Systematic Minimization Technique for Majority-Majority Digital Combinational Circuits

    No full text
Abstract: In CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology AND-OR combination logic is used because of the ease of its minimization using different well-known techniques such as K-Map. On the other hand, majority gate-based logic is not handled well in standard CMOS technologies, primarily because of the hardware inefficiencies in creating majority gates. As a result no optimization techniques of circuits based on majority gates were established. Promising technologies particularly, Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) use majority gate as a primary logic primitive instead of the AND-OR combination gates. We report a perceptive systematic minimization technique for reduction of 3-variable, 4-variables and 5-variables Boolean functions into a simplified majority of majority gate representation. The main role of this work is the general and systematic way the new approach can be applied. All attempts in the literature were complex and lacked the extended systematic approach that we are offering. The design of several logical functions will be presented using the new technique. Simulation of these functions are done using QCA designer showing area reduction achievements.King Saud Universit

An Experimental System for Measuring the Credibility of News Content in Twitter.

    No full text
Abstract Purpose – Owing to the large amount of information available on Twitter (a micro-blogging service) that is not necessarily true or believable, credibility of news published in such an electronic channel has become an important area for investigation in the field of web credibility. This paper aims to address this issue. Design/methodology/approach – A system was developed to measure the credibility of news content published in Twitter. The system uses two approaches to assign credibility levels (low, high and average) to each tweet. The first approach is based on the similarity between Twitter posts (tweets) and authentic (i.e. verified) news sources. The second approach is based on the similarity with verified news sources in addition to a set of proposed features. Findings – The evaluations of the two approaches showed that assigning credibility levels to Twitter tweets for the first approach has a higher precision and recall. Additional experiments showed that the linking feature has its impact on the second approach results. Research limitations/implications – The proposed system is experimental; thus further experiments are needed to prove these findings. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the research on web credibility. It is believed to be the first which provides a proposed system to evaluate the credibility of Twitter news content automatically.King Saud Universit

Online Library for Graduation Projects Management: The OGPL System

    No full text
In this paper, we describe the design of a web-based application developed to assist universities to have a depository that contains all graduation projects' documentations that senior students undertake. This ongoing project aims to develop a system to provide complete search functionalities of all stored graduation project documents in a centralized database. System functionality includes viewing, downloading and borrowing graduation project documents as well as guidelines to assist students in preparing these documents. It also includes a borrowing system that can emulate a real library system within the department, whereas every available document in the database can be borrowed physically for viewing. We discuss how this system serves the organization with a cost-effective and efficient method for managing graduation project documents for faculty and students

Trends in combatting image spam emails

    No full text
With the rapid adoption of Internet as an easyway to communicate, the amount of unsolicited e-mails, known as spam e-mails, has been growing rapidly. The major problem of spam e-mails is the loss of productivity and a drain on IT resources. Today, we receive spam more rapidly than the legitimate e-mails. Initially, spam e-mails contained only textual messages which were easily detected by the text-based spam filters. To evade such detection, spammers came up with a new sophisticated technique called image spam. Image spam consists in embedding the advertisement text in images rather than in the body of the e-mail, yet the image contents are not detected by most spam filters. In this paper, we examine the motivations and the challenges in image spam filtering research, and we review the recent trends in combating image spam e-mails. The review indicates that spamming is a business model and spammers are becoming more sophisticated in their approach to adapt to all challenges, and hence, defeating the conventional spam filtering technologies. Therefore, image spam detection techniques should be scalable and adaptable to meet the future tactics of the spammersIACSI

A comparative study of the accuracy and reliability of multidetector computed tomography and cone beam computed tomography in the assessment of dental implant site dimensions

    No full text
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy and reliability of linear measurements of edentulous ridges recorded from 16-row multidetector CT (MDCT) images and cone beam CT (CBCT) images acquired using a flat panel detector (FPD) with a large field of view (FOV), both independently and in comparison with each other. Methods: Edentulous areas of human dry skulls were marked with gutta-percha markers to standardize the plane of the transverse cross-sections and path of measurements. The skulls were imaged using a 16-row MDCT scanner and a CBCT device with a large FOV and a FPD. Ridge dimensions were recorded from reformatted sections by two observers and compared with measurements recorded directly from the bone. The measurement errors and intra and interexaminer reliability were calculated for each modality and compared with each other. Results: The overall mean of the absolute errors was 0.75 mm for MDCT and 0.49 mm for CBCT. The mean of the CBCT absolute errors was smaller than that of the MDCT absolute errors for the overall data, as well as for the site-specific data. The intraexaminer reliability score was 0.994 for MDCT and 0.995 for CBCT. The interexaminer reliability was 0.985 for MDCT and 0.958 for CBCT. Conclusions: Both MDCT and CBCT were associated with a clinically and statistically significant measurement error. CBCT measurements were significantly more accurate than those of MDCT. The measurements recorded from both modalities had a high inter and intraexaminer reliability. Accuracy of measurements was found to be more operator dependent with CBCT than with MDCT

Improved CBIR through Combined Indexing Techniques

Multimedia databases get larger and larger in our days. There are various aspects that affect the demand for efficient database techniques to manage the flood of multimedia data, namely the increasing number of objects, the increasing complexity of objects. Whereas traditional indexing structures cope with large numbers of simple objects, complex multimedia objects require more sophisticated indexing techniques. In this paper we discuss the current state-of-theart of various indexing technique as seen from content-based image retrieval point of view and proposed a novel approach named Hierarchical Hash Grid Indexing structure which has excellent performance and capable of handling huge number of images with less response time.King Saud Universit

Workers remittances to India: Stylized facts

    No full text
Workers’ remittances are an important source of external finance for India for about three decades. The significance of remittance receipts from Indians abroad has been growing over the years. Remittances are found to be stable even during the times of financial turbulence. This paper traces the current trends in the inflow of remittances from overseas Indians

Effects of heat and mass transfer on the peristaltic flow of hyperbolic tangent fluid in an annulus

    No full text
This article deals with the influence of heat and mass transfer on peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid in an annulus. The two dimensional equations of tangent hyperbolic fluid are simplified by making the assumptions of long wave length and low Reynolds number. Exact solutions are evaluated for both heat and concentration field, while analytical and numerical solutions are carried out for velocity profile. Comparison of both the solution is presented through graph and table. The expressions for pressure rise, temperature, concentration field and pressure gradient are sketched for various embedded parameters and interprete

Peristaltic motion of Phan–Thien–Tanner fluid in the presence of slip condition

    No full text
This investigation considers the peristaltic flow of a Phan–Thien–Tanner fluid in the presence of slip condition and induced magnetic field. By use of the long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations, closed form series solutions for stream function, pressure gradient, magnetic force function, axial induced magnetic field, and current density were obtained. The pressure gradient and frictional forces per wavelength were computed by numerical integration. The velocity slip condition in terms of shear stress is taken into account. Graphical results show the comparison between no-slip and viscous fluid cases. Pumping and trapping phenomena are discussed
