Exploring Parental Status Discrimination in Remote Work Contexts

    No full text
In this study, we examine the remote work context to determine if biases towards women and mothers extend outside of the office and into the home. Specifically, we examine the relationship between gender, perceptions of parental status, and supervisor evaluations of commitment and performance using experimental vignettes

Who Needs More Help? Infants’ Evaluations of Costly Helping

    No full text
Some tasks require more effort to complete than others (e.g., climbing a very steep hill vs. climbing a less steep hill). Are infants’ social evaluations of helping sensitive to effort and whether someone is in more need of help? In the present experiment, we will investigate whether infants prefer an agent who helps others do something that is harder over an agent who helps others do something that is easier. Additionally, we will examine whether this preference can be explained by a preference for agents who choose to do harder things themselves, rather than a preference for agents who help others with a harder task. The influence of tDCS on perceived bouncing/streaming

    No full text
We examine in this experiment if the bouncing/streaming illusion can be systematically influenced by stimulating the right posterior parietal cortex (PPC) with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)

    Moral decision-making under stress

    No full text
Zhang et al. (2018) applied CNI model to study how chronic stress influences moral decision-making. Li et al. (2019) also applied CNI model to study how acute stress influences moral decision-making. However, the CNI model has deficits that would overestimate the agent's norm sensitivity and make the I parameter uncredible. Instead, Liu and Liao (2020) provided a CAN algorithm and overcome the limitations of CNI model. We used CAN algorithm to reanalyse the data of the above two studies and aim to correct the conclusions

Does joint attention in an online environment create social closeness, and does group size matter?

    No full text
Previous research has shown that jointly attending to something creates social closeness between interaction partners. However, the development of novel communication technologies has moved some of our social interactions online. The question therefore is whether connecting through jointly attending to something creates social closeness even in an online video call environment. Additionally, we will explore how group size moderates the closeness created in these interactions

The role of text exposure on language comprehension

    No full text
An accumulating evidence points to large individual differences in the adult speakers’ knowledge of complex and simple syntactic structures of their native language (e.g. Dabrowska, 2012; 2015; Hulstijn, 2015; Kidd, Donnelly, Christiansen 2017, for reviews). Such findings support experience or usage-based theories of language. Investigation of various factors that drive individual differences in language acquisition help us gain insight into the relationship between the language input, learner characteristics, and linguistic outcomes. This study investigates how prior literacy experiences modulate language processing across life span. We correlate participants' responses on the 3 off-line tasks: Author Recognition Test, Shipley Vocabulary Test, and Self-Perception Survey of Reading Enjoyment to their responses on the on-line whole sentence self-paced reading task. The reading task included 4 types of sentences that are known to vary in syntactically complexity, comprehension difficulty, and frequency in written vs. spoken texts: subject and object relative clauses, passive main clauses, and simple active sentences
