    Core PS97/085-3 of the Drake Passage was taken via piston corer during Polarstern cruise ANT-XXXI/3. We obtained high resolution records of authigenic 10Be/9Be ratios in order to study the different impacts on 10Be deposition in marine sediments compared to ice cores. As changes in the atmospheric production of cosmogenic 10Be leave a global fingerprint in 10Be deposition fluxes this represents a powerful tool for the synchronization of climate archives. During the Laschamps geomagnetic field low (~ 41 ka BP) the global production rate of 10Be is expected to double. We therefore chose the depth interval covering this period (3.80 m – 7.60 m). For Be measurements 1.5 – 2.0 g of freeze dried samples of the core were leached (Gutjahr et al., 2007), purified (Loftfield et al., 2024), and measured via ICP-OES (9Be) and AMS (10Be; Lachner et al., 2023 and Rugel et al., 2016)

    Underway temperature and salinity data was collected along the cruise track with a SBE21 thermosalinograph (TSG) together with a SBE38 Thermometer. Both systems worked throughout the cruise. While temperature is taken at the water inlet in about 4 m depth, salinity is calculated within the interior TSG from conductivity and interior temperature. No temperature validation was performed. Salinity was validated with independent water samples taken at the water inlet. For details to all processing steps see Data Processing Report

    Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV Elisabeth Mann Borgese during expedition EMB346 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During EMB346 data from the motion reference unit exail Phins Gen.3, the Trimble SPS356 GPS receiver, the Furuno GP-170 and the Furuno GP-150 GPS receiver were used to calculate the mastertrack. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (https://dship.bsh.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processing and evaluation of the data is outlined in the data processing report. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track

    This dataset contains the validated master track of the S/Y Eugen Seibold during expedition ES22C18, with a time resolution of about 10 seconds. This master track can be used as reference for further expedition data. For creating the master track, the 1-second resolution raw data acquired by the GPS position sensor on board S/Y Eugen Seibold were processed, averaging latitude and longitude within equidistant 10-second intervals. Quality control was performed visually and by checking the maximum speed calculated between neighbouring positions. In case of unrealistically high speeds, data points have been removed

    Continuous optical chlorophyll-a and turbidity data along RV SONNE cruise SO313/1

    Underway optical chlorophyll-a and turbidity data were collected along the cruise track with Sea-Bird Scientific ECO FLNTU sensors installed within two autonomous measurement systems, called self-cleaning monitoring boxes (SMBs). The SMBs measure alternatingly. While one box is measuring, the other one is being cleaned. The boxes switched generally every 12 hours. The water inlet for the SMBs is at about 4 m below sea surface. Observed chlorophyll-a and turbidity data were both quality controlled. Analysis of the chlorophyll-a and turbidity data during parallel operation of the sensors in the two boxes showed significant differences between the sensors. The sensors were aligned resulting in fairly consistent chlorophyll-a and turbidity time series. A comparison for the corrected chlorophyll-a with satellite data using the GlobColour CHL1 product is provided. Correlation with CHL1 is high, however, the CHL1 data are systematically higher where SMB chlorophyll-a is low. Details on all quality control steps and the comparison with satellite data can be found in the data processing report. Note that the instruments are factory-calibrated, however, no post-calibration was performed due to missing reference data. Absolute values should be challenged. Additionally, the data set user should keep in mind that some parts of the time series might be affected by non-photochemical quenching, see data processing report. It was out of the scope of the quality control to flag or correct non-photochemical quenching. The resulting data set contains the original data and corresponding quality flags achieved by the quality control algorithm as well as the corrected chlorophyll-a and turbidity data with corresponding quality flags. The data source is given through the name of the active SMB. The data set contains data during transit time and station work. We recommend to use ship's speed to filter for only transit data

    Seawater carbonate chemistry and fertilization success in an Arctic population of sea urchins

    This study investigates the combined effects of these stressors on the fertilization success of the green sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis) from Kongsfjorden, Svalbard. We exposed gametes to various levels of pH, temperature, and salinity to assess their individual and combined impacts on fertilization performance. This dataset is included in the OA-ICC data compilation maintained in the framework of the IAEA Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre (see https://oa-icc.ipsl.fr). Original data were downloaded from Norwegian Polar Data Centre (see Source) by the OA-ICC data curator. In order to allow full comparability with other ocean acidification data sets, the R package seacarb (Gattuso et al, 2024) was used to compute a complete and consistent set of carbonate system variables, as described by Nisumaa et al. (2010). In this dataset the original values were archived in addition with the recalculated parameters (see related PI). The date of carbonate chemistry calculation by seacarb is 2026-01-23

    The objective of expedition PS133 performed from October to December 2022 was to understand the sources and pathways of input and transport of Fe and other nutrients into South Georgia Island shelf waters and further downstream in the Southern Antarctic Circumpolar Current (10°W to 42°W). The aim of the sub-project Island Impact - Understanding the regional impact of islands (South Georgia) on Southern Ocean biogeochemistry and ecosystem function was to determine the nutrients phosphate, nitrate, silicate, nitrite and ammonia in water samples from the entire water column in order to obtain nutrient sections through the POLARSTERN PS133.1 cruise. Water samples were taken by a ship-based Seabird SBE911plus CTD-Rosette system onboard RV POLARSTERN. Samples were measured in duplicate with a SEAL AA500 autoanalyzer system using SEAL methods based on Grasshoff et al., 1983, with the exception of ammonia based on a fluorometric determination developed by Kerouel, R. and Aminot, A. (1997). In Continuous flow systems a peristaltic pump delivers samples and reagents into a long heated glass tube, which acts as the reaction vessel. Air bubbles are regularly introduced into the flow to minimize dispersion and maintain a steady state. The specific product formed during the reaction with the species to be determined is normally detected with spectrophotometers at a specific wavelength. Samples were measured and validated against Certified Reference Material (CRM) 7602a and 7603a provided by JAMSTEC (Japan)
