    Oxidative Stress Studies of Methanosarcina acetivorans

    Oxidative stress is the imbalance of oxidants and reductants; it affects different parts of the organisms. In methane-producing archaea, Methanosarcina acetivorans, a rubrerythrin-like protein methanogen rubrerythrin, is involved in the oxidative defense of the microorganism. It is a 45 kDa homodimer protein in the buffer solution. ICPMS and EXAFS analyses confirmed the presence of iron and zinc in this protein\u27s structure. EPR confirmed the iron (Fe3+) of the rubredoxin center with the characteristic peak in the low field having a 9.35 g value and a diiron center peak in the high field region with a characteristic 2.01 g value. A BioSAXS analysis was conducted to investigate the structural changes in a mRbr under different conditions. The results revealed that the protein undergoes substantial structural modifications when exposed to either oxidation or reduction. When treated with H2O2, the protein sample displayed an Rg of 47Ao and a Dmax of 167 Ao, indicating a larger size than the reduced state.     In December 2021, Abbott Elementary debuted their first episode, following a cast of diverse teachers at an underfunded elementary school in Philadelphia. While there is previous research on the importance of tv representation and pedagogical practices in the media, this show presents a unique opportunity for analysis.     Weather and Technology Trends in U.S. Durum Wheat Yields

    Durum wheat is the primary ingredient in a global staple food item: pasta. Yet, it is considered a minor wheat crop with less than 2.0 million acres devoted to production in the U.S. Durm wheat production has not received much attention from researchers in terms of either weather impacts or technology trends. This paper uses a multiple regression model to estimate the gains in U.S. yields due to technology and the key weather variables that impact yields in the April through August growing season. The data focus on yields in the key Montana and North Dakota growing areas commonly referred to as the “Durum Triangle.” The regression models reveal two consistent findings. First, the rate of yield increased due to technology is approximately 0.40 bushels per acre per year. Second, the key weather factor in determining yields is the July temperature where each 1 degree (Fahrenheit) above normal reduces yields by roughly 1.5 bushels per acre. Producers, processors, and food companies can use this finding to better anticipate annual durum wheat production volumes and plan their business accordingly
