She was a member of the Zionist youth movement 'Blau-Weiss' and consequently emigrated to Palestine in 1939, where she lived in a kibbutz and witnessed the foundation of the State of Israel. No full textAugust 17, 2008Stephen Frishauf was born Stefan Frischauf on Aug. 17, 1920 in Vienna, Austria. His Jewish born mother had converted to Protestantism before the wedding with his father. Frishauf grew up in Vienna’s 14th District (Penzing) and graduated from high school at Realgymnasium Albertgasse in 1938. He was fluent in English, due to his participation in two student exchange programs. In 1938 he was granted an exit visa to visit his supposedly sick aunt in Paris, and he never returned to Austria. In January 1939 Frishauf immigrated to the US, after his American relatives had organized an affidavit for him. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois, working in a department store to finance his studies. During WW II Frishauf served in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He returned in 1946 and acquired a law degree, launching a successful career as a patent attorney. Frishauf is married to Else Pappenheim, Doctor for neurology, psychology and psychoanalysis. No full textDec. 15, 2008Pedro Schwed was born in Vienna and able to emigrate to Argentina with his family because of his brother's father who had emigrated to Argentina in the early 1930's. There, his father could establish a men's clothing store. He and his sister who went to the Pestalozzi school were then raised and educated in Buenos Aires. Pedro Schwed studied chemistry and was working for a company who sent him abroad several times. He then moved with his wife and their four children to the United States, where he settled in New York City.Austrian Heritage Collectio
