Energy prices in the context of the European Green Deal and their impact on the number of small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland
The changes introduced under the European Green Deal policy affect many areas of life. They also have significant consequences for the functioning of small and medium-sized enterprises. The authors put forward the thesis that one of the key categories of costs in the case of such firms, which significantly influences their decision to commence, continue or cease operations, is the cost of purchasing electricity and gas. Analysing data from the Central Statistical Office in Poland for the years 2015–2025 and constructing an econometric model on this basis, the authors found arguments that the cost of purchasing electricity (as opposed to the cost of purchasing gas) may probably indeed play the role attributed to it. However, the detected relationships are of a very complex nature and only the ML model, Random Forest, was able to identify them (linear and non-linear OLS regression models were not appropriate here). Although Random Forest is a predictive method and does not identify structural causality, the findings may be important for decision-makers assessing the scale of the challenges that small and medium-sized enterprises will have to face in the coming years. Moreover, the findings constitute a significant argument in favour of support instruments (e.g., contracts for difference, long-term PPAs for SMEs, support for energy efficiency and self-generation) for the aforementioned category of entities
The memory politics of communism in the discourse of the Hungarian right after 1989
The memory politics of Hungarian right-wing parties are deeply rooted in old theories and concepts, ones that have been built on myths and the real or alleged suffering of the Hungarian people. The portrayal of Hungarians as victims fighting for survival against foreign enemies and ideologies has been a key motif of such narratives. The belief that Hungarians have always been victims in their history seemingly exempts the nation from confronting their past and absolves them of any responsibility for the failures and traumas they have experienced. Diverging interpretations of the past have been skillfully exacerbated by the memory policy of Fidesz since 2010, but conflicts of this kind are more deeply rooted in Hungarian society. Prior to the illiberal turn, the case of the House of Terror Museum (2002) was a clear example of conflicting historical narratives in relation to representations of the Nazi and Communist regimes. Furthermore, the memory of the 1956 revolution has been appropriated by various political groupings. Fidesz has been a frontrunner in the Hungarian right-wing narrative, using the memory of the past to consolidate its present-day leadership of Hungary’s political scene

This study addresses the existing research gap concerning the lack of integrated data on the role of in situ soil components in the long-term fixation of under natural, protected, and non-agricultural conditions. The contamination of ecosystems by radioactive isotopes, particularly , represents a considerable environmental hazard. This investigation sought to identify cesium ion absorption sites in soils collected from Karkonosze National Park to improve understanding of cesium retention mechanisms. The research was conducted within the protected area to reduce anthropogenic impacts. A radiological assessment was performed on individual soil fractions. Gamma spectrometry and specific mineralogical analyses were employed to evaluate radionuclide concentrations and to determine the risk scale. The distribution ranges from 70.1 ± 3.9 Bq to 18.8 ± 1.1 kBq , with the highest concentrations in the southeast and is higher than the average value for Poland. The findings illustrate that cesium, primarily a residue from the Chernobyl disaster, exhibited an uneven distribution, with elevated concentrations in soils enriched with clay minerals. The results suggest that clay minerals identified through mineralogical analysis in the research area have a strong capacity to retain , highlighting their potential as natural sorbents in environmental decontamination processes. The level of natural radioactivity expressed as Adsorbed Dose Rate (ADR) (51-153 nGy ) is higher than recorded in Poland, attributable to the area's geological structure. These studies offer insight into cesium-soil interactions, supporting the development of more effective remediation strategies and highlighting soil's potential as a natural sorbent for decontamination
The use of sulfuric and oxalic acid mixtures to obtain AAO layers with different channel geometries
This study investigates the influence of electrolyte composition on the morphology and growth kinetics of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) layers. Special attention was given to the role of individual components in H₂C₂O₄–H₂SO₄ mixtures used during two-step anodization processes. Experiments were carried out using aqueous and water–ethanol solutions under low-temperature conditions, with applied voltages ranging from 25 to 35 V. The results reveal that the presence of H2SO4 significantly affects both the oxide growth rate and pore formation and reorganization. At higher potentials, H2SO4 promotes the development of AAO layers with larger pore diameters and higher porosity, which is attributed to enhanced oxide etching. Furthermore, its presence was found to facilitate pore reorganization, contributing to improved structural order. Finally, the potential application of H₂C₂O₄–H₂SO₄ mixtures for the fabrication of AAO layers with highly ordered branched channels has been demonstrated. The results indicate that fine-tuning the composition of acid mixtures represents a promising strategy for engineering the morphological features of porous alumina layers

Use of various 2D to 3D techniques for documenting and unveiling the information from European Medieval and Renaissance tombstones and Native American rock art
Tis paper examines and compares methods of digital recording and analysis of fragmentarily preserved reliefs from Gothic and Renaissance tombstones at the Cistercian abbey in Mogiła, a district within the city of Kraków, southern Poland. The aim is to provide accurate documentation and examination of these reliefs through the use of various high‐resolution digital photography and terrestrial laser scanning techniques, followed by analysis in dedicated software. Additionally, the paper compares the digital methods employed in Kraków‐Mogiła with other studies conducted by part of the team in southwestern Colorado, USA, focusing on the digitization of Native American rock art from different time periods, primarily Ancestral Pueblo and historic Ute petroglyphs. Although these two areas and cultural traditions are distinct, they share a common focus on carved and engraved stones and rock surfaces. Our studies provided an opportunity to explore and refine methods and techniques for more effective digital recording and visualization of various types of relief carvings found in stone monuments. The objective was to capture, enhance, and visualize even the faintest and least preserved details of steles, tombstones, and rock art that would otherwise be challenging or impossible to document using traditional methods alone. In addition to the digital analysis and visualizations, extensive historical research was conducted during the study in Kraków‐Mogiła. This comprehensive approach led to unexpected discoveries, such as the identification of the missing tombstone of one of the most notable individuals buried in the Mogiła abbey
