    September 8, 2006Ralph Peter Gray was born as Otto Felix Goldstein on Sep. 11, 1926 in Vienna, Austria. After Kristallnacht in 1938, his family wanted to go to Canada, but they couldn’t get the necessary papers. Instead, his parents sent Ralph Gray to London, England with the help of Kindertransport. He stayed there with a Jewish family for one year until he left for Cuba, where he reunited with his parents. In December 1940 Ralph Gray and his family finally moved to New York. He went to high school and then was drafted into the army in 1944; he was stationed on the Philippines. When he returned to New York in 1946, he enrolled at Columbia University, and after several setbacks he finally became a psychotherapist.Austrian Heritage Collectio

    February 8, 2006Lucy Swann, née Nelken was born in Vienna, Austria, on Jan. 24, 1916. 1934-1938 she studied at the University of Vienna, before being forced to flee. She spent eight weeks in Italy, moving on to southern France in early 1939. She settled in Avignon, but was imprisoned in the Camp de Gurs for several months in 1940.
