Fundamental Issues of Concept Mapping Relevant to Discipline-Based Education: A Perspective of Manufacturing Engineering
This article addresses some fundamental issues of concept mapping relevant to
discipline-based education. The focus is on manufacturing knowledge representation from the
viewpoints of both human and machine learning. The concept of new-generation manufacturing
(Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, and connected factory) necessitates learning factory (human
learning) and human-cyber-physical systems (machine learning). Both learning factory and
human-cyber-physical systems require semantic web-embedded dynamic knowledge bases, which are
subjected to syntax (machine-to-machine communication), semantics (the meaning of the contents),
and pragmatics (the preferences of individuals involved). This article argues that knowledge-aware
concept mapping is a solution to create and analyze the semantic web-embedded dynamic knowledge
bases for both human and machine learning. Accordingly, this article defines five types of knowledge,
namely, analytic a priori knowledge, synthetic a priori knowledge, synthetic a posteriori knowledge,
meaningful knowledge, and skeptic knowledge. These types of knowledge help find some rules
and guidelines to create and analyze concept maps for the purposes human and machine learning.
The presence of these types of knowledge is elucidated using a real-life manufacturing knowledge
representation case. Their implications in learning manufacturing knowledge are also described.

In this research deep learning by fully connected neural networks is applied to predict power output of photovoltaic power generation in Hokkaido. A new prediction method is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by some examples
Investigation of strain redistribution mechanism in α titanium by image-based crystal plasticity analysis
Mechanisms of strain localization and localized activation of slip systems in α titanium were investigated using a crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) method. A microscopic image of polycrystalline α titanium was obtained by electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD), and the data was converted from the microscopic image into the geometric model for the CPFE analysis. The uniaxial tensile deformation of the model was numerically reproduced by the CPFE method employing a dislocation density based constitutive equation. The results showed that the strain distribution corresponds well with that obtained by the experiment when the ratio of critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) employed in the numerical simulation is basal:prismatic ⟨a⟩:1st-pyramidal ⟨a⟩:1st-pyramidal ⟨c + a⟩:2nd-pyramidal ⟨c + a⟩ = 1.0:1.0:1.3:2.0:2.0. Next, numerical simulations were performed by changing the ratio of CRSS among the slip systems but keeping all other conditions the same as those of the above uniaxial tensile analysis. The results showed that strain redistribution typically occurs between hard and soft regions with high and low CRSSs for the primary slip systems; this redistribution resulted in a localized higher strain and activation of slip systems. However, localized activation of slip systems was observed even in slip systems with higher CRSS; the mechanism could be explained by the strain redistribution in the tensile direction.journal articl

Reinforcement Learning using Fully Connected Neural Networks in Recommender System
従来研究では,推薦システムを表現するための確率モデルとしてマルコフ決定過程が採用されている.他方,多くの分野において,ニューラルネットワークを用いた強化学習方法が提案されている.しかし,推薦システムにおけるニューラルネットワークを用いた強化学習方法は提案されていない.そこで,本研究では,マルコフ決定過程の真のパラメータが未知の仮定のもとで推薦システムにおける全結合ニューラルネットワークを用いた強化学習方法を提案する.提案方法では顧客の性質を表現するために顧客の履歴情報を利用する.シミュレーションによって提案方法の有効性を示す.シミュレーション結果では,提案方法の出力が最適解と一致した.[ENG]
Markov decision processes are applied to recommender system in previous research. Reinforcement learning methods using neural networks have been proposed in many fields. But a reinforcement learning method using neural networks has not been proposed in recommender system. In this research we propose a reinforcement learning method using fully connected neural networks in recommender system under the condition that the true parameters of Markov decision processes are unknown. The proposed method uses historical data of customers to represent customers' properties. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by some simulations. The output of the proposed method is equal to the optimal solution in the simulation result.journal articl
INFLUENCE OF ICE JAM AND RIVER NARROWING IN KENUFUCHI RIVER
On 9th March, 2018, due to unusual rainfall and temperature rise, ice jam occurred in the Kenufuchi River which has never been seen before. In the future, it is foreseen that water disaster will become more frequent with climate change, and rivers where ice jam occurs in Hokkaido will increase. However, ice jam has few observation cases, and its mechanism is not sufficiently elucidated. In order to clarify the occurrence factors of ice jam for the Kenufuchi River, the authors conducted a calculation of river ice variation. As a result, it was found that ice jam occurred due to increase in temperature and increase in discharge. Furthermore, river ice is easily formed because the flow velocity decreases in floor stop installed in the KP 7.1, and ice jam occurs meandering section. In consideration of the influence of river narrowing, it was found that river ice was formed thicker and the scale of ice jam increased.journal articl

積雪比表面積(SSA)を光学的手法(例えば IceCube などの市販装置)で測定する際,場合によっては試料を専用容器にタンピング(締固め)する場合がある.この時,積雪粒子が壊れたりくっついたりして SSAが変化する可能性がある.本研究では,タンピングによる SSA の変化について,ガス吸着式装置(BET 装置)および IceCube を用いて調べた.また一方では,IceCube の SSA 値に及ぼす試料の含水効果について,ガス吸着式装置による SSA 値と比較し考察した.journal articl
Measurement of specific surface area of fresh solid precipitation particles in heavy snowfall regions of Japan
In countries like Japan, particular solid precipitation particles (PPs), such as unrimed PPs and graupel, often form a weak layer in snow, which triggers slab avalanches. An understanding of weak PP layers is therefore essential for avalanche prevention authorities to design a predictive model for slab avalanches triggered by those layers. Specific surface area (SSA) is a parameter that could characterize the physical properties of PPs. The SSAs of solid PPs in Nagaoka – a city in Japan experiencing the heaviest snowfall in the country – were measured for four winters (from 2013/2014 to 2016/2017). More than 100 SSAs of PP were measured during the study period using the gas absorption method. The measured SSA values range from 42 to 153 m2 kg−1. Under melting conditions, PPs showed comparatively smaller values. Unrimed and slightly rimed PPs exhibited low SSA, whereas heavily rimed PPs and graupel exhibited high SSA. The degree of PP riming depends on the synoptic meteorological conditions. Based on the potential of weak PP layer formation with respect to the degree of riming of PPs, the results indicate that SSA is a useful parameter for describing the characteristics of PP, and consequently predicting avalanches triggered by weak PP layers. The study found that the values of SSA strongly depend on wind speed (WS) and wet-bulb temperature (Tw) on the ground. SSA increases with increase in WS and decreases with increase in Tw. An equation to empirically estimate the SSA of fresh PPs in Nagaoka using WS and Tw was established. The equation successfully reproduced the fluctuation of SSA. The SSA equation, along with the meteorological data, is an efficient first step toward describing the development of weak PP layers in the snow cover models.journal articl
中国・新疆ウイグル自治区における伝統的発酵食品中の乳酸菌の機能性
北見工業大学博士(工学)In this study, the author collected traditional fermented dairy products from several pastoral area of Xinjiang, China. Nineteen lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from kurt, cheeses, fermented camel’s milk, koumiss, and other dairy products and identified by 16S rDNA sequencing analysis. Antibacterial activity of cell free supernatants (CFS) of fermented LAB against bacterial pathogens was determined by agar well diffusion method, indicating that the supernatants were found to have potent antibacterial activity for health care.
Eleven isolates of Lactobacillus and eight of Enterococcus were identified as belonging to 7 validated species, L. plantarum, E. hirae, E. faecium, E. lactis, L. casei, L. zeae, and E. lactis. Among them, L. plantarum, L. zeae, and E. hirae lactic acid bacteria (99% homology) were found to have high antibacterial activity (6-9 mm clean zone) against E. coli at neutral pH, suggesting that the antibacterial activity was originated by antibacterial peptides. These lactic acid bacteria were cultured in large scale, and then antibacterial peptides were isolated.
In our laboratory, several lactic acid bacteria were isolated from a traditional Mongolian Airag and identified some lactic acid bacteria. Two lactic acid bacteria, L. hilgardii and L. diolivorans, were found to have high antibacterial and proteolytic activities. Therefore, in this thesis, in order to increase the nutritional value of potato pulp, which is discarded without being effectively utilized in starch production, as a livestock feed, a fermentation study using L. diolivorans lactic acid bacteria was conducted.
The moisture content of the potato pulp silage was remained 822 g/kg before and after ensiling. After drying for 48 h at 60°C and subsequently for an additional 4 h at 105°C, the moisture content was reduced to 82–84 g/kg. The protein content in the silage increased from an initial concentration of 39 to 57 g/kg and 58 g/kg for L. lactis and L. diolivorans inoculations, respectively. The NDF content decreased slightly from 363 to 360 g/kg (L. lactis) and 354 g/kg (L. diolivorans) after inoculations. Similarly, ADF content showed a small decrease from 348 to 345 g/kg and 325 g/kg for L. lactis and L. diolivorans inoculations, respectively. The soluble sugar content increased roughly by 2 folds in both treatments. The lactic acid content significantly increased from 2 to 52 g/kg (L. lactis) and 50 g/kg (L. diolivorans) after ensiling, whereas, toxic butyric acid was not detected with either treatment. These results suggest that the inoculation of potato pulp with L. lactis or L. diolivorans increases the quality and nutrition of potato pulp as silage. In particular, L. diolivorans is an efficient inoculant because it produces antibacterial peptides that prevent the increase of saprophyte in silage.doctoral thesi
Improving Basic Natural Language Processing Tools for the Ainu Language
Ainu is a critically endangered language spoken by the native inhabitants of northern Japan. This paper describes our research aimed at the development of technology for automatic processing of text in Ainu. In particular, we improved the existing tools for normalizing old transcriptions, word segmentation, and part-of-speech tagging. In the experiments we applied two Ainu language dictionaries from different domains (literary and colloquial) and created a new data set by combining them. The experiments revealed that expanding the lexicon had a positive impact on the overall performance of our tools, especially with test data unrelated to any of the training sets used.journal articl
