External world vs. working memory in children exp1
No full textStudies show that when given the opportunity, adults generally minimize the use of working memory and instead rely on external sources of information that are accessible visually (Ballard et al., 1995; Draschkow et al., 2021). However, as the cost of accessing external sources increases, adults rely more on working memory. This experiment investigates if 5- to 8- year-olds can monitor the cost of accessing the external world and adjust their reliance on external sources accordingly. We hypothesize that children will rely more on the external source when the cost of access is minimal, and only increase reliance on internal memory when the access cost is high

Across the included studies, a narrative synthesis of the evidence will be conducted to highlight the gaps in the literature both in terms of the different mathematical abilities investigated in this population and in terms of the quality of these studies (e.g., were standardised or research-made tests used? What was the experimental design?)

No full textThe objective of this manuscript is to fill a gap in the adolescent vaping literature by examining peer-related risk and protective factors for three different types of vaping (flavor-only, nicotine, and cannabis). Analyses will simultaneously estimate the frequency of use for three types of vaping in the past year at mean age 17. First, cross-sectional associations between age 17 vaping behaviors and concurrent peer-related risk and protective factors will be assessed, including vaping by school peers, vaping by friends, and resistance to peer influence. Second, we will examine the predictive relationship between different types of vaping behaviors and peer-related risk and protective factors measured approximately 1-2 years prior including: vaping by school peers, vaping by friends, and resistance to peer influence. Further, we will examine whether resistance to peer influence moderates the relationship between own vaping and both vaping by school peers and vaping by friends
