A Study in Practical Theology on the Composition of Application for the Expository Sermon in a sample of Reformed Presbyterian Preachers in Northern Ireland
Composing sermon application is a problem for many expository preachers. Some consider it the most challenging element of their sermon preparation process. Consequently, application is often a weak element in their sermons. This qualitative study addresses that homiletic problem by exploring the significance of the expository approach, defined particularly by Doriani and Capill, for composing application in the expository sermon. A sample of nine Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland preachers participated in semi-structured interviews. Four themes emerged from the data collected: importance of application, significance of the defined expository method, difficulty of composing application, and inadequacy of the defined expository method. The findings showed that, while the participants considered sermon application important and the defined expository method was significant in their experience, the process of composing application remained difficult for them. The findings also showed that other elements beyond the defined method were significant in their experience. Those elements were identified as: the Holy Spirit, pastoral visitation, corporate worship, congregant input, and godly character. These beyond method elements are then reflected on theologically using church tradition and Christian Scriptures
Deep Learning based Wireless Channel Prediction: 5G Scenario
In the area of wireless communication, channel estimation is a challenging problem due to the need for real-time implementation as well as system dependence on the estimation accuracy. This work presents a Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) based deep learning (DL) approach for the prediction of channel response in real-time and real-world non-stationary channels. The model uses the pre-defined history of channel impulse response (CIR) data along with two other features viz. transmitter-receiver update distance and root-mean-square delay spread values which are also changing in time with the channel impulse response. The objective is to obtain an approximate estimate of CIRs using prediction through the DL model as compared to conventional methods. For training the model, a sample dataset is generated through the open-source channel simulation software NYUSIM which realizes samples of CIRs for measurement-based channel models based on various multipath channel parameters. From the model test results, it is found that the proposed DL approach provides a viable lightweight solution for channel prediction in wireless communication
Deep Learning based Human Detection in Privacy-Preserved Surveillance Videos

Proceedings of the 35th British HCI and Doctoral Consortium 2022, UKVisual surveillance systems have been improving rapidly over the recent past, becoming more capable and pervasive with incorporation of artificial intelligence. At the same time such surveillance systems are exposing the public to new privacy and security threats. There have been an increasing number of reports of blatant abuse of surveillance technologies. To counteract this, data privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR in Europe) have provided guidelines for data collection and data processing. However, there is still a need for a private and secure method of model training for advanced machine learning and deep learning algorithms. To this end, in this paper we propose a privacy-preserved method for visual surveillance. We first develop a dataset of privacy preserved videos. The data in these videos is masked using Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and selective encryption. We then train high-performance object detection models on the generated dataset. The proposed method utilizes state-of-art object detection deep learning models (viz. YOLOv4 and YOLOv5) to perform human/object detection in masked videos. The results are encouraging, and are pointers to the viability of the use of modern day deep learning models for object detection in privacy-preserved videos
Ageing, Sexual Orientation and Mental Health: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Older People
Introduction Discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and intersex (LGBTi)i people can often mean they are denied the basic human right to live the life they are born to lead (Kimmel et al. 2006). Traditionally, LGBTi people have often had to live in secret, hidden from the dominant heterosexual society, and many older people are still worried about disclosing their sexual identity (Kimmel et al. 2006). In this chapter I will explore some of the many issues facing older LGBTi people. The chapter starts with a brief overview of the history of the LGBTi communities and how they have been treated as ‘invisible citizens’ through mechanisms of the law and the medicalisation of the ‘homosexual’ (Jennings 2007). Then I examine some of the fears and concerns held by members of LGBTi communities when accessing services, and this is discussed in relation to issues of sexuality, mental health and ageing. It is my hope that in reading this chapter you will gain a deeper understanding of the issues raised and then think of areas of application for your own development as a non-discriminatory practitioner, as well as identifying needs for further service developmen

Binary self-dual and LCD codes from generator matrices constructed from two group ring elements by a heuristic search scheme
This article is not available on ChesterRepWe present a generator matrix of the form [ \sigma(v_1) \ | \ \sigma(v_2)] where v_1 \in RG and v_2\in RH for finite groups G and H of order n for constructing self-dual codes and linear complementary dual codes over the finite Frobenius ring R. In general, many of the constructions to produce self-dual codes forces the code to be an ideal in a group ring which implies that the code has a rich automorphism group. Unlike the traditional cases, codes constructed from the generator matrix presented here are not ideals in a group ring, which enables us to find self-dual and linear complementary dual codes that are not found using more traditional techniques. In addition to that, by using this construction, we improve 10 of the previously known lower bounds on the largest minimum weights of binary linear complementary dual codes for some lengths and dimensions. We also obtain 82 new binary linear complementary dual codes 50 of which are either optimal or near optimal of lengths 41 \leq n \leq 61 which are new to the literature
Scoping review: contribution of intellectual disability nurses

The objective of this scoping literature review was to summarise evidence on the contribution of intellectual disability (ID) nurses to improving the health and well-being of children, adults and older people with IDs, now and for the future.
Review question
The scoping literature reviews seeks to answer the following question;
What ID nursing-led interventions are in place to respond to the changing needs of people living with IDs, and what is the impact of these interventions
Conclusions
The limited number of publications identifying the interventions undertaken by ID nurses in relation to maternity, children, older adults and end of life care need to be addressed by the profession.
The lack of evidence to demonstrate the impact and effectiveness of interventions undertaken by ID nurses pose a challenge for intellectual disability nurses and the profession, whose wider contribution is ambiguous in wider health and social care practice. The interventions undertaken by ID nurses need to be understood in the context of the complexity and changing needs of people with IDs, as well as the introduction of the new NMC standards for pre-registration nurse education in the UK.
Recommendations
Given the complexity of health, poorer health, higher rates of co-morbidity, inequalities in health, poor access to health services and higher rates of premature mortality experienced by people with IDs, we recommend that urgent research is undertaken to further clarify ID nurse interventions, more specifically in relation to maternity, children, older adult, and end of life care
The Plotlands: Improvised Housing in Coastal Britain

Originally built during the interwar period and those which have since been adapted and modified. Situated on coastal strips and in river valleys, few estates from that period still remain. The archive is a celebration of resourcefulness, creativity and character, recording the many unique materials used and vernacular design largely unseen within urban housing developments. The archive has been developed by Tim over a thirty-year period, recording many buildings no longer standing and some which have been since renovated beyond recognition.
The database provides searchable access to houses by construction materials used, type of building and even colour. Locations include Humberston Fitties, The Brooklands Estate at Jaywick Sands, The Bel Air Estate at Seawick, Leysdown on Sea, Almere Ferry on the River Dee and Eccles-on-Sea, Norfolk
‘It’s about portraying that we are organised …’ A case study looking at understanding identity changes within one Free school’s Physical Education and School Sport (PESS) programme.
This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Educational Review on 20/05/2021, available online: https://doi.org/10.1080/00131911.2021.1917522This research looked at changes made towards PESS at one of the first Free schools in England. Opened by parents as a new institution within an unfamiliar setting, the school had to contend with limited resources for an ambitious programme based upon a full complement of examination courses and an emphasis on prestigious team sports. A single case study methodology revealed that subsequent changes in identity stemmed from staffing changes, alongside a shift in personal philosophies towards a more inclusive ideology. Research participants agreed that ‘too much’ had been attempted ‘too soon.’ Using Goffman’s concept of ‘impression management’, changes are explained by the analysis of a team ‘performance’ communication to parents, identified by interviewees as key policy actors in the life of the school. This approach has been successful in justifying change, a finding that will help to understand the extent to which parental expectations are managed at Free schools
