Soil- moisture and temperature from the PhytOakmeter plot DKr (Kreinitz, Germany) from 2024
As part of PhytOakmeter (www.phytoakmeter.de), time-domain transmission, soil moisture and -temperature sensors with custom-made logger systems were used to measure time series of soil state variables. The aim of these investigations was to provide data on environmental properties used in a cross-disciplinary approach.
The measurement device consisted of two sensors at three different depths. The dataset contains the values of time (UTC), relative permittivity, soil moisture (in % vol) derived from permittivity and soil temperature (in °C). Determination of soil moisture was done using the formula of Topp et al. (1980). As sensors, the SMT100 soil moisture sensors with integrated temperature measurement were used. All sensors were installed within the upper 50cm below ground. The exact depths for each sensor are listed in the dataset and parameter comment
Micro rain radar (MRR) raw data measured at Neumayer Station (2023-06), links to files
The meteorological observatory Neumayer continuously operates a vertically looking single column 24 GHz meteorological Doppler radar (METEK MRR-PRO) to monitor hydrometeors. The instrument essentially records radar reflectivity and Doppler velocity in 128 vertical range gates. The vertical resolution is set to 50m, hence the maximal altitude is 6400m; the temporal resolution is typically 1 second. The instrument was initially installed in January 2019 and is mounted on the roof of the Neumayer Station III. Since the station altitude changes slightly over time the instrument height above sea level can change over time too. This is documented in the netCDF variable "range:meters_to_center_of_first_gate", initially 65m. Since installation an interfering signal which could not be readily identified and removed disturbs the measurements in range gates 7 to 10, i.e. 370m to 520m. The disturbance can easily be identified and filtered for analysis of the data. This dataset contains the full raw data from the instrument. All data published here is left "as recorded", no quality control was applied. Still, some concatenation and temporal re-sorting was sporadically applied to homogenise the temporal file granularity. Any such operations are documented in the netCDF global attribute "history" of the respective files

Electromagnetic induction measurements with the vertically oriented dipole of the CMD Mini Explorer (118 cm transmitter-receiver spacing) taken in June 2024 in the Lower Havel Inner Delta near Lake Gülpe, Brandenburg (Germany)
Electromagnetic induction (EMI) was measured with a CMD-Mini Explorer (GF Instruments s.r.o., Brno, Czech Republic) in June 2024. We used the vertical dipole (VDP) at coil spacings of 0.32 m (VDP1), 0.71 m (VDP2) and 1.18 m (VDP3), archieving effective penetration depths of 0.5 m (VDP1), 1.0 m (VDP2) and 1.8 m (VDP3). According to the manufacturer, 70% of the signal originate from above these depths. The EMI sensors measure the apparent electrical conductivity (ECa, in mS/m). Measurements were taken by carrying the instrument about 0.2 m above ground while being directly connected to D-GPS (Leica GPS1200) for positioning. The acquisition rate was five measurements per second. Data quality was checked by measuring a reference line before and after each measurement.
The area investigated by EMI in June 2024 is located southeast of the research station. The survey area there is 8.1 ha in size. The reference line for the measurements there was located in the north-westernmost area of the site. No drift correction had to be applied due to good data quality. Reference lines and single outliers were removed.
The data set contains the EMI data with an intercoil spacing of 1.18 m
2D-ERT data measured in June 2023 and June 2024 in the Lower Havel Inner Delta near Lake Gülpe, Brandenburg (Germany)
The Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) data were acquired by using a PC controlled DC resistivity meter system (RESECS, Geoserve, Kiel, Germany). In total, we measured four ERT transects. Two transects in June 2023, where transect 1 had a total length of 259 m with an electrode spacing of 0.5 m and transect 2 had a total length of 223 m with an electrode spacing of 1 m. The measurements in 2023 were carried out under extreme dry conditions.
Two further transects were measured in June 2024 with an electrode spacing of 1m, transect 3 with a total length of 207 m and transect 4 with a total length of 239 m. We applied wenner alpha and dipol-dipol configuration. The coordinates and the height of the electrodes were measured with a D-GPS (2023: TOPCON HiPer II / 2024: Leica GPS1200)
Sediment analyses (pH, electrical conductivity, mag. susceptibility, loss on ignition, remission) from the Araplı catchment in the Pergamon Micro-Region, western Turkey
The dataset was collected from seven sediment cores along a transect spanning the Araplı alluvial fan, east of ancient Pergamon, in the eastern lower Bakırçay plain, Pergamon micro-region, Türkiye. The cores were taken, described, sampled, and analyzed in the field and at the Bergama excavation house in October 2023. The soil description was conducted after Schoeneberger et al. (2002). Sediment samples were taken at irregular intervals and orientated along layer boundaries; samples include 3 cm of sediment in fine earth and 5 cm in gravelly material. Reported sample depths are simplified and given by their mean depth. Samples (n = 293) were analyzed for pH value, electrical conductivity, gravel content (sieve separate 2 mm), remission (sediment color using a spectrophotometer), loss on ignition (LOI, at 550 °C and 900 °C) after Dean (1974), and mass-specific magnetic susceptibility (calculated according to Dearing, 1994)
