Raw physical properties measured on sediment core PS128_41-1
Sound knowledge about the petrophysical characteristics of a sediment core is a prerequisite for any subsequent paleoenvironmental study relying on sediment proxies. Physical properties of whole-round sediment cores are acquired as a first step of sediment core description, prior to slicing of sediment cores into two halves. Here, we present raw physical-properties data of core PS128_41-1 acquired with a Geotek MSCL-S system on the unsplit core, retrieved during RV Polarstern expedition PS128 "EASI-1" from Nielsen Basin, Antarctica, in austral summer 2022

Cores were processed according to the standard protocol given by the manufacturer Geotek Ltd
ARK 2004 : AWI airborne Radio-Echo Sounding Data over Nothern and Central Greenland between North GRIP, NEEM, GRIP, and GISP2 ice core sites and Southwest Greenland (NorthGRIP project), Version 2
This dataset contains airborne radar data acquired using the AWI EMR system (Nixdorf et al., 1999) during the Arctic season of 2004. The profiles extend across the Northeast Greenland Ice Sheet betweenNorth GRIP, NEEM, GRIP, and GISP2 ice core sites and Southwest Greenland. The data are available as netCDF files (including waveforms and metadata), KML files of the profile line locations, and quicklook images of the radargrams
Authigenic 10Be/9Be ratio on surface sediments in the Arctic Ocean
This dataset contains geochemical measurements from surface sediments collected across the Arctic Ocean, including the Kara Sea, Laptev Sea, and Eurasian Basin. It includes concentrations of authigenic 10-Beryllium (10Be) and 9Be derived from Fe-Mn oxide leachates, 10Be/9Be ratios, with associated uncertainties (in %). The samples used were retrieved during several cruises, mainly from Box corers and MUC. Sample storage does not affect the quality of our measurement. Before beryllium measurement, the sediment was freeze-dried and ground. The beryllium extraction and purification was made following Loftfield et al., (2024) method. The dataset spans environments from continental shelves to the deep basin, providing a framework to assess the spatial variability of beryllium cycling across the Arctic Ocean. This dataset supports the interpretation of modern processes controlling the 10Be/9Be proxy in marine sediments and its potential use in paleoceanographic reconstructions
Whale sightings during POLARSTERN cruise PS146
Data on whale distribution and abundance in the polar oceans is rather sparse, as implementing the standard surveying method, line-transect surveys, is challenging and costly. To overcome this problem, we initiated a program to electronically log all opportunistic cetacean sightings during all Polarstern expeditions through the nautical officer on watch. Opportunistic (visual) sightings by naked eye were logged during Polarstern Cruise PS146 (Walvis Bay – Stanley, Falkland Island (Malvinas)) by the nautical officer on duty using a customized Software package (WALOG, WhAleLOGger) installed on a touch screen laptop located on the ship's bridge. Species were identified by naked eye or handheld binoculars (7x50) to the lowest possible taxonomical level and assigned a "certainty" level of identification. The number of animals were counted if possible or estimated for larger groups. Whenever identification to species level was not possible, the next identifiable taxonomical category was assigned. Information on sighting position, date and time are automatically transferred from the ship's DAVIS-Ship System (https://dship.awi.de/) to the WALOG software at the time of logging. Photographs were taken, if possible, for retrospective analysis. All data of acquired sightings were retrospectively validated by a marine biologist and converted to a standard format. To this end, plausibility of sighting time, location, standardization of species names, eventual comments added at the time of sighting, as well as additional information such as photographs (if available) were checked either to verify or improve species identification. Datasets are used in species distribution modelling and to inform interested parties about occurrences
Weathering indicators from biotic and organic amendments in rock powder column experiments
The dataset comprises measurements of weathering indicators in relation to the addition of microorganisms, enzymes, earthworms, and organic matter to different rock powders. Data was collected within the BAM! project (Bio-Accelerated Mineral Weathering), which investigates the potential of soil biota and organic inputs to accelerate mineral weathering processes for carbon sequestration. Experimental data were obtained from 4 rounds of column experiments conducted between March 2022 and March 2023 at Wageningen University & Research. Treatments included combinations with and without biotic and organic amendments, allowing for comparative assessment of their influence on mineral weathering. The dataset contains measurements of key weathering indicators, including dissolved organic carbon, dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, pH, electrical conductivity, major cations and anions, as well as selected trace elements
Master track of HEINCKE cruise HE666 in 1 sec resolution (zipped, 107 MB)
Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV Heincke during expedition HE666 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During HE666 the inertial navigation system IXSEA PHINS III and the GPS receivers Trimble Marine SPS461 and SAAB R5 SUPREME NAV were used as navigation sensors. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (https://dship.awi.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track
Chlorophyll a and phaeophytin a measurements from discrete water samples during RV HEINCKE cruise HE662
This dataset was collected during the cruise HE662 (24.05.2025 to 13.06.2025) with RV HEINCKE from Bremerhaven, Germany to Bremerhaven, Germany. It contains chlorophyll a measurements [µg/l] from water samples collected from discrete sampling via CTD. In total, 27 samples have been collected. To obtain chl-a concentrations water samples were filtered onboard through 0.7 µm pore size, glass fiber filters (Whatman GF/F) under low vacuum. Filters were frozen immediately at -80 °C until extraction in laboratory by 90% acetone method (measured on 07.08.2025). Concentrations were calculated from fluorescence measured with a pre-calibrated Turner Design TD 7200-02 laboratory fluorometer (EPA445.0, Turner Manual). Calibration details are given in the attached calibration document (PDF)
