Line scan images of IODP Hole 386-M0081B
Collection of line scan images from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 386 (Japan Trench Paleoseismology). The offshore phase of this expedition took place between 2021-04-13 and 2021-06-01 onboard Japanese R/V Kaimei from and to Yokosuka, Japan. Images were obtained during the onshore phase of the expedition, which took place between 2022-02-14 – 2022-03-15 onboard D/V Chikyu. After longitudinal splitting high-resolution (100 pixels/cm) images of each core sections archive half was captured using the Tri-Sensor Core Logger (TSCL; NS Design). The camera provides a 16-bit red-green-blue color (48-bit) TIFF file, which were converted to JPG files for publication purposes. The RGB data derived from each image for each section are published under titles "Color data (RGB) of IODP Hole 386-M0081B".

Core close-up images of IODP Hole 386-M0081D
Collection of split cores' close-up images from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 386 (Japan Trench Paleoseismology). Close-up photos were taken utilizing a standard photo camera by sedimentologists during visual core description. Decision on imaged intervals was subject to the core describers in charge. The standard IODP convention for labelling follows the syntax expedition number – hole – core plus core type ("H" [for hydraulic piston corer] indicates GPC cores, and "P" [for push corer] indicates trigger corer cores, see core summaries for further information) – section, top of interval in section [in cm] – bottom of interval in section [in cm], for instance "386-M0081A-1P-1,10-30" identifies a photo taken from the interval 10-30 cm within section 1 of core 1P from hole M0081A of expedition 386.

Visual core description of IODP Hole 386-M0082B
Collection of visual core description (VCD) sheets (hand drawn originals and digital representations) and lithologic composite plots from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 386 (Japan Trench Paleoseismology). VCD was performed on unsampled archive halves of split cores, directly after linescan imaging, during the onshore phase of expedition 386, which took place between 2022-02-14 – 2022-03-15 onboard D/V Chikyu. The lithology of each core section is represented on the hand drawn VCDs by graphic patterns next to the X-ray CT image of the archive-half core section. Further, a wide variety of features that characterize the sediment are indicated in additional columns. The information from the hand-drawn VCD sheets was then transferred into the Drilling Information System database (s. also datasets "Description of lithologic section units of IODP Hole 386-M0082B"), from where it could be accessed semi-automated to produce digital lithologic columns and composite plots using Strater (Golden Software).
