Artificial Intelligence in educational organizations : tools, implementation areas, benefits and risks of using AI
Cel: Głównym celem rozważań jest charakterystyka sztucznej inteligencji w organizacjach edukacyjnych. W opracowaniu określono następujące cele szczegółowe: analiza podstawowych pojęć z zakresu sztucznej inteligencji, identyfikacja narzędzi AI stosowanych w edukacji, wskazanie obszarów wdrażania AI oraz wyszczególnienie korzyści i ryzyk edukacji opartej na AI. Metoda: W badaniach zastosowano metodę opisową na podstawie przeglądu i analizy literatury przedmiotu. Wyniki: Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań ujawniły znaczny postęp w rozwoju – ilościowym i jakościowym narzędzi AI wykorzystywanych głównie w trzech obszarach: uczenia się (uczniowie), nauczania i oceniania (nauczyciele) oraz zarządzania systemem edukacyjnym. Ograniczenia badania: Ograniczeniem pracy jest jej teoretyczny charakter, który mógłby zostać wzbogacony o systematyczny przegląd danych. Oryginalność: Niniejszy rozdział w pewnym stopniu syntetyzuje dotychczasową wiedzę i dostarcza nowych spostrzeżeń na temat wybranych aspektów zastosowania sztucznej inteligencji w edukacji, co może stanowić ważne źródło informacji zarówno dla nauczycieli, osób zarządzających edukacją, jak i badaczy.Objective: The main objective of the considerations is to characterize artificial intelligence in educational organizations. The following specific objectives were defined in the study: analysis of basic concepts in the field of artificial intelligence, identification of AI tools used in education, indication of areas of AI implementation and specification of benefits and risks of AI‑‑ based education. Method: The descriptive method was used in the research based on a review and analysis of the subject literature. Conclusions: The results of the conducted research revealed significant progress in the development – quantitative and qualitative of AI tools used mainly in three areas: learning (students), teaching and assessment (teachers) and management of the educational system. Research limitations: The limitation of the work is its theoretical nature, which could be enriched with a systematic review of data. Originality: This chapter to some extent synthesizes the existing knowledge and provides new observations on selected aspects of the use of artificial intelligence in education, which can be an important source of information for teachers, education managers and researchers
Research into physicochemical changes in the retouching paints used at the National Museum in Krakow
This paper presents a comparative analysis of the durability of six commercial and modified retouching paints containing ultramarine blue or cadmium yellow pigments. The paints were subjected to high temperatures, light, and naturally aged for 4 years. The analysis focuses on evaluating chemical and physical changes leading to alterations in colour and wettability. The controlled museum environment does not entirely eliminate the detrimental impact of these factors, therefore the restoration procedure must be undertaken. The conservation of 18th-century paintings (Czartoryski Princes collection, National Museum in Kraków) has contributed to the study of changes in retouching media and the selection of the best ones. An analysis of commercial paints with similar compositions revealed notable differences in colour stability and mechanical properties. In the case of watercolors containing Arabic gum, the primary degradation process was the organic component evaporation. Conversely, for cycloketones and aldehydes resin-based paints, oxidation was the predominant process
Structure of rise in monthly temperature in Europe as estimated by machine learning
The rise in air temperature is a leading research topic. This is not only from the cognitive point of view, but also for practical reasons because it involves many effects that are dangerous to humans and their activities. Although this is not a new issue, it requires continuous monitoring as well as the application of multiple methods, including the latest, apparently most objective methods offered by, inter alia, artificial intelligence. In the present paper, the authors have undertaken to investigate the structure of the rise in mean monthly air temperatures in Europe using unsupervised machine learning methods. The last 70 years can be divided into two periods, one of which is relatively stable and the second of which shows an evident rise in temperature. The correct determination of the year in which that change occurred is crucial. Mean monthly temperatures in Europe and its direct surroundings were used for this purpose. The data originated from 210 meteorological stations and covered the period 1951-2020. The analysis was performed using the hierarchical clustering and k-means clustering methods. The research was conducted in two phases. The first phase involved the analysis of area-average values, followed by the analysis of each station separately. Clear results were obtained, which confirms the usefulness of machine learning as a tool for monitoring temperature change. The quantitative change in the behavior of monthly temperature recorded from 1950 all over Europe is positioned at 1999, when the linear rise started
Longitudinal spin polarization in a thermal model with dissipative corrections
In this work, we address the problem of longitudinal spin polarization of the hyperons produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We combine a relativistic kinetic-theory framework that includes spin degrees of freedom treated in a classical way with the freeze-out parametrization used in previous investigations. The use of the kinetic theory allows us to incorporate dissipative corrections (due to the thermal shear and gradients of thermal vorticity) into the Pauli-Lubanski vector that determines spin polarization and can be directly compared with the experimental data. As in earlier similar studies, it turns out that a successful description of data can only be achieved with additional assumptions—in our case, they involve the use of projected thermal vorticity and a suitably adjusted time for spin relaxation . From our analysis, we find that 5 fm/c, which is comparable with other estimates
Work-life interface : mapping key topics in scoping review
Purpose: To examine the research interest in specific WORK-LIFE constructs in the literature through the number of publications on the topic, as well as to determine their relationships with other topics through the frequency of keywords. Design/methodology/approach: A scoping review of publications on five work-life constructs from 1999 to 2024, and identification of their links to other topics through keyword frequencies using VOSviewer. Findings: The most widely described construct is the work -life balance, while the others constitute only a small percentage of it. The analysis of the most frequently occurring keywords indicates that all constructs have one common area (occurring in all 5 constructs) and it is work-life balance. Other common areas with lower frequency of occurrence are burnout, human, job satisfaction, female and wellbeing. Research limitations/implications: In practice, it is difficult to distinguish between the concepts. Despite the conceptual differences, there is a lack of efforts in the literature to confirm these differences. Originality/value: This article brings together for the first time all the terms related to the work-life interface. The work-life interface goes beyond the traditional understanding of balance, focusing on the dynamic interaction of both spheres depending on the preceding term, which can be conflict, balance, integration, harmony, or enrichment
Measurement of the mass-changing, charge-changing, and production cross sections of C, B and B nuclei in C+p interactions at 13.5 GeV/c per nucleon
A good knowledge of nuclear fragmentation cross sections is important to interpret the fluxes of secondary cosmic rays from the Galaxy. Here we report new measurements of nuclear fragmentation with the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN SPS. The specific focus is on cross sections important for the production of boron in the Galaxy from the interactions of C nuclei with hydrogen in the interstellar medium, including the contribution from the decay of the short-lived C fragments. The data were taken with the secondary C beam at beam momentum of 13.5 GeV/c per nucleon and two fixed targets, polyethylene (CH) and graphite (C), from which we derive the cross sections of carbon on hydrogen. We present the measurement of the fragmentation cross sections of C, B, and B as well as the mass- and charge-changing cross sections
Shifting origins, over time oblivion : perspectives and reflections on "Minor" ktistai
Starting from various poleis’ foundation traditions, the paper aims at investigating some figures, somehow linked to κτίσις but seemingly having a "minor" role, either in contrast to the "official" κτίσται or due to their protagonist positions in lesser-known versions. Emphasizing the sociopolitical function of the κτίσις accounts, a series of examples from Asia Minor will serve as main points to attempt to show how, instead, they must have played a significant role in the contexts that developed the traditions of which they are protagonists
Comparative transcriptome and microRNA profiles of equine mesenchymal stem cells, fibroblasts, and their extracellular vesicles
Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a promising tool in regenerative medicine due to their ability to secrete paracrine factors that modulate tissue repair. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by MSCs contain bioactive molecules (e.g., mRNAs, miRNAs, proteins) and play a key role in intercellular communication. Methods: This study compared the transcriptomic profiles (mRNA and miRNA) of equine MSCs derived from adipose tissue (AT-MSCs), bone marrow (BM-MSCs), and ovarian fibroblasts (as a differentiated control). Additionally, miRNAs present in EVs secreted by these cells were characterized using next-generation sequencing. Results: All cell types met ISCT criteria for MSCs, including CD90 expression, lack of MHC II, trilineage differentiation, and adherence. EVs were isolated using ultracentrifugation and validated with nanoparticle tracking analysis and flow cytometry (CD63, CD81). Differential expression analysis revealed distinct mRNA and miRNA profiles across cell types and their secreted EVs, correlating with tissue origin. BM-MSCs showed unique regulation of genes linked to early development and osteogenesis. EVs contained diverse RNA species, including miRNA, mRNA, lncRNA, rRNA, and others. In total, 227 and 256 mature miRNAs were detected in BM-MSCs and AT-MSCs, respectively, including two novel miRNAs per MSC type. Fibroblasts expressed 209 mature miRNAs, including one novel miRNA also found in MSCs. Compared to fibroblasts, 60 and 92 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified in AT-MSCs and BM-MSCs, respectively. Conclusions: The results indicate that MSC tissue origin influences both transcriptomic profiles and EV miRNA content, which may help to interpret their therapeutic potential. Identifying key mRNAs and miRNAs could aid in future optimizing of MSC-based therapies in horses
