Opinion: Is it time for Azerbaijan to reconsider its CIS membership?
In recent years, Azerbaijan’s relationship with Russia and Russia-led multilateral frameworks has entered a period of growing ambiguity. Statements by prominent Russian ideologues and narratives circulating in Russian state media increasingly question the sovereignty and independent foreign policy choices of post-Soviet states, including Azerbaijan. Against this backdrop, Baku faces a legitimate and timely question: what tangible political or strategic value does continued membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) actually provide
Opinion: After the visit of US Vice President JD Vance, the South Caucasus is being rewired
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s February 9–11 visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan marked a structural turning point in the South Caucasus. Unlike previous high-level engagements of the United States that generated rhetorical alignment but limited follow-through, this visit embedded the region into long-term American economic, technological, and strategic frameworks. Taking place on the heels of the latest agreement (January 14) between Washington and Yerevan on the implementation framework for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), the visit served to consolidate the American influence in the region and taking it to higher levels. The consequences are unfolding along two axes: domestically, within Armenia and Azerbaijan’s political economies; and geopolitically, in the region’s recalibrating balance between the United States and Russia, with Georgia seeking entry into the new configuration
Effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in Reducing Anxiety Symptoms Across Different Anxiety Disorders Compared to Control Conditions and Alternative Treatments: A Systematic Literature Review
Background: Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health conditions worldwide. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is widely regarded as a first-line treatment, but its evidence base is constantly evolving with new research on long-term outcomes, comparative efficacy, and novel delivery methods. The first aim of this mixed methods review is to explore the efficacy and long-term effectiveness of CBT for anxiety disorders. The secondary aims evaluate the comparative effectiveness of its various delivery modalities (e.g., face-to-face, digital, virtual reality) and its efficacy relative to other active treatments, such as pharmacotherapy and emerging psychotherapies.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted based on a synthesis of 12 peer-reviewed research summaries, including meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and longitudinal studies. The population included children, adolescents, and adults with diagnosed anxiety disorders. Interventions included standard CBT and its variants (e.g., ICBT, VRCBT, CBGT). Outcomes included reduction in anxiety symptoms, long-term maintenance of gains, quality of life improvements, and comparative efficacy between modalities.
Conclusions: The results from this review will provide evidence that CBT is a highly effective treatment for a range of anxiety disorders, showing medium to large effect sizes. CBT remains the gold-standard, evidence-based psychological intervention for anxiety disorders. Its benefits are durable over time and can be effectively delivered through both traditional and emerging digital formats, which can help bridge the accessibility gap. These findings clarify that, future research should focus on long-term follow-ups, optimizing digital engagement, and adapting protocols for diverse cultural and clinical populations
Opinion: The upcoming visit of Vice President J.D. Vance to the South Caucasus consolidates the US position in the region
On January 24, 2026, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance will travel to Armenia and Azerbaijan in February 2026 to build on recent peace efforts and advance the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). In his statement, President Trump said the visit would “build on our peace efforts, and advance the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” signaling Washington’s intent to maintain high-level engagement in a region of growing strategic significance
From black gold to green power: Azerbaijan prepares for the post-oil era
Azerbaijan marked a new milestone in its energy transition earlier this month with the official launch of the Khizi–Absheron Wind Power Plant, the largest wind energy facility in the South Caucasus. Beyond its symbolic value, the project reflects a concrete shift in Azerbaijan’s energy trajectory, signalling a growing commitment to renewable energy as both an economic necessity and a strategic choice
Exploring Intersections between Nizami and Dante Before and after Medievality
In the works of great poets and writers, the idea of the historical past and the assessment
of the past play an important role. A poet and a writer must have a certain philosophy
of history in order to revive the past in an artistic way. The works of poets such
as Nizami and Dante are rich in philosophical ideas, political views and philosophy of
history.
The heroes of Nizami’s poem-novels Khosrov and Shirin and Seven Beauties are historical
figures of Iran and the world around it. The literary and political theme of these
works is love and an idea of a just ruler. Nizami’s last and largest work, Iskandar-Nama
(The Book of Alexander), explores the ideas of world history, world geography and a just
ruler. Nizami develops a historical-geographical concept in accordance with this goal.
Iskandar, the ruler of the world in Nizami’s interpretation, travels the known world, visiting
the places that the historical Alexander the Great did not see. Iskandar engages in
philosophical discussions with the seven Greek philosophers he has gathered around
him; however, from a chronological point of view, only one of these philosophers is a
contemporary and acquaintance of Iskandar. In most cases, Nizami deliberately allows
historical anachronisms, implementing his creative ideas in this way
Azərbaycan milli kimliyinin konsepsiyası: yenən və yenilənən milli kimlik
Prezident İlham Əliyevin çıxışları, adətən, elm adamları üçün son dərəcə faydalı olur. Belə ki, Prezident 2025-ci il ərzindəki müsahibələrində və 2026-cı ilin yanvar ayında ötən ilin dəyərləndirməsinə əsasən verdiyi geniş müsahibədə kimlik məsələsi ilə bağlı dövlətin mövqeyini ictimaiyyətin nəzərinə çatdırdı. Prezidentin çıxışı ərazi bütövlüyünü tamamlamış dövlət adından edildiyindən daxili və xarici auditoriyada böyük diqqət və maraqla izlənmişdir.
Etiraf etmək lazımdır ki, modern dünyada arxasında dövlət təşkilatlanması olmayan bir millətin varlığından bəhs etmək çox da mümkün deyil. Prezidentin lazımi məqamda (Zəfərdən sonra) kimliklə bağlı (ana dili, tarix, Türk dünyası və s.) açıqlamalarına bu çərçivədə baxmaq lazımdır. Xatırlatmaq yerinə düşər ki, Heydər Əliyevin də kimliklə bağlı açıqlamaları, xüsusilə ana dili ilə bağlı cəsur və qərarlı mövqeyi ölkədə ana dilinə dair təqdirəlayiq addımların atılmasına xidmət etmişdir. Daha doğrusu, Sovet dövründə rus dili tərəfindən sıxışdırılan Azərbaycan dilinin və ana dilində oxuyub yazanların sosial status qazanmalarını asanlaşdırmışdır
