Knowing as Moving: Perception, Memory, and Place
In Knowing as Moving, Susan Leigh Foster theorizes how the act of moving in and through the world creates the potential for individual and collective bodies to connect. Starting from the assertion that knowing takes place through bodily movement, Foster moves away from the Western philosophical traditions of dance, critiquing the Cartesian mind-body duality and its colonizing politics. She draws on Native and Indigenous studies, ecological cognitive science, disability studies, phenomenology, and new materialism to explore how knowledge is neither static nor storable. Thinking is a physical action and the product of an entire neuromuscular system with its mobile postural and gestural configurations, perceptual systems, and brain activity. Foster outlines how reading, examining, talking, and remembering are all forms of moving and contends that any process of knowing establishes one’s identity and relationality. By focusing on the centrality of bodily movement to thought and self, she contributes a decolonial critique of the study of knowledge and being. In so doing, Foster replaces the Cartesian-colonial “I think, therefore I am” with a decolonial “I move, and therefore I know.”

Guidelines for Economic and Installation Environment-Based Selection of Overhead Transmission Conductors
This paper provides guidelines for transmission grid planners to improve conductor selection in capacity upgrade projects. Proposed guidelines are developed by implementing a formalized methodology that pre-selects feasible conductors based on ampacity and sag constraints, then evaluates the net-present cost (NPC) of each project over the entire lifetime of the line. Results emphasize the impact of conductor selection on projects' cost-benefit value, and recommend for grid planners to: i) consider various parameters for conductor selection (technical, economic, and new power generation), ii) evaluate projects over the entire line lifetime, iii) associate conductor selection with investment option selection, and iv) better estimate the duration of line use to capture the impact of losses and congestion

Autoimmune antibodies and systemic inflammatory markers are prevalent and associated with cognition in individuals aged 90+
BackgroundWhile recent studies have found associations between markers of autoimmunity/inflammation and cognitive performance in individuals aged 60-90, these findings remain unexplored in individuals aged 90 and above.ObjectiveTo examine the prevalence of autoimmune antibodies and raised inflammatory markers and their associations with cognition in participants aged 90 + .MethodsWe included participants with serological testing from The 90+ Study, a community-based longitudinal study in southern California. For measures of autoimmunity, we evaluated antinuclear, antineutrophil cytoplasmic (ANCA), rheumatoid factor, double stranded DNA, antithyroglobulin, and thyroid peroxidase antibodies. For inflammatory markers, we examined interleukin-6 (IL-6) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). To examine the relationship between autoimmune antibodies and inflammatory markers with cognitive performance, we ran linear mixed effects models.ResultsAmong 201 participants (mean age 94.8 years, 56.7% female, 93.5% white, and 4.5% with rheumatologic illness), autoimmune antibodies were positive in 70.2%. Also, among 142 participants with test results, elevated inflammatory markers were detected in 76.8%. Linear mixed effects model analyses revealed an association between higher levels of ANCA (p = 0.04), IL-6 (p = 0.01), and ESR (p = 0.01) and lower global cognitive scores. In a subset of participants with amyloid PET (n = 173), results remained significant even after accounting for amyloid burden.ConclusionsAutoimmune antibodies and raised inflammatory markers were highly prevalent in a community cohort of individuals aged 90 + . Our results suggest that increased prevalence of autoimmunity and inflammation might be associated with worse cognitive performance in this age group, independent of amyloid
Predicting high anger intensity using ecological momentary assessment and wearable-derived physiological data in a trauma-affected sample
Background: Digital technologies offer tremendous potential to predict dysregulated mood and behavior within an individual's environment, and in doing so can support the development of new digital health interventions. However, no prediction models have been built in trauma-exposed populations that leverage real-world data.Objective: This project aimed to determine if wearable-derived physiological data can predict anger intensity in trauma-exposed adults.Method: Heart rate variability (i.e. a commercial wearable stress score) was combined with ecological momentary assessment (EMA) data collected over 10 days (n = 84). Five summary measures from stress scores collected 10 min prior to each EMA were selected using factor analysis of 24 candidates.Results: A high area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) was found for a logistic mixed effects model including these measures as predictors, ranging 0.761 (95% CI:0.569-0.921) to 0.899 (95% CI:0.784-0.980) across cross-validation methods.Conclusions: While the predictive performance may be overly optimistic due to the outcome prevalence (13.8%) and requires replication with larger datasets, our promising findings have significant methodological and clinical implications for researchers looking to build novel prediction and treatment approaches to respond to posttraumatic mental health
Case of early onset Alzheimer’s disease associated with a novel PSEN1 variant identified in Colombia
Early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (EOAD) is a rare form of dementia that often progresses more quickly than late-onset cases, and is more commonly associated with autosomal dominant mutations. A 47-year-old male presented with progressive cognitive and behavioral decline, a family history of EOAD, and was later found to have a novel pathogenic PSEN1 variant (c.519 G > T, p.Leu173Phe). Initial evaluations, including neuroimaging and laboratory tests, were unremarkable. Neuropsychological testing later revealed memory impairment, executive dysfunction, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. These features, alongside the identified mutation, are consistent with phenotypic presentations of EOAD involving the third transmembrane domain of PSEN1. Pharmacological treatment with cholinesterase inhibitors and antipsychotics yielded limited benefit. Notably, the extended follow-up time, of more than 10 years from the early symptomatic stage, is a unique and valuable feature of this case study, providing rare longitudinal insight into the natural course of genetically confirmed EOAD
Family meals are associated with lower substance use in female adolescents
Adolescents, especially female youth, who have more family meals tend to be at lower risk for substance use. The present study tested whether family meals relate to substance use count and frequency during high school, whether associations differ by gender, and whether other family-related variables explain these associations. A community sample of 316 adolescents (M age = 16.40, SD = 0.74; 56.96% female; 41.77% Latine, 23.10% Asian American, 29.11% European American, 6.01% from other ethnic backgrounds including Middle Eastern and African American) reported the number of substances they have ever used and how often they used alcohol, marijuana, and cigarettes, and completed measures of parental support and family cohesion. Across 15 days, they reported whether they had a family meal, got along with parents, and spent leisure time with their family each day. Regression models tested associations between frequency of family meals and substance use, whether associations differed by gender, and whether associations were explained by other family-related variables. Results indicated that more frequent family meals were associated with lower substance use count and less frequent alcohol, marijuana, and cigarette use among female adolescents but not male adolescents. Other daily family experiences were unrelated to substance use, and family meal frequency was independently related to lower substance use after accounting for parental support and family cohesion. Taken together, more frequent family meals in high school may reduce substance use risk for female adolescents, and interventions could consider promoting family meals in addition to other positive family values
