In this note, we indicate the coincidence as abstract groups of some point groups which belong to different molecular orbitals. This elucidates somewhat vague presentation in many existing textbooks on molecular orbitals, thus abridging between group theory and quantum chemistry

of their vital biological roles and remarkable therapeutic applications. Specially, Gquadruplex
DNA structures are a very interesting target because of promoter regions,
human telomeres and aptemers are closely associated with the genetic integrity, cell
proliferation, aging and cancer. Fundamental understanding of the interactions of smallmolecule
ligands or proteins with DNA sequences and their structural effect, binding
affinities, thermodynamic, kinetic and thermal stability are very crucial. This doctoral
thesis has uncovered the interaction studies of novel cyclic naphthalene diimide
derivatives (cNDIs, 1,2) & non-cyclic naphthalene diimide (NDI 3) with double stranded
DNA (dsDNA) such as calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA), poly[d(A-T)]2, or poly[d(G-C)]2
and G-quadruplexes DNA such as human telomere DNA (a-core & a-coreTT), promoter
region’s DNA (c-kit & c-myc) and thrombin-binding aptamer (TBA).
Firstly, I have studied the interaction of newly synthesized cNDIs 1,2 with various
types of dsDNA to observe the cyclic linker chain effect binding to dsDNA. Secondly, I
have studied the interaction of 2 with various types of G-quadruplexes DNA to observe
the specific binding to G-quadruplexes DNA structure. I have studied the interaction of
NDI 3 with dsDNA and G-quadruplexes DNA as a control.
The interaction of three different types of dsDNA and seven different types G-rich
oligonucleotides studied with newly synthesize 1,2 and NDI 3 by the physicochemical
and biochemical method such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, Circular dichroism (CD)
spectroscopy, Topoisomerase I assay, Stopped-flow kinetics, Thermal melting studies,
TRAP assay and FRET-melting assay experiments.
The binding studies between cNDIs 1,2 and DNA duplexes showed affinities in
the order of 105?106 M-1 using UV-Vis spectroscopic titration with a stoichiometry of one
cNDI molecule covered four DNA base pairs as a bis-threading intercalation mode of
binding. The induced CD signal was observed on cNDIs chromophore upon the addition
of CT-DNA. Topo I isomerase assay showed that 2 can unwind circular dsDNA, it’s also
indicated the bis-intercalation binding of cNDIs with dsDNA. According to the van’t Hoff
and Gibbs free energy equation, thermodynamic parameters (ΔG, ΔH, and ΔS) indicated
that entropy-dependent hydrophobic and endothermic interactions played a major role in
the reaction between cNDIs and CT-DNA. Stopped-flow analysis showed that 2 slowly
dissociate from GC base pairs. The salt ion effect analysis showed that upon the
increasing salt concentration reduced cNDIs binding with dsDNA. Compound 1 showed
much slower dissociation, a higher binding selectivity and a more entropically favorable
interaction to dsDNA than 2 because of its longer linker chain.
The binding interactions between G-quadruplex DNA structure and cNDIs
showed the affinities in the range of 106?107 M?1 orders with a 2:1 stoichiometry.
Compound 2 showed highest binding affinities to human telomere a-core G-quadruplex
DNA with 270 times selectivity than dsDNA. The CD spectra of G-quadruplex DNA
changed upon the addition of cNDIs suggesting the end staking interaction of cNDIs on
G-tetrad plane. The thermal melting studies indicated that 2 stabilized to G-quadruplexes
DNA with preference of human telomeric a-core TT. The FRET melting assay also
showed that 2 highly stabilized with F21T which is an ancestor of human telomere G-
quadruplex DNA. Compound 2 revealed an effective inhibitor against telomerase activity
with an IC50 value of 0.9 μM.
Briefly, the finding of this doctoral thesis will contribute to generate new idea to
design and development suitable DNA binding ligands. The interesting data in the chapter
4 indicated that 2 is the suitable candidate drug target to G-quadruplexes DNA, it deserves
for further investigation with cancer cell line
Study on Shrinkage Deformation of Food in Microwave-Vacuum Drying
Selected Papers from the 19th International Drying Symposium (IDS 2014), Part 2Drying shrinkage is an important problem in the food industry. Focusing on microwave vacuum drying, we study the mechanism of deformation due to shrinkage of the food structure. A relationship between the strain and the water content is introduced for a finite element analysis. The temperature and water distributions are obtained by a finite difference method with the use of a variable permeability and diffusion coefficient depending on the water content. Comparisons with experimental data on radishes, carrots, and tofu indicate that the present model can express the deformation as well as the water content inside the materials
Detecting Erase Strokes from Online Handwritten Notes using Support Vector Classification

With the AirTransNote system, a teacher can immediately share student notes with the class using a projection screen to enhance group learning. However, students tend to hesitate to share their notes, particularly when the notes contain embarrassing mistakes. Nevertheless, teachers want to focus on real mistakes students make while learning. We introduce an erase stroke detecting method for the student note-sharing system to reduce students’ discomfort regarding sharing mistakes, as well as to assist the teacher in finding mistakes. We collected and manually labeled free-style handwritten student notes. Based on the labeled notes, we extracted features for the erase symbols and deleted strokes. We have tested support vector machine techniques for classifying erase symbols and deleted strokes from typical handwritten notes
Structural and Compositional Changes of Bamboo fibers during Super-Heated Steam Treatment and Thereby Composite Preparation
Structural and compositional changes of bamboo fibers, which were prepared through super-heated steam (SHS) treatment at normal pressure and fine grinding, were investigated by infra-red spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, viscosity-average molecular weight (Mv) measurement, and X-ray fluorescence analysis. SHS-treated Moso bamboo resulted in preferential decomposition of hemicellulose without any decrease in the Mv of cellulose crystalline. The SHS-treated bamboo was easily ground to obtain various short bamboo fibers (sBF) suitable for conventional melt processing of composites with polypropylene. The sBF showed good melt-processability and contributed to the mechanical performance of the composites moldings, resulting in 290% increases in flexural modulus
Quantification Method of Vascular Conditions by Capillaroscopy
In this study, we proposed and examined the evaluation method for image processing of capillary vessels in the fingertips. Objectification of an image has many problems; especially, it is difficult to evaluate meandering of a blood vessel. Therefore we extracted the vessel shape from a clinical image, and simplified it to numeric data representing the characteristics of the shape. Using clinical illustration of the nailfold capillary, we investigated the characteristics of the nailfold capillary by feature point extraction techniques. We created a simplified program that automatically calculates the parameters of fingertip blood vessels from clinical images. This technique may be potentially useful to evaluate the status of capillaries after intake of supplements, by measuring the parameters of the microcapillary shape
Mobile Activity Recognition for a Whole Day: Recognizing Real Nursing Activity with a Big Dataset
2015 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp 2015), Sep. 7-11, Grand Front Osaka in Umeda, Osaka, JapanIn this paper, we provide a real nursing data set for mobile activity recognition that can be used for supervised machine learning, and big data combined the patient medical records and sensors attempted for 2 years, and also propose a method for recognizing activities for a whole day utilizing prior knowledge about the activity segments in a day. Furthermore, we demonstrate data mining by applying our method to the bigger data with additional hospital data. In the proposed method, we 1) convert a set of segment timestamps into a prior probability of the activity segment by exploiting the concept of importance sampling, 2) obtain the likelihood of traditional recognition methods for each local time window within the segment range, and, 3) apply Bayesian estimation by marginalizing the conditional probability of estimating the activities for the segment samples. By evaluating with the dataset, the proposed method outperformed the traditional method without using the prior knowledge by 25.81% at maximum by balanced classification rate. Moreover, the proposed method significantly reduces duration errors of activity segments from 324.2 seconds of the traditional method to 74.6 seconds at maximum.
