    No full text
Paul Hannon was a member of AUC’s Board of Trustees from 1977 to 2005, and its Chairman from 1998 to 2004. Hannon tells of his law career in the United States and abroad, and relates how he joined AUC’s Board of Trustees in the late 1970s. He recalls Landon Thorne, Chair when he joined the Board and the state of AUC (including financially) at the time. Hannon recounts the chairmanship of Charles Hedlund, during which period the Board became active and more diverse (as in the addition of Egyptian members), and how Hedlund’s partnership with President Richard Pedersen in the 1980s shaped the university in areas like financing and the expansion of professional programs in business and engineering. The selection of President Donald McDonald and his term in office is addressed, including issues related to employment conditions for Egyptian faculty members, along with the term of Chairman Frank Vandiver in those years and the Trustees’ Century Committee that made the decision to relocate to a new campus. Hannon describes his own term as Chairman from 1998 to 2004 and the selection and contributions of Presidents with whom he worked: John Gerhart, Thomas Bartlett (Acting), and David Arnold, with a focus on efforts in planning and fundraising for the New Cairo Campus. Hannon also speaks about recruiting his eventual successor as Chair Boyd Hight
