Extended Connectivity Fingerprints as a Chemical Reaction Representation for Enantioselective Organophosphorus-Catalyzed Asymmetric Reaction Prediction

    No full text
Predicting the outcomes of organic reactions using data-driven approaches aids in the acceleration of research. In laboratory-scale experiments, only a small number of reaction data can be accessed for machine learning model construction, where reaction representations play a pivotal role in the success of model construction. Nevertheless, representation comparison for a small data set is not adequate. Herein, focusing on the enantioselectivity of phosphoric-acid-catalyzed reactions, various two-dimensional and three-dimensional reaction representations (descriptors) were compared. Overall, the concatenated form of the extended connectivity fingerprints showed the best predictive capability for the two types of data sets: high-throughput experimental data and manually collected literature data sets. Furthermore, highlighting the substructure contribution to the prediction outcome was shown to be informative for guiding catalyst development.journal articl

Aspect-based Analysis of Advertising Appeals for Search Engine Advertising

    No full text
Writing an ad text that attracts people and persuades them to click or act is essential for the success of search engine advertising. Therefore, ad creators must consider various aspects of advertising appeals (A3) such as the price, product features, and quality. However, products and services exhibit unique effective A3 for different industries. In this work, we focus on exploring the effective A3 for different industries with the aim of assisting the ad creation process. To this end, we created a dataset of advertising appeals and used an existing model that detects various aspects for ad texts. Our experiments demonstrated %through correlation analysis that different industries have their own effective A3 and that the identification of the A3 contributes to the estimation of advertising performance.conference pape

Cooperative path-following control of a remotely operated underwater vehicle for human visual inspection task

    No full text
In recent years, significant attention has been paid to remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) in the performance of underwater tasks, such as the inspection and maintenance of the underwater infrastructure. The workload of ROV operators tends to be high, even for the skilled operators. Therefore, assistance methods for the operators are desired. This study focuses on a task in which a human operator controls an underwater robot to follow a certain path while visually inspecting objects in the vicinity of the path. In such a task, it is desirable to achieve the speed of trajectory control manually because the visual inspection is performed by a human operator. However, to allocate resources to visual inspection, it is desirable to minimize the workload on the path-following by assisting with the automatic control. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop a cooperative path-following control method that achieves the above-mentioned task by expanding a robust path-following control law of non-holonomic wheeled vehicles. To simplify this problem, we considered a path-following and visual objects recognition task in a two-dimensional plane. We conducted an experiment with participants (n = 16) who completed the task using the proposed method and manual control. We compared results in terms of object recognition success rate, tracking error, completion time, attention distribution, and workload. The results showed that both the path-following errors and workload of the participants were significantly smaller with the proposed method than with manual control. In addition, subjective responses demonstrated that operator attention tended to be allocated to object recognition rather than robot operation tasks with the proposed method. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed cooperative path-following control method.journal articl

Development and single-particle analysis of hybrid extracellular vesicles fused with liposomes using viral fusogenic proteins

    No full text
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have potential biomedical applications, particularly as a means of transport for therapeutic agents. There is a need for rapid and efficient EV-liposome membrane fusion that maintains the integrity of hybrid EVs. We recently described Sf9 insect cell-derived EVs on which functional membrane proteins were presented using a baculovirus-expression system. Here, we developed hybrid EVs by membrane fusion of small liposomes and EVs equipped with baculoviral fusogenic proteins. Single-particle analysis of EV-liposome complexes revealed controlled introduction of liposome components into EVs. Our findings and methodology will support further applications of EV engineering in biomedicine.journal articl

Exploring Relationships Between Tweet Numbers and Over-the-counter Drug Sales for Allergic Rhinitis: Retrospective Analysis

    No full text
Background: Health-related social media data are increasingly being used in disease surveillance studies. In particular, surveillance of infectious diseases such as influenza has demonstrated high correlations between the number of social media posts mentioning the disease and the number of patients who went to the hospital and were diagnosed with the disease. However, the prevalence of some diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, cannot be estimated based on the number of patients alone. Specifically, individuals with allergic rhinitis typically self-medicate by taking over-the-counter (OTC) medications without going to the hospital. Although allergic rhinitis is not a life-threatening disease, it represents a major social problem because it reduces people’s quality of life, making it essential to understand its prevalence and people’s motives for self-medication behavior. Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between the number of social media posts mentioning the main symptoms of allergic rhinitis and the sales volume of OTC rhinitis medications in Japan. Methods: We collected tweets over 4 years (from 2017 to 2020) that included keywords corresponding to the main nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis: “sneezing,” “runny nose,” and “stuffy nose.” We also obtained the sales volume of OTC drugs, including oral medications and nasal sprays, for the same period. We then calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient between time series data on the number of tweets per week and time series data on the sales volume of OTC drugs per week. Results: The results showed a much higher correlation (r=0.8432) between the time series data on the number of tweets mentioning “stuffy nose” and the time series data on the sales volume of nasal sprays than for the other two symptoms. There was also a high correlation (r=0.9317) between the seasonal components of these time series data. Conclusions: We investigated the relationships between social media data and behavioral patterns, such as OTC drug sales volume. Exploring these relationships can help us understand the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and the motives for self-care treatment using social media data, which would be useful as a marketing indicator to reduce the number of out-of-stocks in stores, provide (sell) rhinitis medicines to consumers in a stable manner, and reduce the loss of sales opportunities. In the future, in-depth investigations are required to estimate sales volume using social media data, and future research could investigate other diseases and countries.journal articl

Terminating Grid Exploration with Myopic Luminous Robots

    No full text
We investigate the terminating grid exploration for autonomous myopic luminous robots. Myopic robots mean that they can observe nodes only within a certain fixed distance, and luminous robots mean that they have light devices that can emit colors. First, we prove that, in the semi-synchronous and asynchronous models, three myopic robots are necessary to achieve the terminating grid exploration if the visible distance is one. Next, we give fourteen algorithms for the terminating grid exploration in various assumptions of synchrony (fully-synchronous, semi-synchronous, and asynchronous models), visible distance, the number of colors, and a chirality. Six of them are optimal in terms of the number of robots.journal articl

In recent years, the shortage of caregivers and "care fatigue" among home caregivers have become serious problems, and the introduction of care robots that can take the place of humans for touch care is expected. Prior research dealing with care by care robots instead of humans includes studies on care using multimodal interaction. However, these studies have not investigated in detail the "human-like way" of stroking while talking. In this study, I will analyze the "talking and stroking behavior" with the goal of modeling the "human-like stroking behavior" and applying the model to robots.technical repor
