Seeding a change in knowledge about, attitudes towards and perceptions of dating violence in Turkish prospective counselors: the effectiveness of a train-the-trainer prevention program
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a twelve-week train-the-trainer program on dating violence (DV) prevention which we called ‘Love is Beautiful without Violence’, deliver it to prospective counselors and assess its effectiveness concerning changing their knowledge about, attitudes towards and perceptions of DV. The study was implemented in Turkey, where the prevalence of DV is quite high and college/school-based prevention programs are very limited in research. We adopted a feminist perspective for developing the program, facilitating an anti-hierarchical, egalitarian and empowering group environment. Method: In Study 1, a pre-test/post-test control group design (n = 31 for experimental; n = 39 for control) was used, and in Study 2 (n = 35), a similar pre-test/post-test group design without a control group was employed. Results: One-way ANCOVAs in Study 1 showed significant changes in counselor candidates’ post-test scores in knowledge, attitudes and perceptions between the control and experimental groups. Repeated-measures t-tests in Study 2 replicated the results, showing significant post-test changes. Conclusion: The rights-based train-the-trainer program seems to offer an effective way to approach DV prevention by rejecting hierarchies, promoting equality, empowerment and interactivity, and utilizing material and technology in its design. We highly recommend replicating it with diverse samples of prospective and in-service counselors.WOS:0010961850000012-s2.0-85175978918Social Sciences Citation IndexUluslararası işbirliği yapılmayan - HAYIRKasımYÖK- 2022-23Eki
Analytical approaches in customer relationship management
This study examines the impact of analytical customer relationship management (aCRM) strategies, specifically the segmentation approach using RFM analysis and artificial learning methods, on customer satisfaction, revenue performance, and loyalty in businesses. The research adopts an approach that integrates data from both online and offline channels onto a single platform, providing a holistic view of customer behaviors. Combining the segmentation obtained through RFM analysis and artificial learning methods with timely campaigns has enhanced shopping opportunities for customers and increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. The use of aCRM as a strategic marketing and sales tool has enabled businesses to manage customer relationships more effectively. This paper contributes to the literature in this field by presenting in detail the advantages offered by aCRM, its application methods, and the results obtained.2-s2.0-85184668559Kası

Effects of machining on the acoustic and mechanical properties of jute and luffa biocomposites
After their production, biocomposite structures do not always have the final shape or dimensions required for their purpose, hence, they need machining. However, the effects of machining on the acoustic and mechanical properties of many biocomposites are still not well known. The effects of machining on the acoustic and mechanical properties of jute and luffa biocomposites are revealed in this chapter. To do this, the sound absorption coefficients (or SACs) and transmission losses (or TLs) of jute and epoxy and luffa and epoxy composite samples, with and without a turning process, are determined using the impedance tube method. The loss factors and Young’s moduli of the jute and epoxy and luffa and epoxy composite samples, with and without a milling process, are identified using experimental and theoretical modal analyses. The results show that, when the samples are machined, the sound absorption coefficients reduce by 3%-7%, the transmission loss levels increase by 6-11dB, and the damping levels and Young’s moduli reduce by 0.1%-0.5% and 3%-4%, respectively. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. A meta-analytic review of the association between theory of mind and aggression
Although the association between theory of mind (ToM) and aggression has been theorized, empirical findings have not revealed a clear link between these constructs. In the current meta-analytic review, we integrated findings from 83 studies (141 effect sizes) involving 41,650 participants from 18 countries to elucidate the association between ToM and aggression in typically developing children, adolescents, and adults. We found a significant negative association between ToM and aggression overall (r = −0.15). Moreover, each type and function of aggression were negatively associated with Theory of Mind (ToM). Bullying—a distinct form of aggression—was not associated with ToM. The strength of the association between overall aggression and ToM varied as a function of methodological variables: First, studies that used self-report questionnaires to measure ToM and aggression yielded the strongest effect sizes, compared to those that used task-based assessments or questionnaires completed by others (parents, teachers, peers). Second, there was a difference in the ToM measurement with the measures examining ToM with non-false belief understanding tasks yielding a stronger mean effect than those that focused exclusively on false-belief understanding. Third, the magnitude of the negative association was found to increase with participants' age, though significant negative associations between ToM and aggression held across the lifespan. These results point to the critical link between ToM and aggressive tendencies and suggest the value in implementing interventions to improve mental state understanding across the age range to foster positive social interactions.WOS:0011619488000012-s2.0-85177485564Review; Early AccessUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılan - EVETŞubatYÖK- 2023-24Kası

Validating psychometric classification of teachers' fraction arithmetic reasoning
National Science Foundation [DRL-0903411]The development of the Diagnosing Teacher's Multiplicative Reasoning (DTMR) Fractions survey was supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. DRL-0903411. The opinions expressed are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of NSFIn prior work, we fit the mixture Rasch model to item responses from a fractions survey administered to a nationwide sample of middle grades mathematics teachers in the United States. The mixture Rasch model located teachers on a continuous, unidimensional scale and fit best with 3 latent classes. We used item response data to generate initial interpretations of the reasoning characteristic of each latent class. Our results suggested increasing facility reasoning about fraction arithmetic from one class to the next. The present study contributes two further arguments for the validity of our initial interpretations. First, we administered the same survey to a new sample of future middle grades mathematics teachers before and after 20 weeks of instruction on multiplication, division, and fractions, and we found that from pretest to posttest future teachers transitioned from one latent class to another in ways consistent with increased proficiency in fraction arithmetic. Second, we interviewed 8 of the future teachers before and after the instruction and found that future teachers' reasoning during interviews was largely consistent with our original interpretation of the 3 latent classes. These results provide further support for our original interpretation of the mixture Rasch analysis, demonstrate the utility of our approach for capturing growth and change in future teachers' reasoning during teacher education coursework, and contribute innovative applications of psychometric models for surveying teachers' reasoning at scale.WOS:0009133913000012-s2.0-85146190901Social Sciences Citation IndexarticleUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılan - EVETŞubatYÖK - 2022-2

Making the Myths of Dating Violence Visible: Developing a New Scale and Testing Its Psychometrics Through Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Evidence
Myths refer to misperceptions, overgeneralizations, or ideas that most people believe in but do not necessarily reflect the truth. To date, research on the myths surrounding dating violence (DV) has not received much attention, most probably due to the lack of a validated measure. Thus, we developed a standardized measure to gauge DV myths and test its psychometrics. The instrument's design is based on three studies utilizing cross-sectional and longitudinal sets of data. In Study 1, in a sample of 259 emerging adults, predominantly college students, the explanatory factor analysis revealed a solid three-factor structure. In Study 2, in a separate sample of 330 emerging adults, primarily college students, we cross-validated the factor structure via confirmatory factor analysis. We also provided evidence for concurrent validity. In Study 3, we revealed that our newly developed scale had predictive validity among dating and non-dating emerging adults, mostly college students, via longitudinal data. Based on the findings from three studies, we can buoyantly announce that the Dating Violence Myths scale is a promising novel and standardized tool for measuring beliefs about DV. The cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence alludes to a need for DV myths to be debunked to reduce psychological DV attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors among emerging adults.WOS:0009347165000012-s2.0-8514842832836794858Social Sciences Citation IndexarticleUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılmayan - HAYIRŞubatYÖK - 2022-2
