Thermal fluid dynamic analysis of the MEGAPIE target heat exchanger in steady state and transient conditions

    Get PDF
The MEGAwatt PIlot Experiment (MEGAPIE) project has the aim to demonstrate the feasibility of a liquid Lead-Bismuth target for spallation facilities at a beam power level of 1 MW. About 650 kW of thermal power has to be removed from the target through a bunch of 12 pin-coolers, using a diathermic oil as secondary coolant. In order to improve the heat exchange in the oil side, a spiral is introduced in the oil riser, which enforces a swirling flow thus increasing the Reynolds number and the heat transfer coefficient. A single-pin experimental rig was set up and tested in the ENEA-Brasimone facility. A detailed CFD simulation of the experiment was carried out by CRS4, showing the capability of the simulation to give a quantitatively correct prediction of the heat exchange mechanisms in the cooling pin. In order to analyse the performances of the actual Megapie Target Heat eXchanger (THX), the thermal-hydraulic simulation of a sector of the THX, including only one of the 12 pin coolers, has been carried out by CRS4 in steady state and transient conditions, with the assumption of periodical flow-conditions along the THX circumference. The main tasks of this work were the assessment of the global performances of the THX and the evaluation of the thermal field in the solid structure, to be used successively for the calculation of thermal stresses in the target structures

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
Inedit

Sistemi informatici avanzati per l'analisi stratigrafica archeologica

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
An extensive quality assessment of the data has been carried out to characterize the area overlying the aquifer system of Portoscuso (Southern Sardinia). In this context we set up a geographical information system and applied a environmental model to study contaminant migration. A critical point of our study is the data crossing between the measured data and the simulated ones. In this context a methodology for testing the accuracy of the model and to calibrate hydro−geological parameters has been implemented in the GIS.715-72

Validazione e rilascio del codice ARES

    No full text
The presented work had started from the attempt of simulating the premixed reactive flow in the experimental ENSMA combustor, by using TFC premixed combustion model. The apparently simple test case had soon appeared to be a very tough one instead, challenging the two codes used (Ares and Fluent) and making very difficult to find good agreement with the experimental measures. The difficulties encountered were related to the TFC combustion model and to the turbulence model as well. The investigation carried out with the two codes put in evidence the need for extending the TFC model to non-adiabatic and heat-conducting capabilities. This work will be done during the third year of the project, redesigning the activities of Objective no. 8. A strong effect due to the turbulence models was also found. Ares results were better than Fluent ones, whenever a comparison with the same turbulence model was possible. The best solution was found with RNG k-ε model implemented into Ares, slightly better than Fluent results with a full Reynolds Stress Model

This Report has been prepared in fulfilment of Deliverable D4.1, required as an intermediate result of Work Package 4 (Real time physically based surgical simulators) of the EU Framework V Project IERAPSI, An Integrated Environment for the Rehearsal and Planning of Surgical Interventions (IST-1999-12175). Deliverable D4.1 relates to the Surgical simulation software kernel, the first of the two main expected results of Work Package 4. The “Surgical simulation software kernel” will be used as the foundation upon which task T4.6 “Surgical simulator prototypes” will build deliverable D4.2, Petrous bone surgical simulation platform. The present document provides a technical description of the software system produced
