Optimizing 3D Printed Metallic Object’s Postprocessing: A Case of Gamma-TiAl Alloys
Gamma-TiAl (
-TiAl) alloys can be used in high-end products relevant to the aerospace,
defense, biomedical, and marine industries. Fabricating objects made of
-TiAl alloys needs an
additive manufacturing process called Electron Beam Melting (EBM) or other similar processes
because these alloys are difficult-to-cut materials. An object fabricated by EBM exhibits poor surface
finish and must undergo postprocessing. In this study, cylindrical specimens were fabricated by
EBM and post-processed by turning at different cutting conditions (cutting speed, depth of cut, feed
rate, insert radius, and coolant flowrate). The EBM conditions were as follows: average powder
size 110 m, acceleration voltage 60 kV, beam current 10 mA, beam scanning speed 2200 mm/s, and
beam focus offset 0.20 mm. The surface roughness and cutting force were recorded for each set of
cutting conditions. The values of the cutting conditions were set by the L36 Design of Experiment
approach. The effects of the cutting conditions on surface roughness and cutting force are elucidated
by constructing the possibility distributions (triangular fuzzy numbers) from the experimental data.
Finally, the optimal cutting conditions to improve the surface finish of specimens made of
-TiAl
alloys are determined using the possibility distributions. Thus, this study’s outcomes can be used to
develop intelligent systems for optimizing additive manufacturing processesjournal articl
Carbon Isotope Fractionation during the Formation of CO2 Hydrate and Equilibrium Pressures of 12CO2 and 13CO2 Hydrates
Knowledge of carbon isotope fractionation is needed in order to discuss the formation and dissociation of naturally occurring CO2 hydrates. We investigated carbon isotope fractionation during CO2 hydrate formation and measured the three-phase equilibria of 12CO2–H2O and 13CO2–H2O systems. From a crystal structure viewpoint, the difference in the Raman spectra of hydrate-bound 12CO2 and 13CO2 was revealed, although their unit cell size was similar. The δ13C of hydrate-bound CO2 was lower than that of the residual CO2 (1.0–1.5‰) in a formation temperature ranging between 226 K and 278 K. The results show that the small difference between equilibrium pressures of ~0.01 MPa in 12CO2 and 13CO2 hydrates causes carbon isotope fractionation of ~1‰. However, the difference between equilibrium pressures in the 12CO2–H2O and 13CO2–H2O systems was smaller than the standard uncertainties of measurement; more accurate pressure measurement is required for quantitative discussion.journal articl
寒冷地河川における水深上昇を考慮した 解氷時期推定手法の開発
It is important to estimate the timing of the ice jam before it occurs. This study's aim is the development
of break-up period estimation method that uses easily available meteorological data as an input value,
focusing on the break-up that occurs before the ice jam phenomenon. The break-up phenomenon was newly
summarized based on the field observation. We constructed a computational model that reproduces the
phenomenon. This means that the temperature rises and the snow melts, and this snowmelt water and
rainwater flow into the river, increasing the water depth. The peak value of the calculated water depth
appeared before the ice jam. This result indicates that countermeasures can be prepared before ice jam
occurs. If you enter the predicted value of the weather, you can estimate in advance.journal articl
