No full textMedia liberalization policies in Ghana and Nigeria has enabled a widespread expansion of Pentecostal media. Given these countries’ religious histories, this is an intriguing phenomenon. This paper discusses the Pentecostal groups’ use of mass media such as film, television, and radio to increase their audiences. Mass media Pentecostalism has driven the rapid growth of the religious movement in recent years. By examining different studies on the use and effects of Pentecostal programming in these countries, a clear connection can be seen between the availability and content of media, and the rapid growth of Pentecostal religion in both Ghana and Nigeria

No full textMany of Kenya’s vesper bat species (Vespertilionidae) are weakly distinguished from one another, resulting in uncertainty with field identification. Clear understanding of geographic variation is needed for applying currently available species names and determining the proposal of new names. I analyzed variation in cranial morphology using geometric morphometric analysis and quantified pelage color variation in the African house bat genus Scotophilus in order to examine species limits and morphological overlap among populations. These analyses identify diagnostic characters and range boundaries for these species and clarify the application of existing names to Kenyan bats

Examples of “non-places” are places of transit, such as an airport or a train station. How does Ogilvie Transportation Center accept or reject the traditional characteristics of a “non-place”? Is there a presence of the identity of Chicago in the space? By examining the landscape and material culture of the station, as well as how people use the space itself, the cultural identity of Ogilvie (although blurred with characteristics of a “non-place”) can be put back into focus with an anthropological awareness

No full textWe will explore the complex relationship between animals and humans, across cultures and historical periods, by analyzing some of our complex relationships with rats and dogs. In many cultural contexts, dogs and rats are seen as nuisances or pests. Additionally, these animals are used as tools for humans in scientific research and product development. Likewise, both rats and dogs are commonly served as food in numerous cultures. Nevertheless, at certain times in certain cultures, specifically in developed countries, humans have the luxury of enjoying and caring for these animals as pets. This ironic, confusing relationship between humans and rats and dogs demonstrates the inconsistency and uncertainty surrounding our relationships to animals in general
