Local Structure Analysis on Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia by X-ray Fluorescence Holography

    No full text
Y and Zr Kα X-ray fluorescence holography measurements were carried out on a single crystal of yttria-stabilized zirconia with 13 mol% of yttria at room temperature to investigate the local structures around the impurity Y and host Zr atoms. Around the central Y atom, the images of the surrounding Zr/Y atoms are seen as a face-centered-cubic (fcc) sub-lattice. Thus, the impurity Y atoms are sure to be replaced with the Zr atoms as expected earlier. In addition, strong images are also observed, by which some of the Y atoms are located at the interstitial positions at the center of the fcc lattice. The atomic images around the central Zr atom are very weak, indicating large lattice distortions around the Zr atom. Some images outside of the ideal fcc lattice indicate that the local structures around the Zr atoms are similar to the original pure monoclinic ZrO2, and some of them would be rotated due probably to the interstitial doping of the impurity Y atoms.conference pape

An Exploration of npm Package Co-Usage Examples from Stack Overflow: A Case Study

    No full text
Third-party package usage has become a common practice in contemporary software development. Developers often face different challenges, including choosing the right libraries, installing errors, discrepancies, setting up the environment, and building failures during software development. The risks of maintaining a third-party package are well known, but it is unclear how information from Stack Overflow (SO) can be useful. This paper performed an empirical study to explore npm package co-usage examples from SO. From over 30,000 SO question posts, we extracted 2,100 posts with package usage information and matched them against the 217,934 npm library package. We find that, popular and highly used libraries are not discussed as often in SO. However, we can see that the accepted answers may prove useful, as we believe that the usage examples and executable commands could be reused for tool support.journal articl

Operant conditioning, which combines punishment and reward, is a method to promote behavioral change. Based on this method, a previous study proposed tsundere interaction, which combines cold and kind behaviors by an agent that the receiver likes. In this paper, we investigated the relationship between the dominant and submissive personalities of regular customers and their motivation to work after receiving tsundere interaction from the staff of a maid cafe that uses tsundere professionally and 28 regular customers who have fondness for the staff. The results of the study showed that tsundere interaction was more effective in improving work motivation for those with less dominant personalities.technical repor

Identification of hand-foot syndrome from cancer patients’ blog posts: BERT-based deep-learning approach to detect potential adverse drug reaction symptoms

    No full text
Early detection and management of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is crucial for improving patients’ quality of life. Hand-foot syndrome (HFS) is one of the most problematic ADRs for cancer patients. Recently, an increasing number of patients post their daily experiences to internet community, for example in blogs, where potential ADR signals not captured through routine clinic visits can be described. Therefore, this study aimed to identify patients with potential ADRs, focusing on HFS, from internet blogs by using natural language processing (NLP) deep-learning methods. From 10,646 blog posts, written in Japanese by cancer patients, 149 HFS-positive sentences were extracted after pre-processing, annotation and scrutiny by a certified oncology pharmacist. The HFS-positive sentences described not only HFS typical expressions like “pain" or “spoon nail”, but also patient-derived unique expressions like onomatopoeic ones. The dataset was divided at a 4 to 1 ratio and used to train and evaluate three NLP deep-learning models: long short-term memory (LSTM), bidirectional LSTM and bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT). The BERT model gave the best performance with precision 0.63, recall 0.82 and f1 score 0.71 in the HFS user identification task. Our results demonstrate that this NLP deep-learning model can successfully identify patients with potential HFS from blog posts, where patients’ real wordings on symptoms or impacts on their daily lives are described. Thus, it should be feasible to utilize patient-generated text data to improve ADR management for individual patients.journal articl

Measuring concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine among Japanese internet users through search queries

    No full text
With the increasing availability of the COVID-19 vaccines, vaccination has been rapidly promoted globally as a countermeasure against the spread of COVID-19. In Japan, vaccination was first introduced in February 2021. However, the amount of concern towards vaccination differs between individuals, and topics of concern include adverse reactions and side effects. This study investigated attitudes toward vaccines or vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic across different Japanese prefectures, using Yahoo! JAPAN search queries. We first defined a vaccine concern index (VCI) by aggregating the search counts of vaccine-related queries from Yahoo! JAPAN users before examining VCI across all Japanese prefectures, accounting for gender and age. Our results demonstrated that VCI tended to be lower in more populated areas, and VCI was higher in their 20s to 40s than older people, especially in female users. Furthermore, there was a significant positive correlation (Spearman’s Rank correlation coefficient ρ = 0.60, p<0.001) between VCI and prefectural vaccination rate, suggesting that web searching of adverse vaccine reactions may precede actual vaccination. This could reflect the information-seeking behavior of individuals who are accepting of vaccinations.journal articl
