(Venue) Caples Fine Arts Complex, Caples Courtyard(Original Version) Mural was expected to remain for approximately two to five years, but was painted over by the school's new administration in July 2023, six months after its completion.(Funding) Created for Professor Kim Anderson's On Site/ Sight Mural Painting course(Internal Comments) "The story of the sirens is one that has been told for centuries through the eyes of helpless male sailors; many iterations of the sirens depict them as mischievously cruel creatures that cause shipwrecks and feed on the naΓ―ve men whom they enchanted. As our views on sirens shifted, I chose the emphasis on intrusion and exploration. I chose the siren myth specifically because I wanted to connect with our student body since many can identify with them, specifically members of the LGBTQ+ community as sirens are symbols of transformation through alienation. As my storytelling style takes on more nuanced and ambiguous turns I wanted to show trespassers' naivety and curiosity, depicting them as young beachgoers who happened to stumble across the sirens. I also wanted to capture two crucial parts of the students' experience which are exploration and impulsivity. The inclusion of a person hanging onto the frame builds visual tension, creating the illusion of a portal." -Hahn Nguye
