Aim: To investigate the effects of acute walking exercises performed at different intensities on appetite levels and blood lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 concentrations in obese women.
Materials and Methods: 11 obese sedentary women participated in the study. Participants were made to do moderate and high intensity walking exercises on two separate days and their appetite levels, blood lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 concentrations were examined before and after the exercise. Data were analyzed with SPSS 25.0 package program. p0.005 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The mean age and body mass index of the participants were 46.34 years and 33.46 kg/m2, respectively. It was determined that the participants did not change their nutritional levels during the study. No significant difference was observed between the blood lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 concentrations and CNDP2 expressions of the participants before the two exercises. Moderate intensity continuous walking exercise increased the satiety level of the participants. After high-intensity walking exercise, the participants' serum lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 concentrations decreased significantly (p0.05). A decrease in CNDP2 expression was detected after moderate-intensity walking (p0.05). It was determined that the appetite level was higher after high-intensity exercise compared to moderate-intensity exercise and that serum lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 levels were lower (p0.05).
Conclusion: It was found that high intensity walking exercise performed in the fasted state did not change appetite and decreased serum lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 levels in obese women. It was concluded that exercise intensity and fasting are the main factors affecting serum lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 levels. It is thought that the increase in exercise intensity causes an increase in the clearance of serum lactate, phenylalanine and CNDP2 to the heart tissue and increases Lac phe secretion in the heart
General, Social, and Intellectual Structure of Breastfeeding Studies in the Field of Nursing: a Bibliometric Analysis on R Software
Objective: This study aims to reveal the general, social, and intellectual structure of breastfeeding studies published in the field of nursing between 2014 and 2023 by using the bibliometric method. Methods: A total of 2304 articles published in the last ten years were reached by searching the Web of Science database using the keywords "breastfeeding" and "breast feeding." Study data were analyzed on the open source R Studio software and the "biblioshiny for bibliometrix" package, an R software tool. Descriptive, cluster, and network analyses were performed. Results: Of the articles, 10.46 % were single-author studies, the mean collaboration index was three, and the author footprint index was 0.22. The most cited article in the intellectual field had been published by Henshaw et al. in 2014. The word tree mapping yielded four basic concepts as a result of the evaluation of the word frequencies. The theme analysis indicated that advanced hotspots and the main topics discussed by the authors mainly included breastfeeding, lactation, breastfeeding support, and exclusive breastfeeding. The United States was the country with the highest number of publications and was effective in collaboration. Conclusions: Breastfeeding studies in the field of nursing conducted in the last decade maintain their importance in the field. Practical implications: Breastfeeding continues to be important in the field of nursing as well as maternal and infant health. The results of the study are expected to guide researchers, policy makers and program managers interested in the subject. (c) 2024 Elsevier Inc. 18(3-Glycyrrhetinic Acid Mitigates Bisphenol A-Induced Liver and Renal Damage: Inhibition of Tnf-α/Nf-κb Jak1/Stat1 Pathways, Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis
Bisphenol A (BPA) has been commonly used in various consumer products, including water bottles, food containers, and canned food linings. However, there are concerns about its potential toxicity to human health, particularly its impact on the liver and kidneys. The objective of this research was to investigate the potential ameliorative effects of 18(3-glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) against BPA-induced hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity in rats. The animals were supplemented with BPA (250 mg/kg b.w.) alone or with GA (50 and 100 mg/kg b.w.) for 14 days. GA treatment alleviated the BPA-induced hepato-renal tissue injuries through reducing the serum ALT, AST and ALP levels, and urea and creatinine levels. GA co-treatment also increased activities of SOD, CAT and GPx enzymes and levels of GSH, and suppressed MDA levels in BPA induced tissues. BPA also induced inflammation by increasing the levels of TNF-alpha, NF-kappa B, JAK1, STAT1, P38 MAPK and JNK in liver and kidney tissues and GA treatment ameliorated these effects. BPA triggered apoptosis by increasing caspase-3, Bax, and cytochrome c at protein levels and also by decreasing the antiapoptotic Bcl-2 level. However, treatment with GA (50 and 100 mg/kg) decreased apoptosis. Overall, our results have revealed the potential ameliorative mechanisms of GA, as a possible agent for BPA-induced hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity.Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Bingol University [BAP-FEF.2020.00.006]This work was supported by Grants from the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Bingol University (Project Code: BAP-FEF.2020.00.006). A Rare Disease With Many Faces: a Multicentre Registry of Igg4-Related Disease in Children
Objectives: We aimed to report the characteristics of paediatric IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) through a multicentre registry, to assess disease clusters, and to evaluate the performances of the 2019 American College of Rheumatology and European League Against Rheumatism (ACR/EULAR) classification criteria and the 2020 revised comprehensive diagnostic (RCD) criteria in this cohort. Methods: Data of IgG4-RD patients in 13 paediatric rheumatology centres were recorded to a web-based registration system. The diagnosis of IgG4-RD was made according to the 2011 comprehensive diagnostic criteria. Results: Thirty-five children (19 females and 16 males) with IgG4-RD were enrolled. The median age at diagnosis was 13.3 (25p-75p; 9.9–15.2) years. The most common organ involvement was the eye (n ¼ 21, 60%), followed by lymph nodes (n ¼ 12, 34.3%), musculoskeletal system (n ¼ 12, 34.3%), and neurological system (n ¼ 9, 25.7%). We identified three clusters in our study cohort: those with eye involvement (n ¼ 11, 31.4%), those with eye involvement and neurological findings (n ¼ 15, 42.9%), and those with pancreato-hepatobiliary disease and lymph node involvement (n ¼ 9, 25.7%). Serum IgG4 levels were high in 19 out of 28 patients (67.8%). All patients except one received corticosteroid treatment, and azathioprine was the most preferred drug as a steroid-sparing agent. The sensitivities of the 2019 ACR/EULAR classification criteria and the 2020 RCD criteria were 5.7% and 88.5%, respectively. Conclusion: IgG4-RD has a wide variety of clinical manifestations; however, in children, the most common presentation was orbital involvement. The 2020 RCD criteria had a better performance whereas the 2019 ACR/EULAR classification criteria performed poorly in paediatric patients. © The Author(s) 2024. Rumination, Basic Beliefs, and Posttraumatic Growth in Cancer Patients: a Moderated Mediation Model
Background Cancer is a highly distressing and traumatic experience that can significantly impact individuals' psychological well-being. Whereas many cancer patients may experience negative psychological outcomes, such as posttraumatic stress symptoms, a subset of individuals also reports positive psychological changes known as posttraumatic growth. Objective To contribute to theory-driven development of these treatments by exploring the role of deliberate rumination in posttraumatic growth, along with the basic beliefs that might shape it. Methods A sample of cancer patients (n = 139) completed self-report measures assessing rumination, basic beliefs, and posttraumatic growth. Multiple linear regression analyses and moderated mediation models were conducted to analyze the data. Results Findings support the hypothesis that intrusive rumination, deliberate ruminating, and disruption in basic beliefs strongly predict posttraumatic growth in cancer survivors. The results of this simple mediation indicate that deliberate rumination has a full mediating role. The results show that at all levels of basic beliefs, there is a positive and statistically significant indirect effect of intrusive rumination on posttraumatic growth. Conclusions These findings highlight the importance of addressing rumination and core beliefs in interventions aimed at promoting posttraumatic growth among cancer patients. Further research is needed to explore additional factors that may influence the relationship between rumination, basic beliefs, and posttraumatic growth. Implications for Practice Oncology nurses can assist individuals in recognizing and managing intrusive rumination, as well as advocating deliberate rumination as a constructive cognitive process for making sense of a traumatic event and fostering growth. © 2023 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. Baskan, Emre/0000-0001-7069-0658; Taskin, Gulsen/0000-0002-2016-4147; Yesil, Hilal/0000-0002-8291-1515; Eken, Fatma/0000-0003-2975-7480Background: There is a need for practical, easy-to-use and accurately assessing balance tools in stroke patients. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the psychometric properties of the dual-task Timed Up-and-Go test (cognitive) (DTUG) and the 3-m walk backward test (3MBWT) in stroke patients. Methods: This study evaluated the practicality, validity, and reliability of the DTUG and the 3MBWT. The test-retest method was used for reliability. The Modified Four Square Step Test (MFSST), the Timed Up-and-Go (TUG), and Berg Balance Scale (BBS) were administered for concurrent validity. A cutoff value was calculated to discriminate between fallers and non-fallers. Results: The mean practicality times of the tests were 63.58 +/- 47.32 sec for DTUG and 37.42 +/- 24.036 sec for 3MBWT. Intraclass correlation coefficient of the DTUG and 3MBWT were 0.977, 0.964, respectively which showed excellent test - retest reliability. The DTUG demonstrated strong/very strong correlations with the MFSST (r = 0.724, p 0.001), TUG (r = 0.909, p 0.001), and BBS (r = -0.740, p 0.001). The 3MBWT showed strong correlations with the MFSST (r = 0.835, p 0.001), the TUG (r = 0.799, p 0.001), and the BBS (r = -0.740, p 0.001). The cutoff point was 36.945 s for DTUG and 14.605 s for 3MBWT. Conclusions: The 3MBWT was a more practical test than the DTUG; however, the DTUG was more discriminative than the 3MBWT in identifying fallers after stroke

The ability of C-reactive protein-albumin ratio to predict disease activity in ulcerative colitis
Aim: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an incurable disease represented by relapse and remission. Noninvasive biomarkers are required to predict disease activation. This study aimed to identify noninvasive biomarkers, such as the c-reactive protein-albumin (CRP/ALB) ratio, platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), that might forecast disease activation in UC. Methods: This retrospective study included 443 participants: 192 patients with active UC, 166 in remission, and 85 healthy controls. Mayo Endoscopic Subscore was employed to assess endoscopic disease activity. Serum CRP, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), ALB levels, and complete blood count characteristics were documented. Three ratios of inflammation-related indicators were identified as CRP/ALB, PLR, and NLR. Results: A positive correlation was found between ESR, CRP, neutrophil count, platelet count, levels of CRP/ALB, PLR, NLR, and endoscopic activity. The CRP/ALB ratio demonstrated more efficacy than the NLR and PLR in differentiating the UC patients from the controls (p = 0.007, p = 0.003, respectively) and the active group from the remission group (p 0.001, p 0.001, respectively). Regression analysis revealed that the CRP/ALB was significantly able to distinguish active UC from the remission group and the controls (p 0.001, p 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: The CRP/ALB ratio could be useful as an independent predictive biomarker for disease activity in UC
Epidemiology of Pediatric Thoracolumbar Spinal Fractures and Associated Injuries: a Single-Center Experience
OBJECTIVE: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of pediatric patients with thoracolumbar spinal fractures and the characteristics of associated injuries. METHODS: Sixty-one patients under 18 years old with thoracolumbar spinal fractures were included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups: ≤ 8 years (Group 1) (n = 13) and > 8 years (Group 2) (n = 43). Patients were analyzed for age, gender, fracture type, fracture level, etiology, and associated injuries. RESULTS: The mean age was 158.7 (± 53.1) months, and the male/female ratio was 1.26. The most common fracture etiology was motor vehicle accidents (39.4%) and falls from height (18%). There was no correlation between the fracture type, the number of fractured vertebrae, and age. The most common associated injury was orthopedic injuries (34.3%). In Group 2, associated injuries developed more frequently in the presence of a major fracture, whereas in Group 1, associated injuries could occur even in isolated minor fractures. In Group 1, intrathoracic injuries associated with fractures (36.4%) were significantly higher than in Group 2 (4.2%). Surgical intervention was required in 9.8% of patients. CONCLUSION: Although thoracolumbar spinal fractures are rare in children, they are essential because preventable accidents essentially cause them and can have devastating consequences. There are significant differences in epidemiologic and clinical features between age groups. In this study, we have shown that even minor thoracolumbar vertebral fractures may be accompanied by associated injuries in children under 8 years of age. In contrast, major fractures are more frequently related to other organ injuries in older children. This may be because more severe trauma is required for a fracture of the thoracolumbar spine, which is more flexible and elastic in young children compared to adolescents. Our study has provided current and essential results regarding the etiology of pediatric thoracolumbar spine fractures. More multicenter studies are needed to understand the characteristics of thoracolumbar fractures in pediatric patients. © 2025.
