Simulation Model for Solar Car (3)
publisherAerodynamic drag accounts for a large portion of the total resistive force when the solar car is running in the race. It is a significant power loss at any speed above 40 km/h. The Study for Available Thermal Power Generation on HEMS
publisherIn recent days, energy harvesting technology is remarked all over the world. There are many kinds of Energy harvesting, for example, vibration power generation, solar power generation, thermal power generation and electro-magnetic power generation. So we are studying for many kinds of them. Especially thermal electric generation is easy to generate power for its simple construction. And it can be installed into various constructions. Bi-Te Peltier element can generate electric power at gradually low temperature. Then we have focused thermal electric power generation using Peltier element. But generated power is very low under low temperature gradient condition. So we have designed to get much temperature gradient in a small size Pelter element. Heat sync is so helpful for that object. We have clarified the degree of validity of attaching heat sync to the Peltier element. After that, two case of utility ware examined. One is the thermal electric generation using the difference between human body temperature and room temperature, and the other is the thermal electric generation using the difference between the hot water temperature in the bath tub and bath room temperature. In the first case, the generated power was over 170uW and in the second case the generated power was 633.5uW averagely during the day. Those results clarified that the thermal electric generation is useful as the power source of wireless terminal used for sensor network

We report a case of pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) that triggered the progressive interstitial pneumonia (IP) complicated with pneumomediastinum. Usefulness of rituximab-based treatment of seven patients with WaldenstrÖm macroglobulinemia
publisher[Abstract] Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia is relatively rare, accounting for approximately 2% of all hematological malignancies, with an annual incidence of 2-3 per million, median age at presentation of 64 years, and overall survival of 60 months. The aim of treatment should be to improve the quality and duration of life with minimal side effects in the most cost-effective manner. We retrospectively investigated the clinical characteristics and treatment of seven elderly patients with WaldenstrÖm macroglobulinemia in our institute. The median age of patients was 72 years (range: 62-77) and median serum IgM level was 2,975 mg/dL (range: 1033-6806). 3 patients were treated with rituximab alone (375 mg/m^2, once a month for 8 months), and 4 patients were treated with rituximab 375 mg/m^2 on day 1 and oral fludarabine 25 mg/m^2 on days 2-6 every 4 weeks for 6 courses. Rituximab alone was effective, with 1 CR, 1 PR, and 1 SD, and no toxicity being reported. The rituximab and fludarabine treatment was also effective, with 4 PR. The maintoxicity observed was hematological, and there were no severe infections. The rituximab and fludarabine treatment was an effective therapy; however, myelosuppression may pose a problem in patients. Patients can tolerate long-term treatment with the clinically stable rituximab alone, which is necessary to investigate the optimal regimen and maintenance therapy for rituximab
Inhibition of ABCG2 enhances chemo-sensitivity of murine glioma stem cell-like cells to temozolomide and reduces spheroid-forming capability
publisher[Abstract] Current evidence indicates that glioma stem cell-like cells (GSC_S) in humans play critical roles in the pathogenesis of carcinogenesis ofglioblastoma (GBM ). The GSC_S are known to overexpress members of the adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ABC) family transporters to exhibit multidrug resistance. Eradication of the GSC compartment is therefore essential to achieve a stable and long-lasting remission of GBM. To elucidate the characteristics of GSC_S in detail, we generated murine GSC lines from Sleeping Beauty transposon-mediated spontaneous GBM . Using these several cell lines, we evaluated the significance of ABC transporters in the GSC kinetics by cell morphology assays, flow cytometry, and quantitativeRT-PCR for mRNA expressions. As a consequence, we show that siRNA-mediated ABCG2 inhibition enhances the sensitivity of GSC_S to temozolomide (TMZ) and in turn reduces their spheroid-forming capability. Furthermore, we show that GSC_S treated with Abcg2-specific siRNA become sensitive to TMZ and reduce their spheroid-forming capability. In conclusion, our data suggest that targeting of drug transporters in GSC_S is a promising strategy to enhance their chemo-sensitivity for achieving a longlasting remission of GBM
