Flux Jumps up to 17 T in ReBCO Tape Stack Cables and their Suppression with Increased Intertape Spacing
The magnetization of ReBCO tape stacks and tape stack cables in high magnetic fields (up to 30 T) are not commonly reported. Here we report magnetization measurements of tape stack cables in magnetic fields up to 30 T at 4.2 K. We observed that flux jumps, commonly relegated to low field regimes for single tapes, persisted up to 17 T in tape stacks, an effect which could have substantial technological relevance for high field applications including fusion devices or accelerator magnets. On the other hand, with the use of small spacers, we could suppress flux jump behavior, in some cases eliminating jumps entirely. Our findings provide critical insights for the optimization of designs for ReBCO cables for high-field applications, including fusion magnets and particle accelerators.10.13039/100000015 – U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Division of High Energy Physics (Grant Number: DE-SC0011721) (MDS, TG, EWC, MM)National Science Foundation Cooperative (Grant Number: DMR-2128556) (JJ, ESC)10.13039/100012892 – National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (JJ, ESC)10.13039/100023043 – State of Florida (JJ, ESC

Ensnared in the Thorns of Psychiatry: Experiences of a Black girl in an American Psychiatric Ward—An Autoethnography
Since the corrosive inception of the United States, Black Americans have been duplicitously subjected to carceral violence; carceral institutions act as epicenters of state surveillance, isolation, violence, control, and labor. The assertion that American psychiatric wards are carceral may appear to be disillusioned, however the evidence of their carcerality lies within the very architectural designs of these institutions. Both the design and control systems of American psychiatric wards are akin to those of America’s notoriously abusive prisons. Psychiatric institutions have historically been used to intimidate, subjugate and oppress Black American communities. Psychiatric institutionalization acts as a method of mass incarceration to disappear populations. Due to harmful and institutionalized ideologies such as carceral sanism, ableism, racism, and sexism, the abusive experiences of institutionalized Black patients are frequently unheard or silenced and thereby unaddressed. This paper employs autoethnography to analyze, examine, articulate, and derive meaning from my experience, as a young Black woman, in an American psychiatric ward. Furthermore, this paper strives to bring visibility to a largely silenced issue, psychiatric violence, that is undergirded by a tenacious web of oppression. No embargoAcademic Major: Medical AnthropologyAcademic Major: Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studie
Rock House Nature Center
Earth and Beyond: 1st Place (The Ohio State University Denman Undergraduate Research
Forum)The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) partnered with Ohio State Design to develop an integrated response to discourage park visitors from littering. The result is a proposed nature center at the Rock House trailhead in Hocking Hills. The project aims to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable behaviors among park visitors through nature-centered learning.
The Rock House Nature Center design features interactive displays and play areas that mimic the surrounding landscape. The center aims to deepen park visitors’ appreciation for nature by educating them about the area’s wildlife, geology, and history, while visually illustrating the environmental impact of littering. Through this, the nature center fosters a stronger connection between visitors and the natural world, inspiring more sustainable behaviors.
Through the integration of play, education, and natural design, the Rock House Nature Center aims to inspire visitors to develop a deeper appreciation for the environment. By raising awareness of how individual behaviors can impact the world around us, the project seeks to encourage sustainable practices that extend beyond the park visit, fostering lasting environmental stewardship.Ohio Department of Natural ResourcesNo embargoAcademic Major: Industrial Desig
