Master track of ELISABETH MANN BORGESE cruise EMB339 in 1 sec resolution (zipped, 33 MB)
Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV Elisabeth Mann Borgese during expedition EMB339 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During EMB339 data from the motion reference unit exail Phins Gen.3, the Trimble SPS356 GPS receiver, the Furuno GP-170 and the Furuno GP-150 GPS receiver were used to calculate the mastertrack. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (https://dship.bsh.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processing and evaluation of the data is outlined in the data processing report. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track

Continuous salinity observations within DynaCom experimental islands and saltmarsh enclosed plots at different elevation levels, Spiekeroog, Germany, 2019-03 to 2023-09
Data presented here were collected between March 2019 to September 2023 within the research unit DynaCom (Spatial community ecology in highly dynamic landscapes: From island biogeography to metaecosystems, https://uol.de/dynacom/ ) involving the Universities of Oldenburg, Göttingen, and Münster, the iDiv Leipzig and the Nationalpark Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer. Experimental islands and saltmarsh enclosed plots were established in the back-barrier tidal flat and in the saltmarsh zone of the island of Spiekeroog (Germany). Salinity at different elevation zones was measured using conductivity loggers deployed in dip wells within experimental islands as well as in the saltmarsh enclosed plots. Measurements were obtained using HOBO U24 Conductivity Logger U24-002-C (Onset Computer Corporation, Bourne, MA/USA). All devices were pre-calibrated by the manufacturer. Logged data were retrieved in the field using a Hobo Underwater Shuttle (U-DTW-1) and were read out with the HOBOware Pro (V3.7.28) software. Salinity was derived in HOBOware Pro using temperature-dependent, nonlinear seawater conductivity compensation following the Practical Salinity Scale (PSS-78). Subsequent data processing was done using MATLAB (R2024b). Post-processing and quality control included (a) the removal of data covering maintenance activities, (b) the removal of implausible values using fixe thresholds (salinity > 40 psu and 35 °C and < -5 °C), c) an outlier detection using the Hampel filter method, and (d) visual checks. Identified outliers were removed and synchronously removed across all associated parameters (temperature and salinity)
Multibeam bathymetry raw data (Kongsberg EM712 entire dataset) of RV MARIA S. MERIAN during cruise MSM137
Raw multibeam bathymetry data were collected aboard RV MARIA S. MERIAN during cruise MSM137 using a Kongsberg EM 712 multibeam echosounder. The expedition took place during 2025-05-10 – 2025-06-13 from Reykjavik (Iceland) to Reykjavik (Iceland) in the North Atlantic. The aim of M137 was to apply enhanced geophysical methods in order to image and identify sills on a detailed scale. Magmatic intrusions are widespread all over the globe. Recently, the impact of sills and dikes onto sedimentary basins is discussed intensly, e.g. for contact-metamorphism and venting of methane. Even global climate anomalies were recently linked to regional sill emplacements and associated outbursts of methane into the atmosphere. Data were recorded within the Norwegian EEZ including Svalbard. Sound velocity profiles (SVP) were applied on the data for calibration. Please see environmental data and the cruise report for details. The data are unprocessed and can therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts) if not further processed. Note that refraction errors may occur when no proper SVP is applied. Data acquisition was done by BGR and CAU, provision of the data is supported by the DAM Project Underway Research Data and published according to the FAIR principles
Chemical analysis for explosive compounds in water, sediment, and flatfish Limanda limanda (dab) collected from shipwrecks in the North Sea to assess the biological effects of old World War munitions
This dataset documents field investigations on release of legacy World War I munition explosive compounds into the surrounding marine environment, with a focus on shipwreck sites in the North Sea. Three historically well-documented wrecks were selected: the light cruisers SMS Mainz and SMS Ariadne, and the minelayer submarine UC30. These wrecks were chosen based on detailed archival information regarding their sinking circumstances and cargo, their unambiguous identification, and their accessibility for scientific diving operations. As a munition-free control, a reference area outside known wreck fields was sampled (Naturschutzgebiet Borkum Riffgrund). The flatfish Limanda limanda (dab) was selected as a sentinel species. Sampling was conducted during several cruises with the research vessel Heincke (HE 573, April 2021 – SMS Mainz; HE 596, April 2022 – UC30 and SMS Ariadne; HE 607, September 2022 – UC30; HE 613, February 2023 – SMS Ariadne) and with the Uthörn (May 2022 – reference site). Water was sampled with a CTD rosette water sampler at different depths and processed on board by solid phase extraction at 4 °C. Sediment was sampled with a Van Veen grab sampler and frozen at -20 °C. Fish were caught using bottom trawls deployed as close as possible to the wreck structures. Captured fish were transferred to seawater tanks prior to dissection. Each specimen was measured, weighed, and assessed biometrically to calculate condition factors as indicators of general health. Tissue samples were immediately frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -20 °C. Samples were processed in the lab according to established protocols. All samples were analyzed by gas chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) for the explosive TNT and its metabolites 2- and 4-ADNT
ARK 2016: AWI airborne ultra-wideband radar data in Central-west and South-west Greenland (UWB Testflights)
This dataset contains airborne radar data acquired using the AWIs multi-channel ultra-wideband radar system (AWI UWB) during the Arctic season of 2016. The profiles extend across the Central-west and South-west Greenland Ice Sheet over e.g., Store Glacier and Jakobshavn Isbræ and were part of the first test season of the AWI UWB radar system. The data are available as netCDF files (including waveforms and metadata), KML files of the profile line locations, and quicklook images of the radargrams
