High Speed Real-time Temperature Monitoring System inside Power Devices Package Using Infrared Radiation
2014 International Conference on Solid State Devices and Materials, September 8, 2014, Tsukuba International Congress Center, Ibaraki, JapanWe proposed high speed real-time temperature monitoring system using infrared radiation in order to analyse thermal behaviour inside power device packag-es. This system was able to monitor thermal distribution in the package and confirmed thermal transition in this area with time resolution of 10 ms and special resolution of 15μm. Accuracy of the measured temperature of each material with different infrared emissivity in the pack-age was ensured by calibration obtained experimentally
Current-carrying capacity of single layer cable using superconducting Bi-2223 tapes in a parallel magnetic field
It was theoretically shown by the authors that the current-carrying capacity of superconducting dc power cable can be enhanced by choosing a force-free configuration under a parallel magnetic field produced by the current flowing back in the outer shielding conductor. This was experimentally checked for a single layer cable using Bi-2223 tapes in an applied parallel magnetic field. It was found that the current-carrying capacity took on a peak value under the force-free condition for the total magnetic field, including the self-field. This shows that the proposed structure is suitable for practical dc power transmission. The possibility of the innovative dc superconducting power cable with multi-layers with higher current-carrying capacity is discussed
Human Tracking with Particle Filter Based on Locally Adaptive Appearance Model
In previous work, we proposed a human tracking algorithm based on the reliable appearance model (RAM). The RAM is a set of discriminative local image descriptors that is selected by a boosting algorithm to identify a target in the initial frame, and is employed as an observation model in a particle filter. As the appearance model of the target in human tracking constantly changes as time passes owing to changes in pose, it is necessary to adaptively update the RAM to improve the tracking accuracy. In this paper, if necessary, an insufficient local image descriptor for robust tracking is updated. In order to classify whether local image descriptors are suitable or not during tracking, a distance histogram corresponding to a local image descriptor is constructed. When the histogram indicates that the local image descriptor is lacking in tracking performance, then it is updated. The experimental results demonstrate that the adaptive appearance model successfully tracks sport players even when their pose often changes
Condons and Codes
In this paper we assemble a few ingredients that are remotely connected to each other, but governed by the rule of coding theory ([1], [12]) and formal language theory, i.e. cyclic codes and DNA codes. Our interest arose from the remark that there exist both linear and circular DNAs in higher living organisms. We state the theory of codes in a wide sense due to [1] in order to understand the circular DNAs while we state rudiments of formal language theory as a means to interpret genes. We hope this will be a starter for unifying two approaches depending on the theory of codes and that of formal language
Suitable Algorithm Associated with a Parameterization for the Three-Parameter Log-Normal Distribution
Associated with a parameterization for the three-parameter lognormal distribution, an algorithm was proposed by Komori and Hirose, which can find a local maximum likelihood (ML) estimate surely if it exists. Nevertheless, by Vera and Díaz-García it was shown that performance in finding a local ML estimate deteriorated by adopting the parameterization only and using other algorithm. In the present article, it will be shown that Komori and Hirose’s algorithm should be used for the parameterization. This work will also give MATLAB codes as a useful tool for the parameter estimation of the distribution
The high strength bolts and nuts are widely used in various fields. To ensure the structure
safety, a lot of special bolts and nuts were studied previously. In this paper, a slight pitch difference is
considered between the bolt and nut. Here, the pitch of the nut is αμm larger than the pitch of the bolt. The fatigue experiment is performed for three kinds of specimens with different levels of pitch difference. The obtained S-N curves show that the fatigue life is extended by about 1.5 times by introducing the suitable
pitch difference especially under the high stress amplitude. According to the detail investigation on the
fractured specimens, it is found that the fractured positions and the crack configuration are totally different by introducing the pitch difference. To find out the mechanism of the improvement of the fatigue strength, the finite element method is also applied to calculate the stress amplitude and mean stress at each bottom of bolt threads

Cyclic naphthalene diimide 1 bound to hybrid-type tetraplex DNA from 5′-AGGG(TTAGGG)3-3′ (K = 8.6 × 106 M−1) with 260-fold greater affinity than binding to a double stranded oligonucleotide consisting of 5′-GGG AGG TTT CGC-3′ and 3′-CCC TCC AAA GCG-5′ (nK = 3.3 × 104 M−1) with 0.5 μM of IC50 for telomerase activity
Photoluminescence Enhancement of β-FeSi2 Nanocrystals Controlled by Transport of Holes in Cu-doped n-type Si Substrates
International Conference and Summer School on Advanced Silicide Technology 2014, July 19–21, 2014, Tokyo, JapanWe have investigated PL behavior of β-FeSi2 nanocrystals controlled by transport of holes in Cu-doped n-type Si substrates. PL enhancement was observed and PCI-PL measurements revealed that PL enhancement was attributed to a transport process of holes with a larger time constant in Cu-doped n-Si substrate in which an interval trap process is controlled by Cu doping
