Leadership Style: A Patient Outcome Make or Break of Care
Get PDFInquiry was cultivated by the immersion of Oncology patient care and dynamics within an externship and clinical experience. Observations were made regarding various team interactions, and leadership styles regarding the subsequential leadership care. It overall prompted the motivation to delve into further literature and research reviews. A PubMed systemic review journal “88% showed a positive or negative statistically significant correlation between leadership style and nurses’ job satisfaction to perform patient care. The transformational style had the greatest positive correlation in 9 out of 9 of cases” (Speechia, Cozzolino, Carini, et.al, 2021). The need for leadership transformation within the healthcare system has become a prevalent discussion within literature. Leadership plays a crucial role in overall patient outcomes in and out of the hospital system. Patient outcomes can influence the readmission rate, quality metrics of the hospital organization, as well as length of stay and reimbursement rates. In addition, outcomes can further be influenced as based upon the patient satisfaction survey results, relating to quality of care provided. The purpose of the integrative review is to further identify how leadership styles influence patient outcomes, patient experience, and nurse engagement regarding the overall hospital team framework. Furthermore, the integrative review will pay special attention to the oncology population. Question 1: How does nursing leadership styles and methods affect overall patient outcomes? Question 2: How does nursing leadership affect the care of oncology patients? The literature integrative review highlighted how each leadership style has an impact on how a patient improves or declines during hospitalization. There is an increase in patient satisfaction with transformational leadership. Furthermore, it was highlighted that nurses who adopted a new leadership style within their unit experienced increased quality improvement. When there is a lack of leadership, it increases the development of self-interests within nurses eliminating a team-based approach thus changing practices on a whole (Kok, et.al, 2022). Nurses are the driving force for transformational change and must be persistent. In addition to this, research highlighted how organization exhibit attitudes of above the need for change within leadership as an act of professionalism (Kok, et.all, 2022). Nurses who choose a rebel-like leadership behavior change are less invisible with actions thus increasing trust within the patient for improved outcomes. When relational leadership is used, there is decreased patient mortality and increased patient satisfaction. Overall, research showed that by adopting a transformational leadership approach it positively impacted the unit and decreased negativity regarding nurse dynamic, thus reducing patient morality and increasing job satisfaction between healthcare professionals (Wong, et.al, 2013). Regarding teamwork in nursing environments, there was found to be a decreased participation in change with collaboration thus negativity affecting patient care (Nene, 2024)
Effects of TENS on Chronic Lower Back Pain in the General Population: A Critically Appraised Topic
Get PDFClinical scenario: Chronic lower back pain (CLBP) affects approximately 70% of the population today.1 Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is often used for pain management of CLBP along with other treatments. However, the effect of TENS by itself is inconclusive. Clinical question: In the general population, what are the effects of TENS on chronic lower back pain? Summary of Key Findings: Patients that received TENS reported a decrease in perceived pain levels. Clinical bottom line: TENS was effective in the immediate pain relief of CLBP at a carrier frequency of 4KHz and an amplitude-modulation frequency of 100Hz. Additionally, it showed pain reduction for approximately 24 hours following treatment, therefore TENS provides short-term pain reduction. While AI-driven technologies such as video analysis, biometric wearables, and predictive modeling have been widely adopted in professional sports, their integration within collegiate athletics remains underexplored (Wang et al., 2024). Figure 1 illustrates AI’s role in processing data streams, while Figures 2 and 3 highlight AI-driven training, injury prediction, real-time performance forecast and decision-making frameworks. Despite increasing interest in AI applications in sports, limited research investigates how these tools are utilized in student-athlete training and competition. Understanding AI adoption among collegiate athletes is crucial for optimizing performance and ensuring equitable access to emerging technologies. Existing research primarily focuses on professional athletes, leaving a critical gap in AI adoption at the collegiate level. While some NCAA programs have implemented AI for player tracking and injury prevention, adoption varies significantly across institutions and sports disciplines (IBM Sports Analytics Report, 2023). This study aims to address this gap by evaluating AI adoption among Liberty University (LU) student-athletes, examining factors influencing accessibility, implementation, and perceived usefulness. By assessing AI application levels, this research bridges the divide between professional and collegiate AI integration, providing LU Athletics with data-driven insights for strategic decision-making. The study employs a survey-based primary data collection approach, gathering quantitative data from LU student-athletes to assess AI adoption trends, barriers, and facilitators. The research will analyze athlete perceptions of AI’s accessibility and effectiveness, contributing to a broader understanding of AI’s role in collegiate athletics. Findings will inform LU’s approach to AI integration, supporting the development of evidence-based strategies to enhance training efficiency, injury prevention, and athletic performance. Infant Mortality in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Public Health and Theological Perspectives
Get PDFInfant mortality remains a significant public health challenge globally, particularly in lower and middle-income regions such as Africa. Despite several global initiatives aimed at reducing infant mortality, it continues to disproportionately affect these regions, with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) being one of the countries with the highest rates. According to the United Nations Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation1, DRC ranks among the top ten countries worldwide in terms of infant mortality rates, with the eastern region, particularly South Kivu, contributing significantly to this crisis. This study aims to explore the various factors contributing to infant mortality in DRC and propose targeted interventions from both public health and biblical perspectives. To achieve this, a comprehensive literature review was conducted, drawing on sources from Google Scholar, EBSCO, PubMed, and the World Health Organization (WHO). This review examines key factors influencing infant mortality in DRC, including armed conflict, malnutrition, infectious diseases, poor maternal health, unsafe water, poverty, and lack of education. The high rates of infant mortality in DRC can be attributed to a range of factors, including ongoing armed conflict, malnutrition, infectious diseases, poor maternal health, unsafe water sources, and widespread poverty. These challenges are compounded by limited access to healthcare and education. Addressing infant mortality in DRC requires a multifaceted approach, focusing on strengthening healthcare systems, improving maternal education, expanding immunization programs, and promoting conflict resolution. Additionally, the need to integrate biblical imperatives of care and compassion into public health strategies is critical to achieving long-term solutions. Efforts to reduce infant mortality must involve not only health interventions but also a broader societal commitment to justice and equity

Prolonged inflammatory responses are linked to tissue damage and the development of various metabolic diseases that are prevalent in modern society, such as obesity, fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. Sex and Labor Trafficking in Cambodia
Get PDFHuman trafficking affects some forty-nine million men, women, and children, with twenty-nine million within the Asian and Pacific region trapped in a web of forced labor, sexual exploitation, and coerced marriage. Human trafficking is now one of the world’s most lucrative organized crimes, generating more than $150 billion a year. Southeast Asia is a particularly vulnerable region, where weak enforcement mechanisms, poverty, and cross-border mobility create fertile ground for trafficking networks. Cambodia has been designated as a tier 3 nation in this region by the U.S. Department of State due to widespread issues of labor and sex trafficking. Tier 3 is the harshest rating that the Department of State declares, which entails that the government does not fully comply with the minimum Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) standards and is not making significant efforts to do so. Vulnerable populations are targeted for forced labor in industries such as construction and agriculture, as well as exploitation within the sex trade. Cambodia’s geographic location and socio-economic challenges make it a critical case study for understanding the distinct drivers behind both forms of trafficking. The central question guiding this research is: How can Cambodia strengthen its anti-trafficking policies and combat the issue of human trafficking and its underpinning causes with enhanced cooperation with intergovernmental organizations? By focusing on the causation of labor and sex trafficking in Cambodia, this study aims to provide a tailored policy response that can better educate trafficking policies in Cambodia and educate an overlooked gap in the literature
Verify and Protect: Guarding Children from Online Pornography
Get PDFThe growing rate of children in the United States being exposed to pornography and its negative consequences on their development necessitate action to protect them from the evils of pornography. While federal and state governments have legal barriers surrounding pornography and obscenity, options remain for children to access pornographic content. Research suggests that more children are viewing pornography at younger ages, which has detrimental effects on their development and holistic well-being. Several policy options exist to mitigate pornography access to children, and this paper will specifically analyze options to be implemented by the state of Maryland, which could serve as a model for other states. Policy alternatives include implementing age verification laws using a government-issued ID (a driver’s license), mandating additional protective measures for school devices in Maryland, passing broadband legislation requiring companies to provide a pornography filter to internet services, or an outright ban on pornography. While each option has its merits and limitations, age verification laws are a necessary first step in protecting children online and ensuring they do not access pornographic or adult content.
