Non-linear opticalpropertiesofcompositenaphthalocyaninethinfilms with nanocrystalline morphology
Restricted Access.Composite thin films of vanadyl naphthalocyanine and tin naphthalocyanine were prepared by the novel mixed and stacked vacuum deposition techniques. Crystalline peaks corresponding to both vanadyl naphthalocyanine and tin naphthalocyanine were detected and nanocrystals of sizes ranging from 2 to 5 nm were observed in the film structure. The stacked deposited thin film showed a broad Q band absorption in the near infrared region (700–950 nm) compared to the mixed deposited film. Open aperture Z-scan measurements revealed a saturable absorption behavior for both films and the saturation intensity, Isat, was calculated for each sample
Phase behavior of the cetyltrimethylammonium tosylate (CTAT)-water system
Restricted Access.A partial phase diagram of the cetyltrimethylammonium tosylate (CTAT)-water system has been constructed from polarizing optical microscopy and small-angle x-ray scattering studies. This system is found to exhibit a nematic phase over a wide range of CTAT concentration, from about 32 to 45 wt.%, which is very unusual for aqueous solutions of pure surfactants. At higher CTAT concentrations a hexagonal phase occurs which is stable up to at least 90 degrees C. Detailed analysis of the diffraction data confirms that the hexagonal phase consists of long cylindrical micelles arranged on a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Investigations on the electrical, thermal and optical properties of the nonlinear optical allylthiourea mercury chloride single crystal
Restricted Access.Single crystals of dimension 10 × 5 × 5 mm3 of allylthiourea mercury chloride were synthesized from aqueous solution using slow evaporation technique at ambient temperature. The grown crystals are confirmed by elemental analysis. The band gap of Allylthiourea mercury chloride crystal was found to be about 3.18 eV. The optical nonlinearity of the crystal sample was studied using the open aperture Z-scan technique employing a nanosecond laser at 532 nm, and a three-photon absorption effect has been found. The electrical properties such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss and ac conductivity of the sample were carried out by Agillent E 4980 A LCR meter at different temperatures. An improved photopyroelectric technique was used to find the thermal parameters of the crystal. The piezo electric charge coefficient is also determined
Beyond the Goldenberg-Vaidman protocol : Secure and efficient quantum communication using arbitrary, orthogonal, multi-particle quantum states
Restricted Access. An open-access version is available at arXiv.org (one of the alternative locations)It is shown that maximally efficient protocols for secure direct quantum communications can be constructed using any arbitrary orthogonal basis. This establishes that no set of quantum states (e.g. GHZ states, W states, Brown states or Cluster states) has an advantage over the others, barring the relative difficulty in physical implementation. The work provides a wide choice of states for experimental realization of direct secure quantum communication protocols. We have also shown that this protocol can be generalized to a completely orthogonal-state-based protocol of Goldenberg–Vaidman (GV) type. The security of these protocols essentially arises from duality and monogamy of entanglement. This stands in contrast to protocols that employ nonorthogonal states, like Bennett–Brassard 1984 (BB84), where the security essentially comes from noncommutativity in the observable algebra
Hysteresis and power-law statistics during temperature induced martensitic transformation
Restricted Access. An open-access version is available at arXiv.org (one of the alternative locations)We study hysteresis in temperature induced martensitic transformation using a 2D model solid exhibiting a square to rhombic structural transition. We find that upon quenching, the high temperature square phase, martensites are nucleated at sites having large non-affineness and ultimately invades the whole of the high temperature square phase. On heating the martensite, the high temperature square phase is restored. The transformation proceeds through avalanches. The amplitude and the time-duration of these avalanches exhibit power-law statistics both during heating and cooling of the system. The exponents corresponding to heating and cooling are different thereby indicating that the nucleation and dissolution of the product phase follows different transformation mechanism
RRI library and NKRC consortia
Open AccessFinancial resource is a great cause of concern in these days of shrinking budget, costescalation and
Information explosion for any given library. Consortia are a boon to librarians in the digital
Environment enhancing the power of online access to a variety of information resources.
CSIR ejournal consortium started in the year 2002. DST funded autonomous organizations joined this
Consortia in April 2009. This CSIR DST consortium was renamed as
"National Knowledge Resource Consortium(NKRC)". Since RRI is a DST funded autonomous organization,
RRI library has become a major player in this consortium activity. This poster discusses the functionality of
NKRC Consortia with respect to Raman Research Institute. A projection of relevant journal titles for the
Research at RRI is a part of this presentation
