Diatom valve counts from Young Sound fjord, North-East Greenland

    No full text
Datasets collected from Young Sound fjord, Northeast Greenland, between 2013 and 2018 were analysed for amounts of diatoms. An automated PPS4/3 sediment trap with an aperture of 0.05 m² was installed near the fjord entrance (74.322°N; 20.269°W) at 60-m water depth, 15 m above the seafloor as part of the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) programme. The rotation for the trap was set to 7 to 91 -day intervals. Diatoms were counted and identified using a Zeiss Axio Imager.A2 upright research microscope with a Plan-Apochromat 100×/1.4 oil immersion objective, phase contrast optics and a total magnification of ×1000. A minimum of 300 valves, excluding Chaetoceros spp. resting spores, which were counted in addition, were identified. For samples with very low diatom abundances, ten transects were counted from each slide

The rotation for the trap was set to 7 to 91 -day intervals. Dinoflagellate cysts were counted and identified using a Zeiss Axio Imager.A2 upright research microscope with 60x oil immersion objective and a total magnification of ×600. Due to very low dinoflagellate cyst concentrations, dinocyst counts correspond to a sum reached after encountering a minimum of 300 Lycopodium clavatum spores. Because of the high abundances of organic material, some samples had to be diluted heavily before mounting in microscope slides, and hence there was a limited number of Lycopodium clavatum spores in each slide. In these cases, dinocysts were counted until reaching a sum of 100 Lycopodium clavatum spores

Physical oceanography during ALKOR cruise AL415

    No full text
Conductivity-temperature-depth profiles were measured using a CTD during RV ALKOR cruise AL415. The CTD was equipped with duplicate sensors for temperature, conductivity and oxygen. All sensors are calibrated irregularly. Data were connected to the station book of the specific cruise as available in the DSHIP database

Mixed layer depth reconstructions based on dinocyst assemblage data of sediment core MD99-2227

    No full text
Winter mixed layer depth (MLD) was reconstructed from the dinocyst assemblage data of sediment core MD99-2227 using two different approaches: modern analogue technique (MAT) and weighted averaging partial least square (WAPLS) regression and calibration. The n = 1968 modern dinocyst database and the modern MLD climatology of 1981-2010 from the World Ocean Atlas 2018 were used as calibration dataset

Tajik-Uzbek Surface Data Base for modern pollen samples and vegetation plots: calibrations for functional diversity, climate and vegetation reconstructions in the past

    No full text
In order to improve understanding of past vegetation, functional diversity and climate change reconstruction in the past, we provide here the first dataset of combined pollen surface samples and vegetation plots from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, known as the Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Surface Data Base (TUSDB). The database contains surface data (pollen surface sample, associated vegetation plots), environmental database extractions for each site (mainly climate, vegetation description and plant functional traits), results from modelled variables relevant for paleoclimate and palaeoenvironmental studies (Davis Indices, pollen R-values, pollen-based plant vegetation traits and biome-scores) and an application of these methods to an available Holocene pollen sequence from the Aral Sea (climate, biome and functional diversity reconstructions). This database may enhance our understanding of past climate and vegetation changes in Arid Central Asia (ACA)

Neodymium isotope compositions, rare earth element concentrations and ancillary geochemical data for sediment cores, pore water and bottom seawater from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans

    No full text
The neodymium (Nd) isotope signature (εNd) has been widely used as a proxy to reconstruct past ocean circulation. Recently it has been increasingly questioned which archives can be reliably used to extract authigenic εNd applied for the reconstruction of past ocean circulation and under which environmental conditions bottom seawater εNd signals are altered and the original water mass signature is overprinted. This dataset publication series contains Nd isotope compositions of pore water, bottom seawater, authigenic and detrital sedimentary phases from the abyssal Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, focusing on the behavior of the Nd isotope composition in oxic deep-sea sediments during early diagenesis. Additionally, it contains dissolved rare earth element and Mn concentrations, dissolved oxygen, TOC, porosity, bulk solid-phase Al, Ca, Fe, and Mn data as well as radiocarbon data as ancillary geochemical data to assist interpretation of the Nd isotope data
