained within many refugees. Instead, they serve as catalysts for resilience and innovation, prompting the formulation of adaptive strategies to surmount barriers and carve out pathways to success, underscoring the economic activity of displaced individuals and exemplifying their capacity to effectuate positive change amidst adversity.Refugee entrepreneurs, Social entrepreneurship, Drivers, Obstacles, Host country, Systematic Literature reviewinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Entrepreneurship and the gig economy: a bibliometric analysis

    No full text
There is an increasing number of academic publications on studying the impact of the gig economy and digital platforms. Some of them involve entrepreneurship and business models. However, there is a lack of a global picture depicting the scientific structure of knowledge regarding the gig economy and entrepreneurship. This paper presents a conceptual, intellectual, and social bibliometric overview, using Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny (R-packages). To this end, total of 345 published articles were analyzed, covering 245 sources, 44 countries and 751 authors. There are several important findings: five main clusters emerged from the study (Self-employment and social economy; Sharing economy and sustainable development; Entrepreneurship and innovation; Gig economy and platform economy; and Digitalization); the main themes that emerge deal with sharing, gig, and platform economy, digitalization, teleworking, career participation and platforms; finally, gig workers are key for developing strategies, policies, and actions to achieve a social welfare through entrepreneurship in the platform ecosystem. It is also important to highlight the role of communities and social capital in the development of sustainable collaborative initiatives through digital entrepreneurship.info:eu-repo/semantics/draf

The viability of telesurgery service in the autonomous region of the azores, supported by the 5g network

    No full text
5G network technology is considered one of the driving forces behind various societal changes. Among multiple uses, it offers Telesurgery. In situations where the patient needs specialized surgery, but there are no conditions to be transported to where the surgical intervention can be performed, Telesurgery allows access to the procedure with all the security that 5G network technology offers. The Autonomous Region of the Azores (ARA) is considered an outermost region which is an integral part of the EU (despite the thousands of kilometres that separate it from the European continent). Therefore, the EU law applies to these regions with all rights and duties associated. The Support Service to the Displaced Patient (SADD) accompanies annually and under normal conditions an average of more than 1500 patients from the Azores. They travel to the mainland for health reasons. This scenario is applied across islands, where an average of 550 patients moved annually from islands without a hospital to islands with a hospital. As a result, health costs rise in this Region. This paper will use the survey research methodology since it is the most appropriate method when we want to obtain answers/data that express opinions, customs or characteristics of a certain target audience. Therefore, a mixed mode will be used, namely interviews and questionnaires, having as scientific target areas medicine and engineering, in the specialities of gastroenterology and telecommunications, to support the research questions. This paper aims to present research on the viability of Telesurgery in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, supported by the 5G network, as an alternative for travelling patients.N/

Personalization of a learning environment supported by AI for vocational training based on skills required: a research proposal

    No full text
The learning environment is an essential part of teaching and learning. Its personalization has several advantages (e.g., guaranteeing learning quality or effective learning). In vocational education, a personalized learning environment might provide training most suitable to each professional according to individual characteristics, skills, or career path. Artificial intelligence's ability to process big data can be harnessed to personalize a learning environment. This work intends to investigate the personalization of a learning environment using artificial intel-ligence (AI) in vocational training that can provide relevant training based on the trainees' skills required. A framework will be proposed to personalize a learning environment in this scope. Its development will follow the design science re-search (DSR) methodology. During the process, the survey methodology (expert interviews and focus groups) will be conducted to validate the artifact require-ments and evaluate our future framework.N/
