Generalized Control Scheme for Dual Three-Phase PMSM under Normal and Postfault Operation
Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (DTP-PMSMs) are particularly suitable for high-speed motors due to their medium-voltage, high-current characteristics and postfault-operation ability. However, the fault diagnosis process at high speed can greatly affect the normal operation. This paper proposes a generalized control scheme for DTP-PMSMs which is effective under both healthy and arbitrary open-phase fault (OPF) operations without changing control schemes. The voltage transfer error in the arbitrary phase and the control target confliction in z1-z2 subspace under OPF are both considered. Only Proportional Integral controllers are utilized in the proposed strategy to achieve simple implementation. Experiment results prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy
Transformative Change in Coastal Biodiversity Conservation:A Systematic Literature Review of Governance, Social–Ecological, and Cultural Pathways
Coastal ecosystems are among the most biodiverse and economically valuable environments on Earth, yet they face escalating threats from climate change, development, and resource exploitation. Traditional conservation approaches have proven insufficient to address the systemic drivers of biodiversity loss, calling for transformative change that fundamentally reconfigures social–ecological systems. This semi-structured systematic literature review synthesizes current knowledge on transformative change in coastal biodiversity conservation, guided by the Social–Ecological Systems Framework (SESF) and expanded to include behavioral transformation as a central dimension. Behavioral transformation is defined as the sustained embedding of new attitudes, norms, and practices within governance, institutional, and community settings. Through a comprehensive review of academic databases (SCOPUS, Web of Science, CAB Abstracts) and gray literature, 134 studies published between 2010 and 2024 were analyzed. The synthesis identifies four interdependent pathways of transformation: (1) governance innovation and power redistribution, (2) behavioral change and stakeholder engagement, (3) socio-ecological restructuring, and (4) normative and cultural shifts in human–nature relations. Successful initiatives integrate trust-building, social justice, and participatory decision-making, linking behavioral change with institutional redesign and adaptive management. However, critical gaps remain in understanding long-term durability, equity outcomes, and scalability across governance levels. The review proposes three research priorities: (1) embedding behavioral science in conservation design, (2) employing longitudinal and cross-scale analyses, and (3) advancing adaptive, learning-based governance to enhance socio-ecological resilience
Learning to serve: social learning and organizational customer orientation-employee job performance link in Nigerian service firms
Organizational Customer Orientation (OCO) refers to an organization's continuous and proactive disposition that puts the interests of customers first. Extant studies have explored the relationship between OCO and employee job performance. However, the results are mixed and inconsistent. Collecting a set of multisource data at different points of times in Nigeria, this research advances the literature by arguing that Employee Customer Orientation (ECO) acts as a mechanism between OCO and employee job performance. Moreover, we argue that this mediation effect is moderated by the employee's personality trait of openness to experience. The results support the view that, as expected, ECO mediates the effect of OCO on employee job performance. And, this mediating effect is moderated by the employee's openness to experience. From a managerial perspective, our findings highlight the importance of an organizational climate for customer orientation and the management of employee - working environment interactions
Reconnecting through touch:participant experiences of audio-recorded sensory engagement
Touch is an important aspect of human experience, linked to emotional and social connection. In contexts of physical distancing, isolation, or sensory sensitivities, alternative ways of engaging with touch must be considered. This article explores participants’ experiences during the outdoor sensory performance ‘Until We Meet,’ which used guided audio-recordings to remotely engage participants with their sense of touch and connection. The project took place in a public park and involved 22 participants who engaged with touch-focussedaudio-recordings. Participants’ responses were gathered through feedback forms and creative contributions to an accompanying installation. A thematic analysis was applied to interpret the qualitative data. The insights revealed that participants experienced non-physical forms of touch, including self-touch, imagined touch, and emotional touch, despite physical separation and these enhanced their body awareness and supported feelings of social connection despite physical separation. The insights suggest that touch-focused audio-recordings may serve as a low-barrier way to support sensory well-being, especially for individuals with limited access to physical touch. Future work will prioritise enhancing accessibility and co-creating audio-recordings with specific populations to ensure they are more closely tailored to participants’ needs
Multichiral Half-Sandwich Ru(II) and Os(II) Anticancer Complexes Containing a Glutathione Synthesis Inhibitor
Two novel half-sandwich organometallic complexes, [(p-cymene)M(XY)Cl], XY = L-BSO, M = RuII (Ru-LBSO), OsII (Os-LBSO), containing the amino acid L-buthionine sulfoximine (L-BSO), as well as their XY = glycine analogs (Ru-Gly and Os-Gly), have been synthesized, characterized and their solution chemistry investigated. L-BSO is an inhibitor of the enzyme γ-glutamyl cysteine synthetase and, hence, glutathione synthesis. The diastereomers of Ru-LBSO and Os-LBSO were also characterized by DFT calculations which suggested the higher stability of [SM,rS] and [SM,sS] compared to [RM,rS] and [RM,sS] configurations [chirality at M(II), chirality at sulfur of L-BSO]. Interestingly, glycine complexes are non-toxic toward both cancer and normal cells, whereas Os-LBSO was cytotoxic toward human IGROV-1 ovarian cancer cells, but not toward lung and cervical cancer cells. Os-LBSO, but not Ru-LBSO, demonstrated glutathione inhibition. These studies on Ru-LBSO and Os-LBSO complexes demonstrate the challenges of making progress toward the development for clinical use of organometallic complexes that contain multiple chiral centers. However, they offer exciting possibilities for discovery of novel drugs with new mechanisms of action

Evaluating treatment options for symptomatic uterine fibroids:a systematic review and meta-analysis of effectiveness, recovery, and long-term outcomes (MARIE WP1)
BackgroundUterine fibroids can significantly impair the quality of life of women. While most fibroids remain asymptomatic, 25% of women diagnosed with uterine fibroids require medical intervention.MethodsA systematic review and meta-analysis protocol was developed and published in PROSPERO (CRD42022346251) to explore surgical treatment outcomes linked to uterine fibroids. Data was gathered using PubMed, Web of Science and ScienceDirect. The pooled data was analysed using the meta-package (version 8.0-1 and version 4.6-0) in R software (version 4.4.2).ResultsFive studies met the eligibility criteria, and were further analysed to report quality of life, symptom severity and complications linked to surgery. Three studies (n = 520) assessed HRQoL via UFS-QoL pre- and post-uterine artery embolisation and myomectomy. The pooled mean difference was -6.99 [95% CI: (-16.49, 2.51); I 2 = 71.9%; P = 0.03], indicating no significant difference in quality of life impact between procedures. However, the pooled mean difference for UFS-QoL symptom severity was 4.85 [95% CI: (0.50, 9.21); I 2 = 0.0%; P = 0.52], suggesting myomectomy significantly reduces symptom severity compared to uterine artery embolisation. Most studies did not report race and ethnicity, and the study sample was not representative of the global female populous.ConclusionUterine artery embolisation and myomectomy result in comparable improvements in health-related quality of life although myomectomy appears to offer a greater reduction in symptom severity compared to uterine artery embolisation. These findings can assist clinicians and patients make improved shared decisions when selecting the most appropriate treatment for uterine fibroids. Improved research study designs and representation in sample need to be considered when conducting future research
Problematising menstrual tracking apps:presenting a novel critical scoping review methodology for mapping and interpreting research literature
Objectives: To showcase a novel, theoretically informed methodology for conducting scoping reviews by operationalising critical theory. And to advance the field of women’s digital health by applying this critical scoping review methodology (CSR) to research on menstrual tracking apps (MTAs). Methods and measures: 116 articles published in English, between November 2015 and November 2023, focusing on MTAs, and/or user’s experiences of MTAs, were thematically analysed through the Foucauldian concept of problematisation and analytics from critical psychology. This method examined what was produced as a problem, and the underpinning discourses, subject positions, paradigms, desired outcomes, and absences within these problem categories. Results: Four problematisations were identified, (1) the problem of data privacy (subproblems: type of data, consent, abortion surveillance); (2) the problem with efficacy (subproblems: evaluating efficacy, accuracy, useability); (3) the problem of regulation (subproblems: self-surveillance, normative femininity, hormonal imperative, cycle regularity imperative, menstrual stigma); and (4) the problem of women (subproblems: health literacy, technology use, medically unknown, hard to design for). Conclusion: MTA researchers would benefit from understanding their field through these problematisations. The CSR offers an important theoretically informed methodology for mapping and interpreting a research literature, which can identify, and expand, possibilities for research thought and practice
Bridging effects for through-thickness reinforced laminates
The delamination growth resistance of laminates can be enhanced through bridging effects. Despite the potential to deliver improved mechanical performance, there are very few works that investigate bridging effects analytically, which could be used to facilitate the design and assessment of laminates. In this work, a novel analytical model is developed to assess the crack driving force (energy release rate, or J-integral) of a mode-I crack for z-pin-reinforced laminates using the double cantilever beam (DCB) configuration. To study bridging effects, a J-integral reduction factor and force enhancement are defined based on the developed model. Two critical conditions are established for the crack driving force being zero, namely, the crack’s complete closure, and zero crack-tip force balance. The analytical solutions are studied and validated for the cases of single-pinned and multiple-pinned DCB, showing excellent agreement with both numerical simulations and experiments. The developed theory can also be employed to study other types of through-thickness reinforcement and is readily applicable for assessment and design of laminate structures to improve their delamination growth resistance and fracture behavior
Emergency medical supplies scheduling during public health emergencies:algorithm design based on AI techniques
Based on AI technology, this study proposes a novel large-scale emergency medical supplies scheduling (EMSS) algorithm to address the issues of low turnover efficiency of medical supplies and unbalanced supply and demand point scheduling in public health emergencies. We construct a fairness index using an improved Gini coefficient by considering the demand for emergency medical supplies (EMS), actual distribution, and the degree of emergency at disaster sites. We developed a bi-objective optimisation model with a minimum Gini index and scheduling time. We employ a heterogeneous ant colony algorithm to solve the Pareto boundary based on reinforcement learning. A reinforcement learning mechanism is introduced to update and exchange pheromones among populations, with reward factors set to adjust pheromones and improve algorithm convergence speed. The effectiveness of the algorithm for a large EMSS problem is verified by comparing its comprehensive performance against a super-large capacity evaluation index. Results demonstrate the algorithm's effectiveness in reducing convergence time and facilitating escape from local optima in EMSS problems. The algorithm addresses the issue of demand differences at each disaster point affecting fair distribution. This study optimises early-stage EMSS schemes for public health events to minimise losses and casualties while mitigating emotional distress among disaster victims.</p
