Trovärdighet i spelvärldar
Creating high immersion in game worlds is something that many developers aim to achieve for the players using their products, allowing players to lose themselves in a world and accept it as real. In today’s gaming industry, there are characters in several games that cannot be directly controlled by the player. Some of these characters can communicate verbally, while others must rely on conveying their mental state through actions and visual expressions. It is these entities, which communicate nonverbally, that are to be examined in this study to determine how their interactions with each other, the player, and the surrounding world affect player immersion. The research strategy used was mixed methods, using both qualitative and quantitative data, to obtain the most comprehensive picture of the area as possible. The data collection was conducted by the two authors of the study over 12 gaming sessions, featuring three games of different genres. A one-way ANOVA and thematic analysis were used to analyze the collected data in order to identify patterns in the predefined categories related to immersion. From the thematic analysis, three main themes emerged: Sense of a living world, Believable behavior, and Feeling of awareness. The theme Sense of a living world showed that immersion can be negatively affected when the player is the main focus, but can be positively influenced when organic situations occur without directly involving the player. The second theme, Believable behavior, showed that how behavioral changes based on context are handled can either positively or negatively affect immersion. The third and final theme, Feeling of awareness, showed that immersion can be either positively or negatively impacted depending on what information the player perceives these entities have access to, based on the context. The conclusion drawn from the results is that the various interactions of non-playable entities in the game world can contribute to both positive and negative effects on immersion. Illogical behaviors can easily break immersion, indicating that immersion can be a fragile experience for players. However, when interactions occur in an organic manner, immersion is enhanced, positively affecting the overall gaming experience
School absenteeism and mental health complaints among adolescents in foster family care : A repeated cross-sectional study using the Stockholm School Survey
Introduction: Mental health complaints are increasing worldwide with adolescents in foster family care being a vulnerable group. This study examined the association between foster family care and self-reported mental health complaints among adolescents and explored whether self-reported school absenteeism moderates this association. The study also investigated whether these patterns differed between gender. Methods: This study used cross-sectional data from the Stockholm School Survey collected between 2004-2022, including an analytical sample of more than 53,000 Swedish adolescents in ninth grade. Mental health complaints were measured by 12 items covering symptoms such as depression, poor appetite, and low self-worth, which combined into an index. To analyse associations between foster family care, school absenteeism, and mental health complaints, both bivariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted. All analyses were stratified by gender. Results: Adolescents in foster family care reported more mental health complaints compared to their peers. Among these, girls in foster family care reported the highest levels of mental health complaints. Adolescents with school absenteeism reported higher levels of mental health complaints than those without absenteeism. The interaction analysis between foster family care and school absenteeism was not statistically significant, indicating that both factors independently contributed to poorer mental health. Conclusion: These findings suggest a need for targeted interventions to address mental health complaints among adolescents in foster family care in Sweden, especially among girls, who reported the highest levels of complaints. Interventions addressing school absenteeism should also be considered, as absenteeism was independently associated with mental health complaints among Swedish adolescents
Att stärka motivation och framtidstro : Studie-och yrkesvägledarens roll i grundskolansnärvarofrämjande arbete
School absenteeism is a complex issue that can lead to negative consequences for students' future opportunities. This study aims to explore how career and guidance counselors describe their preventive efforts to strengthen students' attendance and motivation, as well as how they perceive collaboration with other school staff. Previous research has primarily focused on the efforts of principals, teachers, and student health services in promoting attendance. The study employs qualitative methods and includes professional career and guidance counselors working in primary schools. The results indicate that key strategies used by the profession include inspiring thoughts about the future, creating a sense of meaning in schoolwork, and strengthening relationships with students. The most central intervention is individual counseling, but the work also involves outreach activities, study visits, internships, and collaboration with guardians.Career and guidance counselors, with their future-oriented perspective, can play a crucial role in schools' attendance-promoting efforts. However, time constraints and varying organizational conditions are seen as challenges. In schools where the profession is included in the student health team and attendance-promotion efforts are more structured, counselors experience greater success. Increased understanding and a stronger role for career and guidance counselors could contribute to improved student motivation and attendance. Intersecting Japanese Women’s Literature and Queer Literature: A twofold narratological approach to Ekuni Kaori’s Kira Kira Hikaru
In a Japanese literary context, the evolution of what can be referred to as “queer literature” has been in close relation with the already established genre of women’s literature. This study discusses the development of the two in connection to each other by positing Ekuni Kaori’s 1991 Kira Kira Hikaru at their intersection, while also taking a narratological approach to marginal identity construction. Employing Rimmon-Kenan’s (2002) emphasis on structural reading as a tool for textual understanding, Levine’s (2015) New-Formalist linking of literary form to concrete political potential and Lanser’s (2015) concept of “intersectional narratology”, this thesis demonstrates how a methodology leaning on narrative components can better investigate queerness on a textual level. It argues that the narrative exemplifies the potential of queer literature for women’s literature and vice-versa, as it reveals both patterns of collaboration and resistance, along with potential points of contention between the two. The actions of the characters that ensure their survival in a society geared to exclude them illustrate the possibility for alternative family models which challenge the norm by simply existing outside of it, revealing the intricate systemic ramifications that oppress both marginalised groups and how each character handles having to navigate an inequitable world.
Tracing Old Paths in Rewilded Forests: Sámi Involvement in Restoration : A Case Study of Rewilding Sweden
Rewilding has emerged as a popular conservation approach aimed at restoring ecosystems and enhancing ecological resilience. Like traditional conservation, rewilding draws on colonial notions of "wilderness," raising postcolonial questions, yet it may also enable indigenous communities to reclaim ancestral lands. This study addresses the question: to what extent can ecological restoration serve as an empowerment tool for Sámi communities? It aims to evaluate the role and recognition of Sámi Indigenous communities in forest restoration through a case study of forest restoration projects led by Rewilding Sweden in the Vindelälven–Juhttátahkka Biosphere Reserve in northern Sweden, inhabited and used by Sámi reindeer herding communities. Combining site observations with in-depth interviews with Sámi herders involved in the restoration process, the research examines the extent to which Sámi perspectives are heard, valued, and integrated. The findings suggest that Sámi respondents view the collaboration with Rewilding Sweden positively, particularly regarding involvement, mutual respect, and shared ecological goals. However, the initiative’s top-down structure and broader constraints, specifically the retroactive nature of restorations and the primacy of land ownership rights, limit its potential as a fully empowering tool. This study contributes to ongoing debates on the postcolonial dimensions of rewilding and the possibilities for indigenous-led restoration
Decentralizing Civic Engagement: Social Capital and Decentralized Civic Autonomy in the Digital Generation
While digital technologies have created new possibilities for civic participation, 25 years of e-participation initiatives have often reinforced top-down governance, limiting genuine youth engagement and weakening public trust. In Sweden, although efforts have been made to digitize civic processes, Young Adults (aged 18–29) continue to feel excluded from decision-making and disconnected from political institutions. This study investigates how decentralized digital infrastructures—specifically Autonomous Decentralized Networks (ADNs)—can foster civic autonomy and strengthen social capital among Young Adults. Drawing on Coleman’s (1988) Social Capital Theory (SCT) and Actor-Network Theory (ANT), the research explores the socio-technical dynamics of civic engagement in an increasingly digital democratic context. Based on this perspective, the authors construct a three-layered framework model titled Decentralized Civic Autonomy (DCA) to integrate (1) Social Capital Theory (SCT) with (2) the key elements of ADNs and (3) Actor-Network Theory (ANT). The proposition of the DCA model is grounded in findings derived from data triangulation where a thematic analysis of six semi-structured interviews and a content analysis of four municipal articles concerning democratic engagement strategies was conducted. The study identifies seven key thematic areas necessary for building social capital in decentralized civic environments: Social networks, Social trust, Social norms, Democratic engagement, Local participation, Digital participation, and Collaborations. Findings highlight the need for digital civic platforms to incorporate features such as transparent governance structures, peer-to-peer consensus mechanisms, privacy and security safeguards, engagement incentives, and inclusive interfaces tailored to Young Adults’ digital behaviors. Despite the potential of such systems, both supply-side (municipal institutions) and demand-side (young citizens) actors remain largely unaware of the existence and capabilities of decentralized models. The study concludes that a shift from institutionalized to decentralized civic engagement—anchored in digital autonomy, trust-building, and recognition—is essential for enabling meaningful civic participation among Young Adults. The proposed DCA framework model offers both theoretical and practical guidance for designing digital platforms that reflect the values, expectations, and social realities of Young Adults in Sweden
Nationell folkhögskola eller stridsformation? : Sveriges Nationella Ungdomsförbund i massans tidsålder 1915–1926
This paper studies the transformation of Sveriges Nationella Ungdomsförbund (SNU) from a small social club of bourgeois youth into an effective propaganda organisation for the Swedish right. Previous research has focused on SNU:s later years (1928-1934), when it was undergoing a process of right-wing radicalisation that resulted in a break with the mainstream Swedish right. I have instead focused on SNU:s early years when it struggled to find an identity among internal power struggles and failing finances. By utilising a reflexive thematic ideology analysis, I created three themes (class, crowd psychology and gender) through which I have analysed SNU:s activity during the period. The paper is broken down into three parts, the first focusing on SNU:s creation and early internal power struggles (1915-1919) in which a faction that wanted to nurture the youth prevailed over a faction that wanted to engage the youth in political activism. In the second period, the national school (1919-1923) the goal was to nurture the male youth into becoming the right-wing politicians of the future. However, because SNU believed the field of politics was corrupted by the masses (crowds) practical political activity was avoided. To create politicians of good moral character SNU engaged their membership in traditional Swedish and Christian activities and aimed to educate them through book circles and lectures. During the period of the fighting formation (1924-1926) SNU focused on political activism. They believed that through direct engagement with politics the membership would learn the necessary skills required for a successful political career. By 1926 they were openly canvassing for the Swedish right, engaging directly with the electorate and utilising propaganda tactics that before had been associated with the left. However, because they were convinced that the social democrats lied to the masses adopting the tactics of the enemy also meant wilfully spreading misinformation. Therefore, SNU started to spread a conspiracy theory that the social democrats were in cahoots with the Soviet Union to bring a socialist dictatorship to Sweden. This electoral model would later be fine-tuned for the general election of 1928 in which SNU spread this conspiracy theory on a greater scale
The Role of the Dwelling upon Hospital Discharge : A Qualitative Study of Care Managers’ Understanding of Older Adults’ Ordinary Housing
Investigation of the Kraken method in the vicinity of Cooper minima and resonances
Quantum State Tomography (QST) has emerged as a pivotal tool for understanding photoionisation processes, allowing the reconstruction of density matrices to reveal properties previously inaccessible to traditional spectroscopy. This work employs the KRAKEN protocol to study the Cooper minimum in Argon and the giant resonance in Xenon, and how these features affect the system density matrices and purity. In order to simulate this generated photoelectron wavefunctions, Dirac's Radial equations are solved with a B-spline basis; using Random Phase Approximation with Exchange corrections to account for correlated effects. Results show distortions in the density matrices, and changes in purity due to ionisation bandwidths variations and different Fano profiles between ionisation channels. These results demonstrate the KRAKEN protocol's precision for quantum state reconstruction and validate the critical role of RPAE corrections to accurately describe photoelectron states within a fully quantum mechanical framework
Caring for the Margins - Gendered Responses to Climate Challenges : A Case Study from Medellín’s Hillside Settlements
This thesis explores how lideresas, women leaders, in marginalised neighbourhoods of Medellín, Colombia, respond to environmental and social challenges, contributing to climate justice. It asks: How do these women navigate everyday risks, what strategies and knowledge do they employ, and what lessons can be drawn for broader climate justice frameworks in Latin America? Grounded in theories of care and relational autonomy, the study analyses how leadership emerges through interdependence, situated knowledge, and everyday practices of care. Fieldwork was conducted in Medellín’s hillside areas, Comuna 3 and Comuna 8, using qualitative interviews, workshops, and field visits. The findings show that lideresas take on informal leadership roles, acting as social workers, engineers, and educators, without formal recognition. Their strategies include community-based environmental education, place-based pedagogies, and collective responses to climate risks. These actions reflect ‘resilience from below’ and challenge dominant, individualistic approaches in planning and climate adaptation. The thesis contributes to debates in feminist urbanism, climate justice, and Global South research by showing how care and relational autonomy can be used both as analytical tools and political strategies. It calls for more inclusive, gender-sensitive policies that recognise and support the transformative potential of grassroots, care-based leadership
