Phylogeny and Biogeography of Palaemon Species (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) in the Northern Gulf of Mexico
Grass shrimp of the genus Palaemon (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) have a worldwide distribution and are common inhabitants of wetland ecosystems. Palaemon has been the subject of some phylogenetic confusion, as species within the genus have been misclassified and the genus itself has been reorganized several times. To clarify some of this confusion and analyze geographic diversity, the COI and H3 genes were sequenced and used to delineate species and infer phylogenetic relationships for members of the Palaemon genus. Specimens for this study were collected from the northern Gulf of Mexico, where several Palaemon species with high morphological similarity reside. The collected sequences were combined with publicly available Palaemon sequences, aligned, and used to produce several types of phylogenetic trees for Palaemon. The phylogenetic trees indicated that the Mississippi River does not act as a genetic boundary for eastern and western populations within species. However, Palaemon vulgaris showed a significant divide between the publicly available sequences, which were collected from the American east coast north of the Gulf of Mexico, and those sequences collected during this study. This divide was not shared by the Palaemon pugio sequences involved in this study, suggesting that P. pugio has a greater population connectivity along the east coast of America than P. vulgaris. In addition, the timetrees revealed very recent and ambiguous origins in several freshwater Palaemon species, indicating an area for further study

In this isssue, "the governments of the world have found out about Immortals and see in them an unstoppable work force. Richie is captured in the first US roundup and imprisoned in one of the first camps. Later, after he has been moved to a more secure prison, Duncan joins him. Duncan has had Joe alter the Watchers' records so that it looks as though they are lovers and, once Richie has recovered from the shock, he pairs off with his teacher, which gives their captors a hold over both of them. Richie's work is brought to him in the camp and Duncan is sent out on espionage and courier assignments. Meanwhile, Methos has been persuaded to do more than add his name to the resistance and is working to free Duncan so that he can hand over the work to the Highlander." (Fanlore.org wiki
