Paintings Analysis Using Copilot AI: The Case of Winston Churchill and Art in His Life
The objective of this presentation is to demonstrate a method for analyzing artistic style and its potential evolution using the Copilot AI platform. As a case study, I explore the paintings of Winston Churchill (1874–1965), the British Prime Minister, who was also a passionate and prolific painter. Although Churchill began painting in his forties, he produced over 500 works, with his final piece completed in 1962.
Churchill frequently painted scenes from Southern France and Morocco—locations he returned to repeatedly throughout his artistic life. Remarkably, he continued painting even after suffering multiple cerebrovascular accidents. Stroke-induced brain damage is typically detrimental to professional skills and creative expression. However, there are documented cases of individuals who not only recovered but also exhibited notable changes in their artistic output post-stroke.
As part of my research, I selected several pairs of Churchill’s paintings depicting the same locations or objects—created before and after his major stroke in June 1953. The goal was to examine whether this neurological event led to a discernible shift or impairment in his painting style.
In this 25-minute presentation, I will share with the community of educators and researchers my experience using Office 365’s Copilot AI to conduct this analysis. I will highlight how this tool can be applied to case studies involving evolution of artistic expression and style comparison
Smart Justice: Integrating ArcGIS to Bridge Curriculum and Professional Practice
This presentation demonstrates how ArcGIS can be integrated as a learning tool within online graduate criminal justice courses, enriching instruction and fostering transferable professional skills. ArcGIS is a powerful geospatial software used by researchers and criminal justice professionals to analyze patterns of crime and their impact on policing, reintegration, urban design and other justice-related issues. Incorporating ArcGIS in the curriculum connects theory with practice and equips graduates with the necessary skills for modern criminal justice professionals
Incarcerated Youth Returning to Society as Adults: An Examination of Their Lived Experiences and Challenges
When children have been incarcerated, they face collateral consequences that make it nearly impossible to recover from when they return home. Collateral consequences are the adverse effects experienced by incarcerated people and their families often causing restrictions or missed opportunities after interaction with the criminal justice system (Moise, Simonsen, & Kearl, 2023). Collateral consequences can be related to housing, employment, and education, to name a few. These lost opportunities are concerning for youth because most have never held a job or finished high school. Collateral consequences often set them up for failure leading to the revolving doors of jails and prisons which are a significant cost to everyone.
Utilizing the IPA approach, this study was first of its kind to explore the lived experiences and the impact of collateral consequences on individuals incarcerated as youth that have returned to society as adults, their perception of the collateral consequences before incarceration, and the impact the collateral consequences have on them, their families, and the community.
The analysis of the lived experiences of eight individuals who were incarcerated as youth and returned to society as adults revealed that the prison environment is traumatizing and there is a lack of programs and inadequate physical and mental health services. Moreover, participants reported facing challenging, even unsurmountable, collateral consequences when they returned home with no resources available.
This study brings awareness to the public, at-risk youth, and policymakers to eliminate the barriers to afford a pathway to successful reentry and reduce recidivism
Facilitating Trauma Informed Practices in Intermediate Algebra
As a programmatic evaluation effort, we examined the extent to which Intermediate Algebra instructors promoted trauma-informed practices. Data were garnered from 230 students enrolled in Intermediate Algebra in Fall 2024 via a Trauma Informed Practices Survey and a survey about the impact of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. The quantitative data was analyzed using frequencies, and the qualitative data were analyzed using open coding and thematic analysis. The results suggest that students generally perceive their instructors exhibited trauma-informed care. The results have implications for providing adequate support and resources to ensure all students learn mathematics
Of Standardized Student Measurements and Tests in the Dominican Republic
The present work seeks to establish a comparison between two different and distant evaluation tools applied to the Dominican student population in order to measure the efficiency of our educational system in the recent years, one of them measured the quality of Dominican education in three areas (the PISA Test), whereas the other tested the quality of the proficiency of the English language (EF English Proficiency Index), both for the pre-college levels. Although one of our cherished ideas was our having analyzed such tests of extreme relevance for us, the EFL Teachers and Professors at many different levels, as the TOEFL Test, but due to a lack of available data, that purpose has been postponed at the moment, and we have to conform to compare the PISA Test and the EF EPI (which have been applied, analyzed and roughly criticized in the Dominican Republic for both the Ministries of Education and for the opposing non-governing sectors, as well. This research is a comparative study resulting out of the analysis of the two above mentioned measurements entities held in this decade and consequently all of the data available are contained in them, plus a questionnaire submitted to three sections of advanced English students at Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo. To that effect a questionnaire is defined as “A questionnaire is a research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent.” A research questionnaire is typically a mix of close-ended questions and open-ended questions. Open-ended, long-form questions offer the respondent the ability to elaborate on their thoughts. Research questionnaires were developed in 1838 by the Statistical Society of London. (Question Pro, 2021). The results of the questionnaires submitted to those college students are duly analyzed and converted into a useful data for the corresponding conclusions in the final chapters of this work
Trascendencia del Programa de Inglés para Estudiantes Aprendices con otros Idiomas (ESOL) y su Efecto en el Rendimiento Académico. Broward, Florida
Esta disertación aplicada tuvo como propósito determinar la trascendencia del programa de inglés para estudiantes ESOL y su efecto en el rendimiento académico en Broward, Florida. De igual forma, establecer el alcance y desarrollo del mismo en la población atendida, así como el avance alcanzado, en cuanto al rendimiento escolar en los aprendices del idioma inglés de centros educativos seleccionados; tomando como referencia “Escuelas K-12” del Condado y sobre la fundamentación teórica de “El lenguaje y los problemas del conocimiento” de Noam Chomsky (1988). Dicho programa se instaura en el estado de Florida, cumpliendo con el Art. (Code Ann. 6-16-104) del Florida Department of Education (2011) el cual se enfoca en la instrucción del inglés como el medio principal para ayudar a los estudiantes ELL a adquirir el lenguaje y en última instancia, alcanzar altos estándares académicos.
La metodología utilizada es de enfoque cuantitativo y corresponde con un diseño no experimental, se aplicó un cuestionario denominado “Encuesta ESOL para Estudiantes Hispanos” diseñado para determinar la trascendencia del programa en la adquisición del idioma inglés y sus efectos en el rendimiento escolar, donde el análisis de los resultados permitió dar respuesta a las preguntas de investigación y lo más importantes es que dejó evidenciar la efectividad y alcance del programa ESOL en escuelas K-12 con estudiantes ELL del Condado, tanto para el aprendizaje del idioma inglés como para mejorar el rendimiento escolar.
Por último, este estudio es relevante para futuras indagaciones respecto al tema ya que, sus resultados pudieran conducir a la toma de decisiones pertinentes en cuanto al alcance del programa ESOL en la población estudiantil atendida en los centros educativos del Condado, Broward, así como para buscar un mejor rendimiento académico en los estudiantes aprendices, que no manejan el idioma inglés y que viven en los Estados Unidos de América (USA)
Physics Teachers\u27 Perceptions about Diagnostic Assessment of Students\u27 Physics Misconception: A Phenomenological Study
Physics learning needs to be designed by teachers to minimize misconceptions. Different diagnostic tools have been developed and used by researchers to identify student misconceptions. However, each tool has advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, teachers play a crucial role, including their understanding of misconceptions and their ability to select the most effective tools according to their purpose. This study sought to uncover the experiences of eight physics teachers through phenomenological studies. Physics teachers involved in this research had diversity based on the period of experience teaching physics, geographical area, and education level. A virtual semi-structured interview (40 to 60 minutes) for all physics teachers involved in this study. Personal Practice Theories (PPTs) by Cornett was chosen as a framework to shape the experiences and perspectives of physics teachers regarding the assessment of physics misconceptions, viewed from personal aspects, knowledge, and how they practice diagnostic misconception assessments in physics classrooms. The findings revealed four themes: (1) personal experiences of Physics teachers, (2) Physics teachers\u27 knowledge, (3) practices in assessing Physics misconceptions, and (4) teachers\u27 reflections on future assessment practice. The research findings provided valuable references for physics educators and curriculum developers
The Future of Nursing Leadership: Incorporating e-Learned Artificial Intelligence (AI) Pathways with A Precautionary Focus of Patient-Centered-Care
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a data-driven mathematical process that incorporates machine-based-logic, usually in the form of algorithms. Education, training, and competencies are now conducted through virtual reality, robotics, simulation, and technology learning-based-platforms by healthcare organizations. This represents a significant change in the future of nursing practice. The adaptability of technology-based-learning platforms can impact the quality and efficiency of learning for some of the workforce population. Nurses\u27 perception of technology and AI-driven nursing practice may vary based on generational orientation and can be a potential barrier to learning, practicing, and adaptability of this framework. The forging of well-trained resilient nurse leaders who will objectively review e-Learned AI algorithms with human assessment and overseeing will ensure quality care, and avoid underlying biases, and inequalities to prevent distorted pathways of care. Future nurse leaders can be supported by e-Learned AI pathways but must safeguard and remain focused on patient-centered-car
The benefits of high phosphate concentration (10N : 1P) and diagonal orientation on the ex situ grow-out of Caribbean coral juveniles
As coral reefs keep declining, it is imperative to increase coral production ex situ for restoration, but this requires culture protocols to be optimized. This study examined the impacts of grow-out orientation and phosphate concentration (and nitrate (N): phosphate (P) ratio) on the survival and growth of Montastraea cavernosa and Pseudodiploria clivosa juveniles from 3 to 9 months old. Pristine reefs typically have low nitrate (0.12μmol/L) and low phosphate (0.03μmol/L) concentrations, leading to N:P ratios of 4-16 N: 1P. In recirculating tanks, it is difficult to lower nitrate concentrations below 25μmol/L. Here we hypothesized that increasing the phosphate concentration in aquaria while keeping nitrate concentration high to reach the optimal N:P will enhance coral survival and growth. We assessed this by using two phosphate concentrations, 4.04 ± 0.08μmol/L and 2.43 ± 0.03μmol/L, while keeping nitrate concentration at 39.11 ± 0.71μmol/L, leading to N:P ratios of 10:1 and 16:1. We also investigated the influence of diagonal (60°), horizontal (0°) and vertical (90°) orientation on coral grow-out. Growing corals out at an angled orientation reduced detritus accumulation and doubled the number of corals that could be reared in the same space. It also resulted in significantly higher survival rates for M. cavernosa (73.82 ± 7%) and P. clivosa (89.53 ± 5%), compared to the horizontal orientation (62.35 ± 7% and 65.35 ± 9%, respectively per species). Corals grown at the high phosphate concentration (10:1 N:P ratio), had significantly larger final live tissue area than corals grown in the low phosphate concentration. When considering both survival and growth our findings suggest that M. cavernosa and P. clivosa juveniles from 3 to 9 months of age should be grown ex situ at a diagonal orientation under a high phosphate (4.04 μmol/L) concentration within a 10:1 N:P ratio
