    Experimental Performance Evaluation of different Remote Servers to analyse the effect of divergent load and congestion

    In terms of provisioning of guaranteed QoS to the end-user, the performance of remote servers is a critical issue for internet service providers to remain competitive in the market. The end-user would like to have a quick and instant response from the webmail server to enjoy the service. Load and congestion are the greatest hurdles in web based linkage and conversation. The efficiency of web page retrieval is degraded due to the peak use of internet and also because of its highly complex architecture. This paper provides an experimental effort to analyze the effect of load and congestion on web services and measures the performance characteristics like Response time, Latency, jitter, Round Trip Time, hits lost ratio, Page error rates, sending and receiving speed, availability and reliability for accessing different popular and vastly used remote servers (Yahoo Server, Gmail Server, Hotmail Server) to conclude, how load and congestion cause the increment in latency of services? Is there any significant relationship between congestion and hop counts? We contributed new and novel results for further discussions

    SIMOnt: A Security Information Management Ontology Framework

    Oneof the major problems that plague all ontology designers is the absence of an unambiguous and exhaustive list of values that may be used to define concepts and their inter-relationships. This is mostly due to the fact that most of the documents describing the concepts and their relationships are either unstructured or semi-structured in nature. Moreover, due to the dynamic nature of the document repository on the Web, any agent or system designed for reasoning with these concepts should be able to adapt to changes and an ontology should be upgradeable with information extracted from text documents. In this paper, we have proposed the design of a Security Information Management Ontology (SIMOnto) which utilizes natural language processing and statistical analysis to mine an exhaustive list of concepts and their relationships in an automatic way. Concepts are extracted using TF-IDF and LSA techniques whereas, relations between them are mined using semantic and co-occurrence based analyses. The mined concepts and relations are presented to domain experts for validation before creation of ontology using Protégé

    A Framework for Portal Implementation: A Case for Saudi Organizations

    Portals provide an aggregated and personalized view of information through a large application integrating information, people, and processes across organizational boundaries. As such, portals can significantly impact organizations, completely changing how they work and operate. In addition, many critical success factors can affect portals at any stage of implementation. Many organizations lack suitable frameworks for implementing portals to ensure success in the organization, customer satisfaction, and employee morale. To address this gap, we proposed a comprehensive framework to develop and operate portal projects by considering specific critical success factors. We have evaluated and compared this work with previous work in the same field, more accurate and significant results

    Embedded Control Design for Insulin Pump

    This paper presents the design of an embedded control system for insulin pump. The insulin pump is an integrated component in any closed loop insulin delivery system for type 1 diabetes. The pump consists of three main components: micro-needles, insulin reservoir (syringe), and piezoelectric (PZT) linear servo motor. The actuated syringe has an injection back pressure that resists the linear motion of the driving PZT motor. This back pressure acts as a disturbance and leads to inaccurate position and consequently an imprecise insulin dosage. Therefore, a highly precise positioning control on the pump is required to control the insulin dosage and to maintain the blood glucose level in its safe range. The proposed controller is designed using fuzzy logic as a nonlinear controller to compensate any non-modeled nonlinearities in the system. The embedded controller for the PZT motor can be implemented using FPGA or microcontroller chip. This controller acts as a slave and responds to its master controller which controls the complete closed loop insulin delivery system

    Using Collaborative Translation to Increase Students Knowledge of Web Accessibility

    Online Library for Graduation Projects Management: The OGPL System

    In this paper, we describe the design of a web-based application developed to assist universities to have a depository that contains all graduation projects' documentations that senior students undertake. This ongoing project aims to develop a system to provide complete search functionalities of all stored graduation project documents in a centralized database. System functionality includes viewing, downloading and borrowing graduation project documents as well as guidelines to assist students in preparing these documents. It also includes a borrowing system that can emulate a real library system within the department, whereas every available document in the database can be borrowed physically for viewing. We discuss how this system serves the organization with a cost-effective and efficient method for managing graduation project documents for faculty and student

    Features Subset Selection for Network Intrusion Detection Mechanism Using Genetic Eigen Vectors

    Network Intrusions are critical issues in computer and network systems. Several intrusion detection approaches be present to resolve these severe problems but the major problem is performance. To increase performance, it is significant to increase the detection rates and reduce false alarm rates in the area of intrusion detection. The recent approaches use Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to project features space to principal feature space and select features corresponding to the highest eigenvalues, but the features corresponding to the highest eigenvalues may not have the optimal sensitivity for the classifier due to ignoring many sensitive features. Instead of using traditional approach of selecting features with the highest eigenvalues such as PCA, we applied a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to search the principal feature space for genetic eigenvectors that offers a subset of features with optimal sensitivity and the highest discriminatory power. Therefore, in this research, a mechanism for optimal features subset selection is proposed to overcome performance issues using PCA, GA and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). The KDD-cup dataset is used that is a benchmark for evaluating the security detection mechanisms. The MLP is used for classification purpose. The performance of this approach is addresses. Consequently, this method provides optimal intrusion detection mechanism which is capable to minimize amount of features and maximize the detection rate

    A Perceptual Approach for Image Representation and Retrieval – The Case of Textures

    This chapter describes an approach based on human perception to content-based image representation and retrieval. We consider textured images and propose to model the textural content of images by a set of features having a perceptual meaning and their application to content-based image retrieval. We present a new method to estimate a set of perceptual textural features, namely coarseness, directionality, contrast and busyness. The proposed computational measures are based on two representations: the original images representation and the autocovariance function (associated with images) representation. The correspondence of the proposed computational measures to human judgments is shown using a psychometric method based on the Spearman rank-correlation coefficient. The set of computational measures is applied to content-based image retrieval on a large image data set, the well-known Brodatz database. Experimental results show a strong correlation between the proposed computational textural measures and human perceptual judgments. The benchmarking of retrieval performance, done using the recall measure, shows interesting results. Furthermore, results merging/fusion returned by each of the two representations is shown to allow significant improvement in retrieval effectiveness

    Labeling and biodistribution of 99mTc-7-bromo-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-quinolin-3-carboxylic acid complex

    7-Bromo-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-quinolin-3-carboxylic acid (BDOQCA), was synthesized with a yield of 93% and well characterized. The obtained compound was investigated to label with one of the most important radioactive isotopes technetium-99m). Effect of BDOQCA concentration, stannous chloride dihydrates (SnCl2.2H2O) concentration, pH and reaction time on the percent labeling yield of 99mTc-BDOQCA complex was studied in details. 99mTc-BDOQCA complex was obtained at a maximum yield of 97.3% by mixing 2.5 mg of BDOQCA with 25 lg SnCl2.2H2O at pH 6 and 30min reaction time and the formed complex was stable for a time up to 8 h with a maximum yield of 97.3%. Biodistribution studies in mice were carried out using experimentally induced infection in the left thigh using E. coli. Both thighs of the mice were dissected and counted to evaluate the ratio of bacterial infected thigh/contralateral thigh. Higher uptake in the infected thigh was observed after 2 h of IV administration of 99mTc-BDOQCA complex (T/NT = 7.6 ± 0.6%) than that of the commercially available 99mTc-ciprofloxacin complex (T/NT = 3.8 ± 1%). The in vitro binding and biodistribution of 99mTc-BDOQCA complex in the septic and aseptic inflammation bearing mice showed that, 99mTc-BDOQCA complex is a promising agent for infection imaging and can differentiate between infected and inflamed muscle.King Saud Universit
