Planet-Sized Batched Dynamic Adaptive Meshes (P-BDAM)
Get PDFThis paper describes an efficient technique for out-of-core management and interactive rendering of planet sized textured terrain surfaces. The technique, called planet-sized batched dynamic adaptive meshes (P-BDAM), extends the BDAM approach by using as basic primitive a general triangulation of points on a displaced triangle. The proposed framework introduces several advances with respect to the state of the art: thanks to a batched host-to-graphics communication model, we outperform current adaptive tessellation solutions in terms of rendering speed; we guarantee overall geometric continuity, exploiting programmable graphics hardware to cope with the accuracy issues introduced by single precision floating points; we exploit a compressed out of core representation and speculative prefetching for hiding disk latency during rendering of out-of-core data; we efficiently construct high quality simplified representations with a novel distributed out of core simplification algorithm working on a standard PC network.147-15

Get PDFThe adoption of a suitable pumping–injecting well network and the human enhancement of the activity of soil bacteria, whose metabolism contributes to degrade and transform many pollutants in non-toxic substances, may be crucial in the process of remediation of contaminated soils. Organic contaminant transport in a subsurface aquifer and its biological degradation kinetics is numerically addressed by using a four contaminant species model. A numerical approach is proposed, that is based on a cell-centre finite volume method for the system of advection–dispersion equations of contaminants with a mixed-hybrid finite element method for the solution of a single-phase Darcy's equation. The effectiveness of the method and its accuracy in retaining the main physical properties of the continuous mathematical model is illustrated by simulating the time evolution of contaminant concentrations in a set of realistic scenarios.1-21Pubblicat

The present document provides a technical description of the software system produced.
The report concludes with a bibliography of cited reference work. An accompanying video (available on the deliverable CD-ROM) further illustrates the petrous bone surgical simulation platform with live sequences comparing a real and a simulated surgical procedure performed on the temporal bone
