U.S. Presidential Election Algorithmic Trading
No full textThe world of high finance is evolving at a faster pace than ever before, with the advancement of high frequency, and algorithmic trading being a major component of global financial markets. The aim of this project is to formulate and back-test our own algorithm based on a developed investment strategy. Our strategy itself is based on the idea that markets are inefficient. We implement an event-based strategy, trading only during times of presidential elections in the United States. The strategy itself, uses a mean reversion technique, that is implemented by technical analysis using long and short term price moving averages to exploit market inefficiency. Fundamental analysis was used to determine a buy-sell signal derived specifically by the financial services sector PE ratio average. Our presentation explores our investment philosophy, strategy, and back-testing results to see whether such a strategy can provide an investor with positive excess returns
New Chromium, Cobalt, and Nickel Thiophosphates by Ionothermal Synthesis
No full textThree new materials have been synthesized by the reaction of a metal, phosphorous, and sulfur powder in a liquid salt known as an ionic liquid. Ionic liquids are environmentally-friendly solvents used to make new compounds that cannot be made by other means. The elemental powder mixtures were combined with the ionic liquid, heated to various temperatures, and then slowly cooled. The products were crystalline structures that could be analyzed. The cobalt and chromium anions, [Co(Co(P3S8)2)2]4– and [Cr(P3S9)2]3–, are the first of their kind to be synthesized by these types of reactions. The nickel compound, [PMIM]2[Ni(P2S8)2], is the first example of a compound synthesized from a previously unexplored ionic liquid, PMIMBF4 (PMIM = 1-propyl-3-methyl-imidazolium)

A History of Hollywood’s Outsourcing Debate: Runaway Production
No full textThis book provides a critical history of runaway production from its origins in postwar Hollywood to its present uses in describing a global network of diverse television and film production communities. Through extensive archival research, Camille Johnson-Yale chronicles Hollywood’s postwar push for investment in European production markets as a means for supporting the economy of America’s wartime allies while also opening industry access to lucrative trade relationships, exotic locations, and inexpensive skilled labor. For Hollywood’s studio production labor, however, the story of runaway production documents the gradual loss of power over the means of television and motion picture production. Though the phrase has taken on several meanings over its expansive history, it is argued that runaway production has ultimately served as a powerful, metaphorical rallying cry for a labor community coming to terms with a globalizing Hollywood industry that increasingly functions as an exportable process and less as a defined, industrial place.https://publications.lakeforest.edu/faculty_books/1013/thumbnail.jp

Beginning with definitions of film noir and its international iterations, the book presents a history of the development of film noir and neo-noir in Argentina (from the 1940s to the present), as well as a technical, aesthetic, and socio-historical analysis of such recent Argentine neo-noir films as The Aura, The Secret in Their Eyes, and The German Doctor.
