Modelling of Human-Machine Interaction in Equipment Design of Manufacturing Cells
This paper proposes a systematic approach to model human–machine interactions (HMIs) in supervisory control of machining operations; it characterises the coexistence of machines and humans for an enterprise to balance the goals of automation/productivity and flexibility/agility. In the proposed HMI model, an operator is associated with a set of behavioural roles as a supervisor for multiple, semi-automated manufacturing processes. The model is innovative in the sense that (1) it represents an HMI based on its functions for process control but provides the flexibility for ongoing improvements in the execution of manufacturing processes; (2) it provides a computational tool to define functional requirements for an operator in HMIs. The proposed model can be used to design production systems at different levels of an enterprise architecture, particularly at the machine level in a production system where operators interact with semi-automation to accomplish the goal of ‘autonomation’ – automation that augments the capabilities of human beings
Teacher to teacher: An investigation into teacher-generated online professional development
This brief paper presents a work-in-progress research study aimed at investigating how selected secondary English teachers describe their experiences organizing and facilitating online professional development opportunities for their peers at a distance. Framed by scholarship problematizing traditional, top-down teacher professional development and research detailing the value of self-directed online participation as professional development, the qualitative research project described here is intended to help build an understanding of English language arts teachers’ experiences creating and leading voluntary online professional development opportunities for fellow teachers

Detection of Snake Fungal Disease from a Lampropeltis triangulum (Eastern Milksnake) in Northern Michigan
An alarming number of cases of Snake Fungal Disease (SFD), a condition frequently resulting in morbidity and mortality in snakes, have been documented in numerous species across much of the eastern US. We sampled a skin lesion on the face of a free-ranging Lampropeltis triangulum (Eastern Milksnake) from the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The lesion tested positive for Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola, the causative agent of SFD. Our results document the second species from Michigan known to be infected with SFD. This case adds to the growing body of literature detailing the distribution of snake species affected, and further indicates that this pathogen is widespread in the eastern US. We stress the continued need for increased, systematic sampling efforts to determine the species affected by SFD and the potentially deleterious impacts it has on snake populations
