    Anne Shalaby, an American born in 1942, moved to Egypt with her Egyptian husband in 1972 and earned a Masters Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the American University in Cairo in 1975, serving as a TEFL teaching fellow. She describes the program as well as the campus location and the response of students and others to the 1973 War. After teaching English language at AUC she moved with her husband and two daughters to Kuwait to teach English there, and her interview details their life in that country including the Iraqi invasion of 1990 and the family's relocation to Egypt later that year. Rejoining AUC, she taught in the English Language Institute in 1991, retiring in 2005. She discusses the ELI, faculty and student matters, her experience as an AUC parent, and gives an account of her participation in and the activities of the Cairo Choral Society from the 1990s
