Global snowmelt onset dataset from spaceborne radiometer observations
A 40-year integrated global snowmelt onset dataset (1979–2018) is produced by combining the estimates over sea ice, ice sheets and the terrestrial snow from spaceborne microwave radiometers. The globally integrated snowmelt onset (MO) dataset with a spatial of 25 km brings new insights into the climate dynamics in the cryosphere and the associated atmospheric controls
Rock-Eval data of IODP Hole 370-C0023A
Rock-Eval pyrolysis was conducted on ground bulk sediment samples (100 mg/sample) to determine (1) the amount of hydrocarbons (HC) already present in the sample (S1 peak in mg hydrocarbons per gram sediment), (2) the amount of hydrocarbons generated by pyrolytic degradation of the kerogen during heating up to 550°C (S2 peak in mg hydrocarbon per gram sediment), (3) the amount of carbon dioxide generated during heating up to 390 °C (S3 peak in mg carbon dioxide per gram sediment), and (4) the temperature of maximum pyrolysis yield (Tmax value in °C). Total organic carbon (TOC) values of the analyzed sediments were known from shipboard measurements (Heuer et al., 2017). The hydrogen index (HI) corresponds to the quantity of pyrolyzable hydrocarbons per gram OC (mgHC/gTOC), the oxygen index (OI) corresponds to the quantity of carbon dioxide per gram OC (mgCO2/gTOC). Tmax values < 435 °C are indicative for immature organic matter. In combination with HI values, Tmax values may give further information about the composition of the organic matter. The Rock-Eaval data are discussed in Kars et al. (2021/in review)
Effects of drought on generation 1 Lupinus bicolor (Fabaceae)
Data are for Lupinus bicolor grown in a dry-down drought experiment at UC Santa Barbara. Plants were grown in dry-down and well-watered conditions in order to study potential maternal effects. Data collected include seed production, vegetative and lifespan traits. The seeds were collected by hand between 2016-12-01 and 2017-02-28 near UC Santa Barbara Greenhouses. The greenhouse had climate controlled conditions with an average temperature of 21.1°C – 22.2°C. To estimate above ground volume, the plant height and the largest possible perpendicular cross-widths of the plant was measured and then multiplied the height x width x length
Vegetation cover during experimental drought and restoration in a coastal prairie in Santa Cruz, CA, USA in 2021
The average cover values of all plant species within experimental treatment plots of restored, unrestored, droughted and ambient rainfall plots from 2021. Data was taken using a modified Braun-Blanquet visual survey in six 0.25 m² quadrats to account for variation within a plot and eventually used to calculate the relative cover within a plot, therefore the total cover of each plot may exceed 100%
Thatch depth during experimental drought and restoration in a coastal prairie in Santa Cruz, CA, USA in 2021
Thatch depth, i.e. the height of litter from the soil surface was determined along with plant cover data in six subplots (0.25 m² quadrats) during a drought and restoration experiment in 2021
Vegetation cover during experimental drought and restoration in a coastal prairie in Santa Cruz, CA, USA in 2019
The average cover values of all plant species within experimental treatment plots of restored, unrestored, droughted and ambient rainfall plots from 2021. Data was taken using a modified Braun-Blanquet visual survey in six 0.25 m² quadrats to account for variation within a plot and eventually used to calculate the relative cover within a plot, therefore the total cover of each plot may exceed 100%. Thatch thickness refers to the height of litter from the soil surface
