    An Educational Tool for Generating Inaccessible Page Examples Based on WCAG 2.0 Failures

    Abstract One of the problems encountered while teaching web accessibility evaluation to undergraduate students is the lack of proper educational tools that support learning accessibility barriers modularly. This paper presents an online educational tool called Accessibility Example Generator (AEG), designed to assist instructors in the process of creating examples of inaccessible web pages that violate the accessibility guidelines of WCAG 2.0. The online tool supports generating the examples in a form which can be received and reviewed easily by undergraduate computing students. By using a sequence of tailored checks, the instructor can choose which failure or combination of failures the example should include. Utilizing such a tool while teaching web accessibility will enrich the learning and understanding of WCAG 2.0 guidelines through generating modular examples that will not overwhelm the student and at the same time will help spread the knowledge of accessibility through future developers.King Saud Universit

    LEXI: A Semantic Tool to Enrich Lexical Competence of Language Learners

    Abstract Lexical competence lies at the heart of language learning, it is an essential element for acquiring reading, writing and communication proficiency. Although vocabulary instruction is an essential part in a language classroom, research suggests that learners still lack necessary lexical competence in word knowledge. In this paper we propose an educational software tool, called LEXI, which aims to enhance learners' lexical competence using ontologies. Ontologies provide a model which is capable of representing lexical semantics in a way which explicate meat-linguistic information. Adopting such a model will provide an environment which supports learners in grasping the meaning of words, and thus improving their lexical competence.King Saud Universit

    On the Implementation of Text to Arabic Sign Language Convertor on Mobile Phones.

    Abstract Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) is considered the native language for more than 17 million deaf people in the Arab world. There exist a major communication gap between the deaf and the hearing people, which can be attributed to the lack of proper communication technologies. This technical paper presents the design and implementation of a mobile system that converts written Arabic text to ArSL using a signing avatar that operates on mobile phones. The system takes into consideration the linguistic idiosyncrasies of Arabic language as well as employs text-to-sign-language animation. The main contribution of this system resides in its novel approach for processing Arabic text and animating a 3D signing avatar within minimum computational resources found in mobile phones.King Saud Universit

    A Survey of Genetic Algorithms for the University Timetabling Problem

    The university timetabling problem is a scheduling problem that many educational institutions need to solve in order to plan their courses and/or exams by allocating these events to specific timeslots, rooms, lecturers…etc. There are also a number of hard and soft constraints that must be observed while solving this problem, which makes the solution algorithm a challenge for researchers. Genetic Algorithms (GAs) is a popular meta-heuristic technique that has been successfully applied to many hard combinatorial optimization problems, among which are timetabling and scheduling problems. In this paper we describe some GA techniques that have recently been applied to different variants of the university timetabling problem producing promising results. We briefly describe the overall technique, focusing on the chromosome representation and the crossover and mutation operators.     Awareness of Care Needed for Children with Autism among Their Mothers

    The study aimed to assess the mothers’ awareness of care needed for their autistic children and to identify the effect of an educational program on their knowledge and practices regarding autism. Design, a quasi experimental research design was used to conduct this study. Setting, the study was conducted at Psychiatric Out–Patient, Pediatric Clinic, in El-Abbassia Psychiatric Mental Health Hospital. Sampling, a sample of 100 mothers having children with autism was selected in the period from June to November, 2010. Tools for data collection, Socio-demographic data sheet for both children and their mothers as age, gender, educational level, occupation. Questionnaire sheet developed by the researchers to assess knowledge of mothers about autism it contains items related to (meaning, causes, symptoms, treatment of autism, social and emotional needs of their children). Findings, the study results revealed that, more than half of the autistic children (68%) aged between 8-12 years and less than three–fourth of them (72%) were male. As regard educational level, 41% were at the primary level and more than eighty percent (84%) were 3 or more rank order. Twenty percent of the study subjects have knowledge regarding meaning of autism, in relation to signs and symptoms of autism, less than half of the study sample having knowledge about signs and symptoms of autistic children ,while about one quarters of the participants having knowledge for social needs regarding autistic children Conclusion: education on childhood autism is needed and can be provided through continuing education and emphasizing childhood autism in their training curriculum Recommendation, nurses should re¬ceive adequate training courses in children care physically, emotionally and socially.     Entanglement dynamics of one-dimensional driven spin systems in time-varying magnetic fields

    We study the dynamics of nearest-neighbor entanglement for a one-dimensional spin chain with a nearest-neighbor time-dependent Heisenberg coupling J(t) between the spins in the presence of a time-dependent external magnetic field h(t) at zero and finite temperatures. We consider different forms of time dependence for the coupling and magnetic field: exponential, hyperbolic, and periodic. Solving the system numerically, we examined the system-size effect on the entanglement asymptotic value. It was found that, for a small system size, the entanglement starts to fluctuate within a short period of time after applying the time-dependent coupling. The period of time increases as the system size increases and disappears completely as the size goes to infinity. Testing the effect of the transition constant for an exponential or hyperbolic coupling showed a direct impact on the asymptotic value of the entanglement; the larger the constant is, the lower the asymptotic value and the more rapid decay of entanglement are, which confirms the nonergodic character of the system. We also found that, when J(t) is periodic, the entanglement shows a periodic behavior with the same period, which disappears upon applying periodic magnetic field with the same frequency. Solving the case J(t)=λh(t), for constant λ, exactly, we showed that the time evolution and asymptotic value of entanglement are dictated solely by the parameter λ=J/h rather than the individual values of J and h, not only when they are time independent and at zero temperature, but also when they are time dependent but proportional at zero and finite temperatures for all degrees of anisotropy.Research Cente

    Numerical and series solutions of the peristaltic motion of an Oldroyd 8-constant fluid in an endoscope.

    In the present article, we have presented the peristaltic flow of an Oldroyd 8-constant fluid in an endoscope. The governing equations for the flow problem are simplified using long wavelength and low Reynold's number approximations. The solutions of the simplified problem are calculated using (i) Homotopy analysis method and (ii) Shooting method. The comparison of both the solutions shows a very good agreement between the results. The graphical results for the velocity field and stresses are presented to show the physical behaviour of all the parameters appearing in the problem

    Peristaltic flow of Walter’s B fluid in endoscope

    The peristaltic flow of a Walter’s B fluid in an endoscope is studied. The problem is modeled in a cylindrical coordinate system. The main theme of the present analysis is to study the endoscopic effects on the peristaltic flow of the Walter’s B fluid. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no investigation has been made so far in the literatures to study the Walter’s B fluid in an endoscope. Analytical solutions are obtained using the regular perturbation method by taking δ as a perturbation parameter. The approximate analytical solutions for the pressure rise and friction forces are evaluated using numerical integration. The effects of emerging parameters of the Walter’s B fluid are presented graphically

    Boundary layer flow of a Jeffrey fluid with convective boundary conditions

    The boundary layer stretched flow of a Jeffrey fluid subject to the convective boundary conditions was investigated. The governing dimensionless problems were computed by using the homotopy analysis approach. Convergence of the derived solutions was checked and the influence of embedded parameters was analyzed by plotting graphs. It was noticed that the velocity increases with an increase in the Deborah number. Furthermore, it was found that the temperature is also an increasing function of the Biot number. We further found that for fixed values of other parameters, the local Nusselt number increases by increasing the suction parameter and Deborah number.
