    Landfast sea ice temperature measured during CHINARE (2005) in Prydz Bay, Antarctica

    During Chinese Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE), ice cores were extracted with a 9-cm internal diameter ice corer on landfast ice in the coastal area off Zhongshan Station (69.37°S; 76.36°E), East Antarctica. Ice temperatures were measured along two chains of thermistors deployed close to the ice core sampling sites. The two thermistor chains were about 2.5 m long and included 26 and 30 sensors respectively, with a regular spacing of 0.06 m. At deployment, the first thermistor was located right at the ice-air interface. The resulting time series describes the evolution of ice temperature over time from 5 April to 29 December 2005, and from 30 March to 20 December 2006, with sample intervals of 6 hours

    Water flowing from the Pacific Ocean into the Indian Ocean plays a vital role in regulating global thermohaline circulation. Both water basins are connected north of Australia through the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) and south of Australia through Tasman Leakage (TL). The onset of Tasman Leakage was suggested in the Late Miocene, yet its dynamics on astronomical timescales remain unknown. Here, we present new high-resolution benthic foraminiferal stable carbon and oxygen isotope data from ODP Site 752 (Broken Ridge, Indian Ocean) to trace TL since the Middle Miocene. Both related Nd isotope and stable carbon isotope can be used to distinguish the water masses/ocean circulation. These results therefore, reveal the dynamic of TL since the Middle Miocene

    Twenty years of Mean Annual Ground Temperature (MAGT) across latitudinal and elevational gradients in the Yukon Territory (NW Canada)

    This published dataset are time series of Mean Annual Ground Temperature (MAGT) close to the surface across latitudinal and elevational gradients covering a multitude of permafrost landscapes and land surface types in the Yukon Territory, NW Canada. The station network was specifically set up by Prof. A. Lewkowicz (University of Ottawa, Canada) and his colleagues and collaborators from April 2001 to assess the current thermal state of permafrost across wide climate and elevational gradients, as the operational Environment and Climate Change Canada climate stations in the Yukon area (NW Canada) are primarily located in valley bottom sites. However, much of the Yukon Territory is composed of mountainous terrain, therefore the degree of climate change and thermal state of permafrost for these vast areas is difficult to predict in part because present-day conditions are not known. The monitoring sites for air temperature and ground surface temperature were set up in logistically accessible elevations across as wide a range of elevations as possible and in a variety of positions relative to topography (ridge crests, valley bottoms, long slopes, etc.) in order to assess the impact of localized air temperature inversions. The wide range of elevations being monitored (330 m asl to 2077 m asl) as well as their geographical coverage (from 60°N to 65°N and 129°W to 141°W) covering a multitude of permafrost landscapes and land surface types make these records unique, providing an important snapshot across this complex landscape. The 111 monitoring sites (air temperature and upper ground temperature) are located in eight regions: 1. Wolf Creek and vicinity, near Whitehorse (60.54N, 135.15W): 27 sites 2. Dawson and vicinity (64.12°N, 139.68°W): 15 sites 3. Keno region (63.92°N 135.33°W): 13 sites 4. Johnson's Crossing region (60.57°N, 133.15°W): 13 sites 5. Sa Dena Hes mine site and vicinity (60.42°N, 128.59°W): 13 sites 6. Faro region (62.22°N, 133.13°W): 13 sites 7. Alaska Highway Corridor (from the Alaska border to 300 km east of Whitehorse): 12 sites 8. Dempster and Klondike Highway Corridors (from 61° to 65°N): 5 sites Until 2008 the network grew to more than 100 stations. Some stations were removed from 2009 onwards, and more taken down in 2015, while a small number of new sites were installed during this period. The COVID pandemic prevented planned downloads in 2020 so the last downloads of the 47 stations still in operation were undertaken variously in 2017, 2018 or 2019. Level 0 to Level 2 data: Field work, station installation and data read-out has been conducted by A.G. Lewkowicz (University Ottawa, Canada) and colleagues. Primary data treatment and processing up to daily temperature time series has been conducted by A.G. Lewkowicz. Level 3 data (this published dataset): Mean Annual Ground Temperature (MAGT) time series were created from the daily temperature datasets (Level 2 data, by A.G.     AMS 14C age determination for sediment core MD13-3457, Alborán Sea, Marion Dufresne Cruise MD194

    MD13-3457 is a calypso core taken from the East Melilla Mound Province, an area with multiple cold-water coral mounds. Taken from the nearby seafloor, and 20.31m long, it provides a perfect record to compare the common sedimentary system surrounding the mounds (off-mound) with cores taken from the cold-water coral mounds themselves. The age determination of core MD13-3457 is based on eight AMS 14C ages of obtained from mixed planktonic foraminifera, and the stratigraphy was extended through tie points relating stable oxygen isotope (d18O) composition data of epi-benthic foraminifera from this core to the LR04 benthic stack by Lisiecki and Raymo (2005). Raw ages are given, as well as a calibration using the IntCal20 calibration curve (Reimer et al., 2020) and modelled reservoir ages of Butzin et al. (2017) extracted with Palaeo Data View (PDV) software (Langner and Mulitza, 2019). Age error of the tie points was conservatively set to 4 kyr following discussions in Lisiecki and Raymo (2005)

    EN: This dataset comprises expert interviews conducted 2017 in the USA (Washington D.C.) and 2011 in Germany (Berlin). The study investigated the grand strategy imperatives of foreign policy experts in the U.S. from the executive branch, congress, think tanks, media, and academia in Washington, D.C. in response to President Donald Trump's nationalist challenge to the post-Second World War international order concept. It also surveys these elite's attitudes about transatlantic relations, trends in world politics, and foreign policy determinants of U.S. foreign policy. The 37 English-language expert interviews were mostly conducted in Washington, D.C. and have been archived for scientific secondary uses in research and academic teaching.     The cumulative classified count record (in percentages) over ~2 cm resolution of each petrologically identified IRD lithologies within the stratigraphic units of Heinrich Layers and Interlayers (about ~10 to 20 samples of 10 cm3) represent the >1 mm IRD particles in ~100 to 200 cm3 of sediments. The data are expressed in percentage to facilitate correlation and also avoiding exaggeration of less signification IRD particle abundances.
