From brain death to organ-transplant
Get PDF40021915827application/pdf第二次大戦後,人工呼吸器が開発されたことにより,意識を失ったまま心臓だけ動き続けている患者が出現するようになった。最初のうちは内密に慈悲殺が行われていたが,おりから臓器移植が本格化したことで彼らは心臓移植の供給源として注目されるようになった。だが,そのためには死について再定義しなければ ならない。そこで1968年にハーバード大学が不可逆的昏睡状態に対し脳死とするよう提言して以来,心臓死に代わつて脳死が「人の死」として次第に認知されるようになった。だが臓器移植という功利性に基づいて人間の死を再定義したことには批判も根強い。本稿は脳死と臓器移植にまつわる問題として五つ挙げ,それらに筆者なりの見解を述べたものである。After the Second World War, there began to appear patients without consciousness whose heart continued to beat due to the invention of the artificial respirator.As organ transplantatlon became pracitical, they began to be considered as organ donors.To allow for such practice, in 1968 Harvard Medical School advocated for "brain death'' instead of conventional heart death as the end of human life. However, this new concept of "brain death" has been criticized for its utilitarianism. This article treats some problems of brain death and organ transplantation.It consists off five sections.
The frst three sections cover some basic facts about brain death and organ transplantation.
In the fourth section, five problems conceming brain death and organ transplantation are discussed.
