    Musikbox: Der Klang des Flusses, live im Club Voltaire, Teil 1

    In unserer heutigen Musikbox bringen wir den ersten Teil der Performance „Der Klang des Flusses“ von Dizzy Krisch und Bernhard Hurm. Die Aufführung fand am 11. April 2025 im Club Voltaire in der Haaggasse statt. „Der Klang des Flusses“ ist eine Performance, die von dem Vibraphonisten und Komponisten Dizzy Krisch und vom Hölderlin-Kenner Bernhard Hurm erarbeitet wurde. Beim Landesjazzfestival in Tübingen hatten sie damit 2024 ihre Premiare. Die Live-Collage besteht aus musikalischen Klängen und Gedichten. Sie beschreibt einige Etappen aus dem Leben von Friedrich Hölderlin, einem der bekanntesten deutschsprachigen Dichter. Als Jazzmusiker ist Vibraphonist Dizzy Krisch seit Jahrzehnten weit über Baden-Württemberg hinaus bekannt. Bernhard Hurm, Mitbegründer des Regionaltheaters Lindenhof in Melchingen, arbeitet schon lange mit Hölderlin-Texten und ist begnadeter Rezitator dessen Gedichte

    Die [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 Radioligandentherapie (RLT) stellt eine etablierte Therapieoption für Patienten mit PSMA-positivem metastasiertem, kastrationsresistentem Prostatakarzinom (mCRPC) dar. Trotz prätherapeutisch ausreichender PSMA-Expression sprechen nicht alle Patienten auf die Therapie an. Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, den Einfluss der posttherapeutischen Tracerkinetik auf das Therapieansprechen sowie auf das progressionsfreie Überleben (PFS) und Gesamtüberleben (OS) zu untersuchen. Retrospektiv wurden posttherapeutische Dual-time-Point-SPECT/CT-Daten (24 h und 48 h) von Patienten mit mCRPC nach [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 RLT analysiert. Anhand der Tracerreduktion in Metastasen wurden Unterschiede zwischen Ansprechern und Nicht-Ansprechern sowie Zusammenhänge mit PFS und OS evaluiert. Patienten ohne Therapieansprechen zeigten eine schnellere Tracerelimination aus Lymphknoten- und Knochenmetastasen. Eine ineffektive Tracerkinetik war mit einem verkürzten progressionsfreien und Gesamtüberleben assoziiert. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass die posttherapeutische Tracerkinetik als potenzieller prädiktiver Marker für das Therapieansprechen dienen kann und zur Individualisierung der RLT beitragen könnte

    Essays on the Regulation of Digital Financial Reporting

    This thesis examines key aspects of the regulation of digital financial reporting. By investigating how EU regulatory initiatives shape the digitalization and dissemination of financial reporting, the thesis addresses two overreaching research questions: (1) Are the regulations implemented by the EU for digital financial reporting suitable for effectively achieving their intended consequences? And (2) does the regulatory setting in digital financial reporting in the EU impact firms’ individual costs and benefits, affecting the cost-benefit trade-off of early ESEF adoption? The first study (Section 2) investigates the timeliness of centralized electronic dissemination of financial reports in the EU, a key component of EU single market integration. Timeliness is a regulatory objective and has economic significance because it affects information processing costs. This topic is particularly salient as ESAP, once operational in mid-2027, will rely on national repositories, so-called Officially Appointed Mechanisms (OAMs), as its primary data source (ESAP, Art. 5). Consequently, differences in the setup and processes of OAMs may generate heterogeneity, potentially limiting ESAP’s ability to achieve its intended goal of timely dissemination. The second and third studies (Section 3 and 4) investigate the (expected) economic effects of ESEF. The ESEF mandate aims to enhance the usability of financial statements by enabling automated data extraction and analysis (ESEF, Rec. 4). It remains an open question whether, and to what extent, the change to the ESEF reporting format impacts capital market liquidity and firms’ information environments. Moreover, the Covid pandemic resulted in a one-year postponement of mandatory ESEF adoption in 23 of 27 member states (European Parliament, 2021). This regulatory modification created a setting to compare early adopting and late adopting countries and to analyze firm-, industry-, and country-level characteristics associated with early adoption of firms and its associated cost-benefit tradeoffs. Taken together, the three studies shed light on how digital financial reporting regulations influence the dissemination, accessibility, and processing of financial information in the EU. The next section provides a broader overview of digital financial reporting and the regulatory environment in which these studies are embedded

    Computational Approaches to Immunopeptidomics

    Life science has a wide range of available technologies for gathering and analysing qualitative and quantitative insights into biological systems. These can enable the development of new clinical applications with novel combined approaches, for example to personalised cancer immunotherapy. Among these technologies, mass spectrometry is a complex but versatile analysis method for proteomics and beyond. It is also a prolific source of experimental data in these fields. Improved instrumentation, technological advances, and high-throughput experiments result in a substantial growth in data volume calling for automation in analysis and quality control. Combination with other technologies is essential for advances in clinical applications, like the development of personalised cancer immunotherapies, inherently multidisciplinary. Here we describe how integration of data generation and analysis tools can have synergistic effects, unlock novel analysis designs, and overall create a more comprehensive picture of the underlying biology. First, we describe the development of standard file formats for proteomics and their role in data integration. Many experimental proteomics techniques share core aspects that are reflected in their data and the analysis steps necessary for successful interpretation. The formats cover mass spectrometry-based proteomics identification and quantification data (mzIdentML, mzTab), limited support for small molecules (mzQuantML, mzTab), and QC data from both acquisition and analysis (qcML). In the second part of this work, we describe the integration of analysis tool frameworks (OpenMS, FRED2) and their accompanying analysis tools in workflow orchestration solutions (KNIME). Compatible tools (with standard format in- and output) allow us to create complete data analysis workflows with data from multiple domains (here genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and HLA peptidomics) and explore the benefits of automated analysis with a closer look at the utility of add-on workflows for quality control in parallel to a main analysis. The final part of the thesis concludes this work with the application of a combined workflow in the research and development of personalised immunotherapies against cancer. We show how our workflow is comparably sensitive in detecting neoepitopes applied to a melanoma dataset with previously published detected neoepitopes. We also explore how cancer type can influence the prospect of detecting actionable immunotherapy targets with the example dataset from hepatocellular carcinoma patients

    Monodisperse Heteroatom-Doped Carbon Nanostructured Composites: Preparation, Characterization, and Applications in Electrocatalysis and Energy Storage

    Heteroatom- or compound-incorporated monodisperse carbon nanocomposites (MCNs) hold great promise for applications in catalysis and energy storage. However, their development remains hindered by several challenges, including the lack of efficient and scalable synthesis routes, limited morphological control after heteroatom or component incorporation, and poor spatial regulation of dopant distribution within carbon matrix. To address these limitations, this thesis presents new synthetic strategies for preparing heteroatom-/component-incorporated MCNs with well-controlled morphology, microstructure, and compositional uniformity. Four distinct classes of Ni-, Sn-, SnS-, and SnOx- (x = 1, 2) incorporated carbon nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via newly developed approaches. Their electrochemical performances were systematically evaluated, revealing that Ni-doped MCNs exhibit excellent activity toward electrochemical CO₂ reduction (eCO₂RR), while Sn- and SnS-embedded MCNs serve as effective anodes for lithium-/sodium-ion batteries. These findings provide valuable insights into the rational design of multifunctional MCNs and applications in energy conversion and storage.Die Dissertation ist gesperrt bis zum 30. November 2026

    A Tale of Two Rivers: The Niger and Mississippi Deltas from Enslavement to Petroviolence

    This dissertation explores the entanglement between the Niger and the Mississippi delta regions of Nigeria and America from the savagery of enslavement to the environmental ruins of petrocapitalism. It challenges the extant conception of these temporalities and spaces as sequestered entities in scholarship and social imagination. Scholars have venerated crude oil as a replacement of the labour of enslaved Africans in America (some of whom were deported from the Niger Delta) and a compliment to abolitionism. This dissertation demonstrates how the oil industry across these spaces took off and functions under the matrix of enslavement. Moreover, the Niger Delta has remained a viable extraction frontier for the some of the crude refined across the Cancer Alley of Louisiana comparable to the defunct deportation of its people into the plantations of the Mississippi Delta. This study contributes to the evolving environmentalism of the Black Atlantic world, participates in the effort to embolden our inclusivity in the global web, and promotes an interdisciplinary nexus between postcolonialism and American Studies. Following the scholarly interventions of Haraway, Nuttall, and Tsing on entanglement and interspecies relation, the first chapter fleshes out the entanglement between Niger and the Mississippi rivers as historical infrastructures of this nexus reinforced by the Atlantic Ocean. It also examines the efforts of the political establishments of Nigeria and America to corporeally remodel the Niger river to the Mississippi river in the twentieth century for comparable economic benefits across the Atlantic. In the second chapter, I prop up this non- human nexus with the exploration of the deportation project of enslavement from the Bight of Biafra in the Niger Delta into the plantations of the Mississippi from the eighteenth century. Furthermore, the chapter lays bare the imbrication of the temporalities of enslavement, colonialism, and petrocapitalism. Time in this context is not accounted for in its linearity because while enslavement from the fifteenth century served as a preface to colonialism in the Niger Delta, settler colonialism in the Mississippi Delta became the preface to enslavement. In the third Chapter, I explore the surviving cultural heritage between these regions emblazoned upon the corpus of delta blues of which scholars, such as Gioia, agree the roots are African and the natural environment that gave them birth. I engage a close-reading of Ojaide’s Delta Blues & Home Songs (1998) and Langston Hughes’ The Weary Blues (1926, 2020) to unearth the transatlantic leaning of the blues tradition to the environment. Building upon Thakur’s concept of “necroecology” as a territory of death and destruction, the fourth chapter critiques the contemporary ecosystems of these regions as industrial sites of the destruction of Black bodies. Through a close-reading of Ifowodo’s The Oil Lamp (2005) and Smith’s Blood Dazzler (2008), I unveil how the necropolitics and biopolitics of the political hegemonies industrialized the destruction of these genealogically connected people in the Odi massacre and the devastation of hurricane Katrina. The final chapter visually examines the quotidian outlook of these landscapes heavily transformed from agricultural landscapes into global frontiers of the oil industry. Evoking Sontag’s On Photography (1977, 2002), I critique the photodocumentaries of George Osodi and Richard Misrach: Delta Nigeria: The Rape of Paradise (2011) and Petrochemical America (2014) respectively. Through these materials, I foreground the visible scars of enslavement across these spaces that the oil industry re-violates through environmental pollution.     Non-decameric NLRP3 follows an MTOC-independent inflammasome activation pathway

November 2026 !NLRP3 is a pivotal molecular initiator of the innate immune response, playing a significant role in the pathogenesis of various non-genetic neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, as well as genetic autoinflammatory disorders like cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome (CAPS). Despite its critical involvement in these conditions, the precise cell biological mechanisms governing NLRP3 activation remain incompletely understood. Recent advancements in cellular and structural biology have elucidated that the inactive form of NLRP3 assembles into an oligomeric 'cage' structure, specifically a decamer in humans, which exhibits a high affinity for negatively charged membranes like those of the trans-Golgi network (TGN). Under basal conditions, NLRP3 exists in a dynamic equilibrium between its monomeric form in the cytosol and the decameric cage associated with the TGN. Upon activation by various stimuli, the TGN reorganizes into endosomal-like vesicles that transport the NLRP3 cage toward the microtubule organizing center (MTOC) via the microtubule network, where it forms a functional inflammasome. However, whether non-decameric forms of NLRP3 can also achieve full activation remains unclear. In this thesis, we systematically investigate the activation mechanisms of decameric versus non-decameric NLRP3 in monocytic THP-1 cells by engineering a deletion mutant (NLRP3 Δexon3) that cannot form decamers, resulting in predominantly monomeric and dimeric species. Using biochemical assays, confocal and live-cell microscopy, and inflammasome activity measurements, we demonstrate that smaller NLRP3 assemblies can form functional inflammasomes without reliance on the TGN or MTOC, defining an MTOC-independent pathway. Importantly, this pathway remains unaffected by microtubule disruption with the FDA-approved drug colchicine, highlighting its independence from the traditional microtubule-mediated transport system. Furthermore, the MTOC-independent pathway exhibits different kinetics compared to its MTOC-dependent counterpart and selectively responds to potassium-dependent stimuli while not responding to the potassium-independent stimuli imiquimod. Collectively, our findings reveal two parallel and biologically distinct NLRP3 activation pathways, enhancing the understanding of inflammasome regulation
