Creating PBL Courses that Value Student Feedback on Instruction
Get PDFPBL科目は講義科目よりも概して運営が難しい。本学の共通教育科目を受講する学生を対象にした調査では、実に三分の二の学生がPBL に対して悪い印象を持っていることが判明した。授業の運営に学生の反応が活かされていない。本稿では、学生のPBLに対する苦情に基づいてPBL の授業が失敗する要因を分析したうえで、改善のためには担当者とカリキュラムの運営組織が、学生による授業評価を重んじる必要があることを主張する。実質的な改善を行うには成否の明確な基準が必要であるため、PBL授業が失敗していると判断するための四つの指標を提唱する：（1）満足度が低い、（2）辛辣な苦情が一つでも出る、（3）フリーライダーが出る、（4）学生が課題をやらないことで担当者が怒る。一つでも当てはまる場合、その授業は早急な改善を必要とする。本稿で提示する内容を、担当者個人やカリキュラム運営組織が実施することで、PBL 教育の質が格段に向上するであろう。Problem-based learning (PBL) courses are typically more challenging to manage than traditional lecture courses. A survey of students enrolled in general education courses at Mie University revealed that two-thirds held a negative impression of PBL, largely due to the lack of responsiveness to student feedback. This article analyzes students’ complaints to identify factors which contribute to the failure of PBL courses. The author advocates for the prioritization of student evaluations of instruction by instructors and curriculum management organizations. To make substantial improvements, the author emphasizes the importance of clear criteria for identifying unsuccessful PBL courses. Four key indicators of a failing PBL course are proposed: (1) low overall satisfaction, (2) the reception of even a single harsh complaint, (3) the presence of students who do not pull their own weight in group activities, and (4) cases in which the instructor expresses anger over their students’ failure to complete assignments. If any of these conditions are met, immediate course improvement is essential. By implementing the recommendations outlined here, instructors and curriculum management organizations can significantly enhance the quality of PBL education.departmental bulletin pape

miR-200c-3p regulates a4 integrin-mediated T cell adhesion and migration
Get PDF三重大学博士(医学)application/pdfA microRNA miR-200c-3p is a regulator of epithelial-mesenchymal transition to control adhesion and migration of epithelial and mesenchymal cells. However, little is known about whether miR-200c-3p affects lymphocyte adhesion and migration mediated by integrins. Using TK-1 (a T lymphoblast cell) as a model of T cell, here we show that repressed expression of miR-200c-3p upregulated α4 integrin-mediated adhesion to and migration across mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1). Conversely, overexpression of miR-200c-3p downregulated α4 integrin-mediated adhesion and migration. Unlike in epithelial cells, miR-200c-3p did not target talin, a conformation activator of integrin, but, targeted E26-transformation-specifc sequence 1 (ETS1), a transcriptional activator of α4 integrin, in T cells. Treatment of the miR-200c-3p-low-expressing TK-1 cells that possessed elevated α4 integrin with ETS1 small interfering RNA (siRNA) resulted in the reversion of the α4 integrin expression, supporting that ETS1 is a target of miR-200c-3p. A potential proinfammatory immunemodulator retinoic acid (RA) treatment of TK-1 cells elicited a signifcant reduction of miR-200c-3p and simultaneously a marked increase in ETS1 and α4 integrin expression. An anti-infammatory cytokine TGF-β1 treatment elevated miR-200c-3p, thereby downregulating ETS1 and α4 integrin expression. These results suggest that miR-200c-3p is an important regulator of α4 integrin expression and functions and may be controlled by RA and TGF-β1 in an opposite way.
